Only one nation in history has the technological know how to make it work, the economy to afford it and the militarism to actually do it.  While China's shitbox carriers can't even launch a knock-off MIG with a 50's era steam catapult, America uses electro goddamn magnets.

My dad is big into genealogy.  He has been chasing our roots for 40+ years now and has branched out in numerous ways. His idea of a vacation these days is going to visit other olds that he has traced down as family members in the southeastern states and visiting “old home places” (those that still exist) and cemeteries.

In lieu of putting all of this info together in an online program like Ancestry he has developed his own system and has dozens of 3-ring binders put together with all them cross-referenced. Eventually one day I will probably be tasked to get it all entered for future reference.

Anytime that I let them know that I am going someplace he always says, “You should go by and see your 18th cousin 4’times removed (whom I have never met nor heard of). They live in BFE Tennessee. It is not too far from XYZ”. Or “While you are close you should go by so and so cemetery. That is where ABC is buried”.

On my last trip to London he asked if I could go by such and such property to see what it looks like today since one of my ancestors owned that property back in the 1600s. I did manage to take a picture of a street sign featuring my surname in a prominent part of London. He was happy about that.

My dad does this too. He has visit churches in England to look through their records, had the mormons send genealogy records (apparently they have the best library for this stuff), The spend the summers up north and the winters in the south and he brings 2-3 bankers boxes of his genealogy stuff back and forth every year.

The funny thing about it is he now has gone back as far as he can go as he has got to where the records just list our family as Crofters (english farmers) with out much details.

He says he plans to write a book summarizing the History of the Ogilthorpe Family.

  3. Not email but Teams or any instant messaging, just sending "Hello".

If you have a fucking question ask it, don't say hello and wait for me to respond. If you can wait send me an email.

  4. Things are getting back to normal in SW Florida. Pine Island has power in some places now.

The death toll is being ridiculously understated. I have heard from a few people that the second hockey rink at Hertz arena is being used as a morgue as the hospitals can't process all the bodies. Another person has told me they were still recovering bodies in the mangrove earlier this week.

Neither are confirmed but to think only 52 people died in Lee county is crazy.

In all the yell leader videos I've seen on here, I've never once noticed an ASL interpreter in the background.  And now I am utterly fascinated by how even more bizarre the yell leaders hand gestures look when compared to the normalcy of ASL.  Although I did catch the white woman interpreter at the beginning couldn't help herself, she started doing that little backwards half-kick with her right leg on a few cheers.

I didn't really bother to listen to their standup routine which I assumed was mostly a lot wisecracks about Starkville and their academics with absolutely zero sense of irony.

What is the background/reason for the back kick? or is that just aggie being aggie?

I know marinas are rated for certain storm levels. But I bet people got screwed. Those floating piers floated over the pilings at some of them which is crazy

My boat insurance requires a hurricane plan. We have our boat in a hurricane rated building in downtown Naples. We are on the bottom level, I was worried it would float off its bunk. Luckily no boats at my marina were damaged. I don't think we will be on the water for a while as there is too much debris and shoaling
