  1. I broke my fifth metatarsal.   Shockingly excruciating.  Way worse than tearing my knee or ac joint in my shoulder or anything else that I can remember

Came here for this. I’ve broke, bruised, or sprained all sorts of toes and fingers. Had lower back bulging disks and spasms that caused.

5th metatarsal and crack in the growth plate of the cuboid, wins/loses the pain scale going away.
  2. Note: he says "stop the spread"
That's step one, it stops dying. Recovery will take a while.
The fungicide Azoxystrobin (sold as the consumer product Scotts Disease-EX and commercial product Heritage) does an excellent job of stopping the spread of TARR.
I'll see if I can find some more links on TARR. There are a couple of different replies from previous threads on this mess.
    probably time for a refresher

All this. Scott DiseaseEX stopped the spread of my multiple TARR spots. Lots of bagging mows when it looked like it was flaring up. Lots of curative dosage. Several preventative dosages on rest of lawn. Several peat moss applications in the worst affected areas.

Unfortunately, I think I finally got it under control when I went to strictly disease ex application over various other fungicides in late fall outside of growing season. Last of my open soil areas finally grew and closed up this May

If you see any lime green leaf areas with brown roots or stolons in other areas of your yard hit that shit quick.

I did a preventative diseaseex application earlier this spring and won’t use any sprayer propiconazole this summer unless the diseaseEx doesn’t keep the nonTARR fungus under control.

  3. Any advice on pickling okra? Pretty idiot proof, yes? I’ve canned other crap before, but my pickling experience is zero.

My uncle advised find a recipe online. Follow it. Ensure sterile jars. Increase mustard, fennel, and spice (pepper flakes, hot sauce, or jalapeños and habaneros themselves)if going for “Texas” flavor.

Also mentioned in his bachelor days he’d just add boiled vinegar and spice to old jars, and keep a rolling pickled okra mason jar in fridge all summer/fall. Don’t think that’s going to work for the wife and kids.

  4. Tl;dr, people have been tying hangman's nooses in shit from damn near time immemorial. Most of the time it has no racial significance whatsoever.

As a knot nerd I’ve got an interest in this. Was the “tied handle” even a slip knot? A bowline, an overhand knot, taut-line hitch, or actual noose?

I was not involved in, but briefly reviewed an HR incident at a chem plant where a deck operator left a bowline tied in paracord on the armrest of a chair that happened to belong to a black control room operator. Personal attorneys were called, yada yada just a dude fidgeting with cordage while his buddy was taking 5.

I’ve also seen similar instances in the news where a 13 turn noose is tied in 3/4 hemp rope and left at a residence or shoved into a personal locker or whatever. I would hope in 2020 we can openly discuss the difference before attorneys, HR, and press releases are issued, but apparently not.

  5. I’d posit it isn’t the current athletes’ song and former student athletes and current athletic staff and coaches have no more say than current and former students. It is The University’s song. Not just athletes. Not athletics. Not just Alumni. Not just current students.

Put the institution, The University, in the middle ring. Our Alma Mater.

I’m absolutely trying to put myself in the shoes of a current black student athlete, but you start with a false premise in saying TEOT belongs to them first or affects them more.

  6. Judge Baylor was a Conferderate judge when he retired (couldn't find if he owned slaves), Sam Houston owned slaves, Stephen F Austin owned slaves, Mirabeau Lamar owned slaves. There might be quite a few schools looking to change names in the state.

Don’t forget Sul Ross out in Alpine. Texas State system going to be down to 1 school.

  7. It's so wild.  He's plainly admitting that he's trying to hide the truth to save face.  It's the opposite of what a president should be doing.  It's bizarro world.

    #4D underwater satire!
  8. That Blake Shelton song where he says “chewing tobacco, chewing tobacco, chewing tobacco, spit”. Actually, you could probably post about a thousand bro country songs in this thread.

“Talking bout girls talking bout trucks.”

“Red red red red red red red redneck.”

Just pure Americana poetry indistinguishable from Samual Clemens.
  9. The only problem I have with this is that I don't hear anyone trying to have a constructive discussion.  Some people have decided that the song is racist and it needs to go.  So it will.  There won't be any real discussion about whether they're right.

    This.

Cedric Golden posted this last week.

It’s false information shared by the players.

Without any real discussion of the history and coming to terms with it some of our fan base will continue to sing The Eyes in an unofficial capacity and co-opt our school song into something it’s not, overtly racist lyrics.

Blow-up the cowboy pavilion next to the Exes building or better yet turn it into a history documenting their misdeeds. Put the information out there so former athletes, alum, and current students can have meaningful discussion.

I posted in the FB thread I hope The Eyes stay. I see it as a reminder and reaffirmation when I sing it that I belong to something greater than myself now. It’s just a song. My degree is just a piece of paper. The university is just a collection of buildings, staff, and students. Football is just a game. But together we’re better than the sum of our parts.

I hope there is real dialogue and change. We can’t hide our history, but we can share it and be better Texans and Longhorns in the future.

Edit:Tapa is being dumb when trying to embed the Golden tweet

  10. RIP Noid. Gone, but not forgotten.

On January 30, 1989, a man wielding a .357 magnum revolver stormed into a Domino’s in Atlanta, Georgia and took two employees hostage. For five hours, he engaged in a standoff with police, all the while ordering his hostages to make him pizzas. Before the police could negotiate with his demands ($100,000, a getaway car, and a copy of The Widow’s Son -- a novel about Freemasons), the two employees escaped. In the ensuing chaos, the captor fired two gunshots into the establishment’s ceiling, was forcefully apprehended, and received charges of kidnapping, aggravated assault, and theft by extortion.

The assailant, a 22-year-old named Kenneth Lamar Noid, was apparently upset about the chain’s new mascot. A police officer on the scene later revealed that Noid had “an ongoing feud in his mind with the owner of Domino’s Pizza about the Noid commercials,” and thought the advertisements had specifically made fun of him. A headline the following morning in the Boca Raton News sparked a talk show frenzy: “Domino’s Hostages Couldn’t Avoid the Noid This Time.”

  11. One of Trump's 2016 slogan was "Drain the Swamp".
For 2020, Biden and the Dem's slogan should be "Flush the Toilet". Time to flush the piece of shit Trump and all the pieces of shit Senators and Congress men and women who willingly or through cowardice enable him.

    Dump Deloss! Flush the John!

  12. “I’se gwine” is an exaggerated form of the term “I’m going” used to characterize the way blacks are perceived to have spoken by non-blacks.
This phrase was used in the dialogue spoken immediately before The Eyes was initially presented for the first time.

    ...by a guy in a A&M sweater...

You know that liberal and diverse school that was our rival and was fully integrated in 1903.
  13. Isn’t he weirdass Scientology or some shit?

Yes. Him and his siblings & half-siblings are Scientologist.
Didn't something similar to this happen with him like years ago?

Too lazy to look at charges, but the stuff a few years back were #metoo allegations from the early 00s, including the Mars Volta guys wife/gf. Assume these are finally formal charges by a few of the exes and victims.
