I saw some polls in the fall with us as at 2 and Tech at 1.

We bring back almost all important pieces, except for Mia Scott, who was seemingly our only hitter that was good at hitting offspeed (our kryptonite under Singleton). New hitting coach and some exciting youngsters. Positional battles will include 3B to replace Scott as well as what happens with CF/LF. Everything else is pretty much locked down, assuming Martinez is back to form after her ACL injury. Pitching, after TK, should also be interesting.

  • We will downgrade at 3B with Scott gone, but the freshman duo of Lawson/Crabtree were elite recruits. I would expect a similar season to Mia's freshman year - good at the plate, average defensively.

  • I would assume an upgrade at 1B, defensively - loved Joley, but she had a rough time fielding her position. But we will miss her clutchness at the plate too. Hannah Wells will bring a lot of pop at the position.

  • Don't forget Texas was a revolving door of shitty DP options all season long. The options are way better this year - Wells can DP when she pitches, 1-2 candidates depending on how the OF rotation shakes out, whoever loses the 3B battle between Crabtree/Lawson. I swear to God, if I have to see Vic Hunter take another swing at DP in a close game, I am going to break my TV.

  • High hopes that EE can get the offspeed timing for our hitters going good again. He is an elite hitting coach.

  • TK is obviously the ace, but it is hard to overstate how much improved Cam was by the postseason. Think she slots in at #2 and Citlaly at #3, with Brenlee as the change of pace lefty we have all been dying for. Not sure how much Wells will pitch in her freshman year while she acclimates to high level hitting, while also playing 1B/DP. Here's hoping Citlaly has a bounce back season.

  • Our OF situation is very interesting - we basically have 4 true outfielders and Stewie for 3 positions. Maloney and Henry seem like they'll have their positions locked down as multiyear starters, but then you have Stewie, Sneed and Altmeyer for that last spot. Sneed's bat was so good in the fall.

  • Vivi was injured in fall ball 2024 - she's had over a year to recover, and there was a brief time heading into the postseason that Mike said she could play if they needed her, but he wasn't going to burn her medical redshirt.

One thing to note - our non-conf is not as difficult as year's past. This team doesn't really need to be thrown in the fire, but they also can't coast on their trophy and fancy new championship sticker on the OF wall (gonna love looking at that all season!) But Mike seemed to hint with his quote about being the hunted that the team's mindset is getting to OKC again and winning another title.

The season starts difficult - Nebraska and UW twice, but outside of that, maybe only Stanford/Arizona will be a challenge, but not sure OKST or Baylor will be much to write home about. Mike understands now how difficult SEC play is: at South Carolina, Ole Miss, aggy, at Bama, OU, at Georgia, at Kentucky, arkansas.

We took some lumps in SEC play last year, as we acclimated to not be able to play your least and still sweep, like we could in the Big 12.

The non-conf is good to get our freshman acclimated to this level of play, but also provide some challenges for our returners.

Not to be missed - Mike on Bordi’s eligibility

However, Texas coach Mike White said Tuesday, January 7, that Bordi still has a chance at eligibility this semester, depending on whether she qualifies for an NCAA's transfer exception. Bordi was originally ranked as the No. 1 pitcher in the country in the 2026 recruiting class after earning two Gatorade Player of the Year honors in her native New Jersey, but she reclassified to 2025 and enrolled early at Oklahoma. She did not play last season while drawing a redshirt.
She's kind of like an unknown at this point, but we plan on having her for sure next year in the program," White said. "This year, she'll more than likely redshirt (but) that's to be seen yet. We'll see what we're going to do there. But if she joins the team, great. If she's not able to play, that's fine, too!

I could see the DP position be revolving again this year. If Sneed is in the OF then Altmeyer is an option, Wells is an option, If jaycie plays good D at 3rd Lawson could be an option. Almost using it based on matchups and who is hot.

Yeah, but all of those DP options >>>>> Hunter and Quiroga

He kept cutting out in his truck at home depot (lol), but it sounded like to me like White had Stewie penciled in at 1B, relieving Atwood at catcher every now and again.

I think DP will be a mix of Wells/Stewie/Altmeyer/Lawson, depending on the lineup that day. Agreed, huge upgrade over what we've had in the past. VH still being on the team is bizarre to me, but maybe she just wants to be a longhorn.

So Stewie at 1B, occasionally catching (which means Wells will likely play 1B those days), meaning Sneed and Altmeyer are battling for the 3rd OF spot.

My money is on Sneed - she showed off some crazy power in the fall.

Laser arm too, from what I saw.

Stewie had a rocket arm too, so if we just get the same power and arm and move Stewie to 1B, I'm content.
