Maybe the point of the story (since some seem confused) is that the person who leveled the false accusation is an elected official. Maybe a minor official, but an elected representative nonetheless. You know, like when a policeman does something bad, and it’s worse because he’s a policeman? And maybe the point, too, is that everyone, including many in the national media as well as a number of national politicians, were only too happy to bulldoze the life of the falsely accused person, besmirching and smearing his reputation without even bothering to seriously consider whether the accusation was true. But you have to break some eggs to make an omelet, right?8 points

You're looking at this like a half-empty situation. Think of it this way: he saved us from having another marshmallow CenTex OL on the roster for four years.7 points

The gloves need to come off for the media. To keep applying their old templates to this administration is harming the country. Every time they treat a tweet or hateful remark as a sane policy statement, they legitimize unprecedented behavior. Further, focusing on these individual outrageous utterances ends up being a dissection of a tree instead of the forest. There is also the facile and intellectually cowardly practice of framing a story in how the common man may react. "This action may hurt Trump with hispanics..." I don't give a shit about your obsession with predicting election results. Cover the actual story. Have the editorial balls to call something what it is when you see it instead of bringing in lying Trump apologists to "balance" the true perception with outright lies and spin. Hitler didn't deserve a voice on a journalism panel. He was a malignant NAZI trading in hate and a racially pure wet dream. Sorry, 'Dolf, you're not welcome at the table to simply lie. The same with Trumpists. If you can find someone who is something more than a propagandist, bring him/her on. Writing this, I recognize that it's not actually the job of journalists to move the populace to action. They are to serve by reporting. I doubt the foul, amoral element of the electorate will be moved to change their disposition, but that doesn't release journalists from their charge. The GOP stands in opposition to the world. The international aspect popped up in the climate thread. Their dissembling opposition to recognizing the science of the warming threat reflects their overall narrow interest in serving moneyed interests whose own narrow interests seem to be short term gain. This post becomes a manifesto. I've been drinking on a Saturday. I prefer the recruiting board, but I come over here and see that the river of vomit continues to flow from the White House. The malignancy must be attacked. Impeach this fucker. E'erbody stand up and state their position. Let time and the people sort it out over time. Maybe we don't bring the cocksucker down, but let's make our mover nevertheless. I wish I were younger. I think I would take to the main mall or a street corner. I feel like I'm watching a bully beat the fuck out of a girl without moving against him. Overlong posts aren't enough.5 points

The Cummings tweets should serve as a reminder to all of us that Obama was the most divisive president of all time. It’s awesome that Trump can bash any part of this country he wants but if anyone else does they should be catapulted back to the shithole they came from.4 points

Note: This is broken up into 2 parts because of tl;dr and standard surly ADD. Contrary to popular belief, LSU is not a great running team. They’re not even that good a running team. They were quite average in 2018 with 4.0 YPC (recall UGa was 6.1 YPC). Their yards per attempt ranked #91 in the country. Taking out sacks, they rushed for 4.6 YPC against the standard 3 cupcake schedule and none of their RBs came close to averaging 5 yds per carry (again both of UGa’s were at 6.5 YPC going into the Sugar Bowl). I suspect many people only saw the LSU-Georgia game and are extrapolating from that season best performance fueled by 4 UGa turnovers. The design of the offense is very conservative, even more so than Georgia. LSU tries to protect the ball, control field position and wear down the defense but doesn’t score much. 20 points or less was typical against better defenses unless they got multiple turnovers or big special teams plays. 60/40 is their run-pass ratio with very heavy tendency to run between the tackles. Their top returning back Edwards-Helaire averaged 4.5 YPC in 2018. They have some talented youngsters incoming but there’s no way to assess how much impact they might have in game 2 of their career. Quarterback As with UGa the play calling tends towards run, run, deep shot with WR screens and hitches thrown in occasionally. But LSU has a much less accurate passer than Fromm. Joe Burrow completed 57.8% of his passes for 7.7 YPA. The main things in his favor are that he’s tough so he’s less likely to get rattled and he’s a pretty good runner. 6.3 YPC (sacks removed) is pretty darn good and higher than Sam’s. As a runner LSU’s QB is equivalent to Baylor’s Charlie Brewer or ISU’s Brock Purdy. As a passer Burrow would be one of the worst quarterbacks in the Big XII. If you want to see a statistical comparison of Burrow and Sam Ehlinger I did one in January here: Burrow protects the ball pretty well with only 5 INTs to go with his 16 TD last season. Put him in a hole and under pressure and that’s when the mistakes happen so getting a lead and forcing them to play catch up is important.3 points

I don't think it's a congenital issue. IMHO Herman's philosophy in 2018 was strongly shaped by the 2017 season. Keep in mind that Sam's late turnovers cost Texas the USC, OSU and TT games in 2017. THAT is the context in which Herman kept his QBs on a tight leash when he got a big lead in 2018. Looking at his pre-UT history, Tom Herman wasn't afraid to let it rip either as tOSU's OC or the HC at UH. I suspect he was just so traumatized by the mess that Charlie left that he overreacted in 2018. To me it looks like another example of perception lagging behind reality since Sam had one of the best streaks of ball security I've ever seen last season. Hopefully we will see pre-2017 Tom Herman again next year with the data from this year and the waves of talent coming into the program.3 points

"Sources tell us that Roy's favorite position group coach of the three teams was aggy DT coach Elijah Robinson and if the choice was completely up to him, then Jimbo would have secured a top notch DT that no doubt would be the #1 DL in the state of Texas and a top 5 player on the Texags 44. We have also heard that the 7 OT win against LSU was a real eye opener for Roy that vaulted the aggy's into Roy's #1 choice. Pressure from family and friends was just to much for Roy to pass up on the hometown Tigers."3 points

"Making the top three for a ULab bluechip, and even briefly taking the lead in his recruitment after an amazing official visit in Aggieland, shows the frankly unprecedented inroads Jimbo Fisher is making in the SEC's toughest recruiting strongholds. Voices in Austin may say that coming in third doesn't mean much, but the results on the field will show the truth of his success - perhaps not next year, but without question in 2020 and beyond."3 points

Clearly you didn't bother to check before you posted that. No one is making that argument. I guess it's a lot easier to beat up a straw man than deal with reality. Texas was up 19-0 at the half and chose to play ball control. That is why KSU got a whole 4 possessions in the 2nd half. It's the way Tom Herman plays ball with a big lead. He did the same thing against ISU, KU and Baylor. As fans we don't like it; we want to see blowouts. But if the priority is to just win the game it makes sense to minimize the chance of a turnover that would let them back into it. Herman did the same thing against USC up 37-14 in the 3rd Q, against OU up 45-24 in the 3rd and pretty much the entire 2nd half against UGa in the Sugar Bowl. It's not just a tendency; it's his philosophy. In every case there were a lot more points available to the Texas offense. Herman chose to forego them to kill clock. I get that snarky but completely wrong takes are to be expected from fans of other programs that don't follow Texas. Just don't expect for that crap to fly if you post it here.3 points
