  1. Nah....just have to have the right aircrew(s). A few pics from some training a few years back with some Texas Forest Service guys out at Camp Swift.

  3. Both worth the watch...
  4. My dad loved watching him with the Cardinals and then after in the booth. Such a great character and storyteller. RIP Mr Baseball...😢 Where is his seat in heaven???
  5. Until the LA fires, I never knew we had so many firefighters on Surly....
  6. There's plenty of videos with them in use. For emptying a pool most likely one time only, It would do what is needed. I have a submersible (needs electrical though) and it's rated at 60 gpm, bought through Amazon and it has the capability to empty (has) my 17000 gallon pool pretty easily. To each their own.
  7. Turn around time is the key....12 seconds to fill 1600 gallons and an unlimited supply source less than 1, 2 miles away? With a water source that close those two planes are doing much more than people realize. Not to derail, but when I first saw the news the other day of them being used and with their quick turnaround time, it reminded me of documentary of the Marines fighting on Peleliu during WW2. Marine Corsair pilots had most likely the shortest flight bombing runs of the war. After ground troops took the runway, Marine pilots supporting the ground troops upon taking off from the runway, and dropping their bombs just off the departure end of the airfield where Japanese troops were embedded on the cliffs overlooking the airfield and mortaring Marines. Take off, drop bombs over departure end, turn back downwind, land, re-arm, and repeat. Have him look at these...won't break the bank and will do what is needed. Have him focus on the GPM, so with these at least a 2" discharge. Don't forget at least a 100' discharge line (and nozzle). https://www.harborfreight.com/search?q=water pump
  8. January 4th, 2006 was a pretty good birthday for me. Hoping the same for you tonight. 🤘
  9. WOW. Blown coverage / slip? and wide open!
  10. Lost of reports via google or other search engine.... Here's one for you. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2025/01/08/hollywood-hills-sunset-fire-california/77560918007/
  11. They can draft or tandem draft, but like @wood said earlier, those engines may have been depleted of their hose lines. Drafting (suctioning) requires hard suction hoses (so they don't collapse under the pressure of the suction) and can be manpower intensive and going up hills, requires quite a bit of large diameter hoselines (usually 3" or greater) This was a conflagration that overloaded personnel and resources. Eventually you have to protect lives and and try to limit damage. Set up a perimeter and try to protect exposures. 100mph Santa Ana winds plus the fire creating it's own firestorm and this is the result. Loss of a whole community. If you live in or near ATX, this is similar to what happened with Steiner Ranch (much smaller scale) on Labor Day in 2011.
  12. Air space around wildfire operations become restricted air space. Must get permission from the Air Boss (lead aircraft/ see above) to enter the airspace.
  13. Yep. Most likely Canadian birds and crews as the superscoopers are a Bombadier and DeHavilland product built in BC and Alberta. The USFS is supposed to have some but these are most likely the two that LA County Fire has on seasonal lease during wildfire season. As the call sign dictates, this is the Air Boss aircraft that directs the tankers for air drops.
  14. Someone here is claiming to have been her girl toy out on the road. Still waiting for pics/Love's Truck Stop food receipts for confirmation.
