Inside Texas dives into the latest from five-stars Ryan Wingo, Dominick McKinley, Terry Bussey, Tre Johnson, and more in the recruiting Humidor.
Ryan Wingo, WR, St. Louis (Mo.) St. Louis University
The On3 Industry Ranking five-star and Texas continue to connect multiple occasions per week. Steve Sarkisian and Chris Jackson are big in this recruitment and are making Wingo feel wanted and needed.
He’ll be in Austin for the Texas-Wyoming game on September 16th and will visit Tennessee on September 30th.
Wingo has said he’d prefer deciding in mid December, but too many indicators point at a decision in season.
Dominick McKinley, DL, Lafayette (La.) Acadiana
The On3 Industry Ranking five-star began his 2023 season last night.
The 6-foot-5, 300-pounder is set to announce on September 1st. He’ll chose between Texas, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M. Word coming out of Lafayette last night was that Texas and Texas A&M could have the best shot a week out from an announcement. McKinley really likes Larry Johnson at Ohio State, but the distance is a factor.
Texas continues to have productive conversations with the Pelican State product. McKinley and his family have spoken with Steve Sarkisian and Bo Davis multiple time this week, whether via phone call or texts.
Terry Bussey, ATH, Timpson (Texas)
While On3’s No. 2 athlete in the class of 2024 still recovers from his off-season knee surgery, he’s looking at a number of visits before his announcement on September 28th.
He’ll be at Oklahoma next weekend, then Tuscaloosa on September 9th for the Alabama-Texas game. That weekend looms large.
Bussey tells Inside Texas he could be visiting Austin for the Texas-Wyoming game on September 16th, or he could be at LSU.
The one school to watch is Texas A&M. He still hasn’t taken an official visit there, but we could see that happen in October.

The fact that they have to keep referencing "Wilson and company" and not like, Brian Kelly or the position coach, kind of gives away a big part of their weakness here, doesn't it?

A bit odd for Roach to say that thing about asking reporters for payment for interviews, isn't it?

Ooooh lets have this discussion again!

Miami’s defensive line is going to absolutely feast in week 2…I mean they suck too, I don't have my hopes up on that one.

I like that they compare Simmons and Myles Davis as equal gets.

I happened to see this little blurb on ESPN today and Jimbo said what he learned after going 5-7.
His answer was "I learned that we were 6 inches short. Our losses were one possession games and we had 1 play in each game that we missed by an inch and it costs us the game."
Holy. Fucking. Shit. This is how I know they are doomed to the wilderness for the next decade. Also.. that's what she said.
He's not wrong but this also applies to a lot of teams that go 5-7, such as 2021 Texas, and I don't think any of us would defend that year's team as anything other than dogshit.

Yeah being actual state media sure does help

Nahlin said when IT joined On3 that TexAgs was a "very well-run business" and thus would never join a network. Liucci knows how to get clicks.

There's some really incoherent shit in there.

I don't know how you could send your kid to go play for Hugh Freeze. There are a lot of scum bag coaches, but he's gotta be one of the worst
I mean, A&M has a DC that killed a player through negligence.

It will be interesting, because their collective is probably shit but like the McKernans or Maruccis or Hollingsworths or whoever have been the big donors for the bags before probably won't want to do a whole salary, year in, year out (baseball seems like an exception?)

Hospital funds . Seriously , they took hospital funds .
Lousiana is a broke ass state , and their fans have no idea what NIL is going to do to them
Louisiana the state may be broke, but there are plenty of rich individuals that'll boost sports. That's the case for most of the Southeast.
Also I'd be willing to bet that if they funneled hospital funds through a hospital for a guard, they've done worse for like, Ryan Perriloux. My high school basketball coach's Dad was his lawyer when he kept getting in legal trouble and Nathan Fisher wasn't cheap. Nathan would also bring Perriloux to our games for some reason. Dude was swagged out in some pretty nice clothes that I don't think he bought in Reserve.

lol really wasn't looking for the numbers or any specifics, was just wondering what the negotiations looked like mechanically in the current era with all parties operating above board. I don't care how much he made, I'm glad we closed the deal.

Jesus fucking christ man. I'm not going to neg you, but for like the dozenth time in the last week to various posters, let me be fucking clear to you and everyone else on the board:
NO ONE IS EVER GOING TO GIVE ANYONE HERE OR ELSEWHERE DETAILS ABOUT A PLAYER'S FUCKING DEALS. NO ONE IS EVER GOING TO GIVE DETAILS ABOUT JACK SHIT.
If you had a fucking A to B financial relationship with someone, like say a banker, and they fucking spilled the details of your financials and compensation for the world how the FUCK would you feel about it? How the fuck would the player and his family feel about that happening? How the fuck would that influence recruiting to Texas moving forward? How is this not COMPLETELY common sense to every single person on this board? Jesus fucking Christ, it's like I'm playing card's with my fucking sister's kids.
Stop asking. You don't have a right to know shit.Noted! Was merely asking for the hypothetical mechanics of such things, and not for any specific details here.

I am interested, given how insistent (and I do believe it to be true) we are on being legal and by the book, how we "sweetened" the offer the last few days. If this is verboten, then just neg me and I'll move on. I give $10 a month to the One Fund and Burnt Ends from out here in VA. Wish I could give more.

What a bitch.
Also - Spiegelman just updated his RPM to Texas.
"It's not about straight up recruiting" coming from an LSU guy is very funny to me. Jai Eugene called Lloyd Carr after flipping from Michigan to LSU in 2007 and told him that he wanted to go to Michigan but that LSU offered his family too much money to pass up. It was reported in the Advocate (Baton Rouge paper).

It means their vaunted "Market leading NIL Initiative" which awarded loyalty points for NIL donations is now dead in the fucking water. Wonderful.
Is it dead because of lack of money or potential legal troubles (or some more hilarious reason)
