My kids were playing in the front of our Galveston house and I look out at them and see four cop vehicles in front of my house. No one is down here hardly at all, so I’m like “WTF is going on?”.
I go outside and the cops, keeping their distance, are talking to the kids and then see me and the first one up says “Sir, we’re going to have to ask you and your family to pack up and vacate the premises within the next 30 minutes. We’re here to ensure that you do that.”
”First, I’m going to need you to step off my property. “
”Sir”.
“Step off of my driveway right fucking now, please.”
Cops back up into the street.
“Now what is going on?”
”An ordinance was passed last night that requires all short term renters to leave the city and county immediately.”
(I’m infuriated) “Well, that’s not happening. I own this property outright and have for years.”
”Sir, calm down.”
”You’ve shown up to my house to threaten to forcibly remove me in front of my little kids. Don’t tell me to calm down.”
”The city marshal sent us out here, we’re just doing our jobs. “
”Well and good but you’ve got bad information. We live here.”
”How often do you live here?”
”That is none of your business and a further invasion of my privacy. The hell with it, here is my drivers license. Why don’t y’all call this in and get this shit straight.”
They then do that and apologize profusely and leave. They acted like I had a rattlesnake when I walked towards them to hand them my license.
Apparently, a busybody Karen down the street who lives here permanently decided that we were renters and needed to be tattled on. We’ve filed complaints regarding this bullshit to the POA and sent an email directly to the marshal himself asking for an explanation of what fucking evidence he thought he had to do something like that and literally said in the email, “pandemic or not, this isn’t nazi Germany and we have rights as private citizens. “ Fucking bullshit.
Meanwhile, hotels and RV parks remained fucking open until enough complaints went in last night and now they’re closing all of those.
I also saw a fucking story from KHOU today showing people how they can anonymously rat on businesses for being open that they think shouldn’t be. If this is where we’re headed, people won’t tolerate it en masse more sooner than later and we’ll throw the whole premise of sheltering in place out the window and take our fucking chances. I’d rather die heaving on a hospital floor than live under a police state where the next door neighbor can have you thrown in jail on a whim.
Sorry for the rant.
There are two Karens in this story.

So I'm in a province in Canada that has about 1.1m people, and we're up to 134 confirmed cases. Nineteen of those cases can be traced to a single snowmobile rally that took place March 14th, and another 11 are doctors who picked it up at an out of province curling bonspiel March 11th to 14th.
Not sure if any of the remaining cases are community transmission from these 30, but crazy how an event or two can kickstart things for a whole jurisdiction.

Nope, not for us, we had to go through a source in the Dubai who uses the 3M plant in Austria. But this is not atypical as the usual supply chains are completely broken down. But NW and BSW both ordered more than a million total masks for a few million dollars.
I read an article yesterday saying that the US was going to need more than a billion (with a B) masks over the next few months...

Canada update on the economic side: This looks... less than optimal.

Welp, Los Angeles County superior court system (the nation's largest) is set to re-open its doors this coming Friday after being shuttered since yesterday.
It's going to be an absolute shit-show and I'll be there in the middle of it. Glad I've been quarantining with my family this whole time.
Here in Canada, despite schools being closed etc court has been running essentially as usual up until now. While most people are working from home, while we're still working in courtrooms that are shoulder to shoulder in some cases. And courts do not tend to bring in healthy people in the first place.
They finally made some changes at the end of the day today, but probably too late to prevent some our staff from getting infected imo.

Yeah, there's some good stuff.
But goddamn, this is going to be hard on people. And we're dealing with the day-by-day fluctuations in my daughter's situation at college in Canada -- stay? Come home (if so, how)? How to pack up her dorm room and store her stuff till next year, if that's necessary? I know it's a lot of stress on her, and it's all damned well a stress on me.
I've wanted to break down quite a few times, but I really can't yet. Gotta keep things going, and then may have to get things settled. And I know so many others are having these problems in worse. My heart breaks for humanity. I'm sad for my daughter. I'm sad for everyone who is going to take a financial hit because of this. It's just so much. Fuck. I'll break at some point. It's just a question of when and how.
@Brisketexan I'm in Canada (kinda the middle part, but I know people everywhere). Anything I can do? I don't think it would be trouble to find someone to help get her stuff stored if needed.

Anyone know what the deal is with RRS tickets this year? I can't find any mention of single game tickets being for sale. Just booked my trip in from Canada for that weekend and want to line up game tickets.

Not a service or a star, but fwiw Bobby Burton I clearly remember touring Mahones as an elite NFL qb while he was still at tech. He was then only guy I remember going out on that limb, and doing it loudly.
Nahlin was talking him up as an NFL prospect while he was at Tech as well.
-
That's high-end NFL ability, if he can keep his head on straight.
-
Can't think of a better place to put this- When do RRS tickets go on sale through the university? Gonna make the trip down again from Canada for this year's game.

The fact that we are not even 12 months from the last recruiting window and seeing this high attrition rate is alarming. I predict a future article about the correlation to this and the large amount of out of state recruiting. But if you look at our depth chart only linebacker is even concerning at all to me. Pretty much every other position is healthier than we have seen since 2009.
But 2020 cannot be like this or we will start to see the effects.
WR also gets dicey fast if an expected contributor leaves.

He can train for a fast 40. He's probably a 4.55ish type that can get down to 4.47 or so for the combine.
Yeah, no.

Also, I don’t subscribe to the groupthink on Ash being a terrible hire. If Herman hadn’t worked with him and we ignored his head coaching stint, like we would Muschamp, we’d probably celebrate his arrival. He was at fucking Rutgers for fucks sake.
Yeah, the over-the-top hate for Ash is bizarre. He may or not work out but he's a pretty solid hire for the current situation. For those who are shitting all over him, who specifically should Herman have hired instead?

he’s a size mismatch against any team. it’s stupid not to have him on the field as much as possible.
By that logic, let's put Jared Wiley out wide. It'd be stupid not to have him on the field as much as possible.

I had no idea that was the case until just this moment. Y’all think I’m kidding with this stuff but I’m not. It’s just not something I really care to pay attention to.He goes by Swoops. Jarrod Heard. What's my man's first name? I-- done went blank on me.

Sterns needs 4 years of college development to be ready for the NFL. He could leave next year, but he's not getting drafted before the 4th round.
Sterns' issue at draft time is going to be speed, which isn't really going to change whether he leaves after next year or further down the road. No way he's a five-year player, so you play him this year if he can play.

Evans ran a 11.39 in the 100
That's surprisingly meh to me for an elite RB prospect even given his size/first meet/etc.

Scary stuff, hope he is going to be okay.- 3

Per the Fud Man, McCllelan is J Gray's cousin. Well, we know which side of the family is the athletic one.
It's probably a bad sign that I can"t tell which one you're referring to, but I assume this is a shot at Gray?

COVID savings from working from home?
in Daily Texan
Posted
Knock on wood, but financially speaking things are working out very well for us right now.
Saving:
$1500/mo daycare
$200/mo in going out for drinks/coffee
$200/mo in parking
$200/mo in gas (estimated)
$250/mo for yoga for the wife/kids
Plus cancelled travel in the summer/Fall worth a bunch- but I won't call that savings because we obviously wanted to go on the trips.
Meanwhile our incomes are safe, our mortgage rate has fallen to 1.45%, and the government (Canada) is talking about backing $12k lines of credit at zero interest over several years as a form of stimulus.
