  1. We need a shot blocker. Like Ricky said, Beard’s best teams at Tech were the teams with a center that could switch and help. The refs fucking sucked on Sunday, but having Disu or someone bigger than Bishop there as an anchor on the drives would’ve helped immensely. If we are keeping Beard’s defensive schemes (which a ton of teams in CBB run anyway), having someone to funnel to would help a lot.

I was most worried about the next round and facing Sanogo and the giant white dude for UConn. You can’t teach hoss.

Nobody is celebrating, dumbass. We can go back and forth on DWI v. DV, but your mealworm brain apparently fails to understand the difference between the two incidents, so let me educate:

One was a misdemeanor DWI given to a 70 year old for failing to have his lights on and telling the officer he had drunk wine that evening. Said guy also publicly apologized and called it a "serious mistake" and served a suspension without complaint.

The other was a felony DV charge in post-#metoo 2023 against a guy with a known history of incidents that had previously publicly embarrassed the institution on multiple occasions with similar behavior. Said guy was also unrepentant and refused to accept any responsibility for the incident and using outside counsel to further drag the institution.

Still having trouble understanding the difference? Note the on-field performance is irrelevant in analyzing the contrast. You also seem to confuse following a sports team with upholding institutional standards. You obviously find caring about such things to be a waste of time, which says much more about you than it does about the rest of us.

I guess congratulations on putting your standards at the same level of people from a State that proudly and stubbornly rank #50 in nearly every meaningful statistic of life. Mississippi is a shithole place to live. Mississippians are backwater bigots that revel in that time they betrayed the country and long for the chance to do it again. Ole Miss basketball has 9 NCAA tournament appearances in 115 years as a .500 program, with ONE S16 as its highest achievement. Stepping stone or not, that is where Beard is getting hired while still one of the best in his field. If that's where a top flight coach desperate to get back in the game ends up, I would say the evidence is clear that Texas is not the only place that found his behavior unacceptable.

I'm all aboard the "Beard can fuck off" train (see my posts in the recruiting board) but I'm very interested in what these other incidents are.

  3. Been posting/lurking since 2014 and this is my first time getting this kind of reaction, I’m honored.

I did not like the Beard hire in the first place because he played an aesthetically awful brand of basketball at Tech and seemed like an asshole. Last year we were a preseason top 5 team and didn’t look that different than the regular middling dreck that Shaka put out. It was nice to win that tournament game and it was clear that Beard could scout defense well.

This year, if you recall, we lost to a middling Illinois in the same manner we lost a bunch of dumb games last year - going cold on offense, missing FTs, etc. Then he was gone. The Gonzaga game, in retrospect, seems fluky as hell (at least that it was a blowout) given that was the last time Hunter could hit the broad side of a barn. Was he building something? Maybe. But again, we were preseason top 5-10 in 2021-2022 and celebrated winning one tournament game. Yes the media is dumb and should’ve noticed there was a reason that all of our old transfers hadn’t left for the pros yet, but I feel like we didn’t tolerate that shit from Shaka and should’ve expected better.

Anyways, all I was saying was that I’m not convinced the record is particularly different with Beard vs. Terry this season. Whether Terry can build the program long term seems like a bigger question, and it does seem like Beard had that in a better direction.

If Beard was the one who identified Sir’Jabari Rice, then I take back all my underwhelmingness and am very whelmed.

Terry and Donewald were instrumental in building this team, and Terry wouldn't have gotten the title he got if he wasn't on the same page as Beard as far as team construction, training, and play style.

That makes sense considering Terry's reputation as a recruiter. I found Beard tremendously underwhelming and don't particularly think he does any better with this season's roster than Terry did. The long-term program building stuff is hard to square for Terry, assuredly, but maybe he's learned?

This writeup was from Manny Navarro.  I'm not following him or anything but the story was listed under the "More for you" section of my feed so guessing since I typically read most recruiting related stories it showed up for me.

He's their Miami beat writer I think. I only asked because the info from Ari Wasserman on his podcast was so bad (it was algorithm rec'd to me by Spotify) that I'm a bit weary of their stuff on recruiting.

The Athletic has a note today about the IMG Academy's Under Armour camp.  Apparently Jerrick Gibson's dad is recruiting for Texas and was urging Oklahoma native and 5-star defensive lineman David Stone to give Texas some strong consideration.

Who is their general recruiting writer that would have notes like that?

I played against the Jake Hammer group of 4 that never did shit and then Brian White. One of my girlfriends in college and business partners to this day had White in a class while we were in school and he asked her to study with him. He hit on her daily and I don’t blame him. She thought it was funny but he wasn’t exactly handsome or bright guy.

Also, at the same time, Kyle something or other was a short, white LB at Texas and I “studied” with his girlfriend in biology. She was no more impressed with his abilities on the football field than she was learning about Biology.

    Congrats on the sex!

  8. The national media's perception of the UT/A&M rivalry is so weird. I got algorithm recommended the Andy Staples pod and their reasons for why UT was "obsessed" with A&M was Geoff Ketchum's twitter feed, "friend of the show, Billy Liucci," and threads like this on message boards. One of the hosts also opined that Johntay Cook really liked A&M but ultimately chose Texas because A&M's offense was bad, and that maybe in the future, our rivalry game will decide "who gets Johntay Cook." I was in school from 2008-2012 and Texas Tech was a bigger deal! OU is the big rival!

I won't be listening to that again.
