Frio River now flooding. My daughter's camp was awoken at 0200 for all the workers to meet at the ranch house for evac. preperation. The camp is owned by the HEB Foundation and they have their own sensors in the river at the headwaters, so these camps will be on high alert forever if a cloud forms overhead.

I stayed at that camp as a kid back in the early 90s. (On scholarship cause I was poor.) From my memory they took water safety very seriously (both flood safety and swimming normally).

Went to KG BBQ with my son last night.  We each got brisket rice bowls and a lamb chop.  Delicious.

EDIT - the lamb chop was the best piece of lamb I have ever eaten.

As was the beer at Oddwood.

    KG BBQ, imo.

KG's brisket bowl is legitimately one of the top 5 dishes in Austin at the moment. It's outstanding, and somehow even better as leftovers.

    Of Note:
As you've probably heard, today a slow-moving front (unusual for July) is teaming with Gulf moisture to form a slow-moving line of heavy rain from NW→SE. Right now northern Hill Country is getting hammered - some parts of San Saba/Lampasas Cos. have gotten over 6" of rain since midnight. This is all moving SE and unfortunately should affect the Kerr/Upper Guadalupe area later this morning/early afternoon. I don't think any floods will be huge/catastrophic (can it be anyway after last week? How much more is "catastrophic?"), but could cause evacs and issues.

ATX will also get a good amount of rain out of this it looks like - easily 2" upward and more in some spots until this passes through. Very possible that main streams/creeks (Shoal? Onion?) and low-lying areas could see some flash and/or minor flooding. Be alert today. NWS has had flood watches posted since early Sat. a.m. for this, now a series of flash flood warnings for upper Hill Country, will almost certainly be extended this way (unfortunately) if rain keeps up. It could lessen by the time it hits over ATX but with all the moisture in our ground/air I don't think so.

I haven't had time to look at the weather background, but this is a July reminiscent of 2007. The big summer highs have stayed away - it's possible the huge tropical situation we've had the last 2 weeks has and will impact our weather more this summer. The mid-upper air patterns aren't typical for us, but why/how long, if I look through it I might get a better idea. Like I said, although this front is "cool" (i.e. not changing temps much) it's still a front in July, so that's not usual. Two-week outlook calls for rain to stop and July to come back (hot dry) but that was supposed to happen now - and well, it's not at least this weekend, another "slight" rain forecast expanding to "heavy rain". But it happens.

    Meantime, heed warnings, watches.

I've had that same thought several times. But I don't remember flooding that summer, just constant rain.

Well, the election that propelled LBJ was between two Democrats.

Right. But the point Caro was making was that if LBJ got into the Senate (and the House before that), the voters of Texas would re-elect him no matter what. That's just what they do.

Hi. First time caller, also first time listener…

Can someone give me the background tea here on the divorce? I know Paxton is a corrupt piece of shit, but I haven’t followed him closely and hadn’t planned to unless he won the Senate primary.

And that's how we (as Texans) got into this mess in the first place. People like Paxton thrive due to low information voters who blindly pull the lever for the (R) candidate, even if they would blanche at what that candidate is/does/stands for if they actually took a little time to educate themselves.

But, it won't change. Go read the LBJ biographies by Robert Caro. This has been going on in Texas since reconstruction.

Do you think her lawyer was okay with her sending out that tweet, or do you think she even consulted with him before doing that?

I'm not a family lawyer, but with a law practice that is as personal and emotional as that, I imagine a lot of lawyers routinely tell their divorce clients upon engagement to refrain from any social media communications about the proceeding, even if the other spouse was a cheating, stealing, abusive shitbag.  I'll let @hornian and others weigh in.

I mean, I tell my clients not to post anything that they wouldn't want to be read into evidence in Court.

I think she's probably OK with that being in evidence. I would be too, based on the content I've seen. Although I groaned as a family law practitioner when I read the term "biblical grounds" because all that means is that she is signaling that she is pleadings for a fault-based ground (adultery) instead of no-fault grounds to curry favor with her base.

This strikes me as extremely fucked up in a multitude of ways. 4 hours later. Posting it on Facebook and pretending that's where people get their news.

Especially since Facebook's algorithm doesn't push "news" first - it pushes whatever it thinks will get the most engagement. A post about weather early in the morning? Nah, you probably want to see how Democrats are Satan.

@JohnnyM and our team dabbled in creating a title company. Maybe @Dbeasy too. But the only way we would do it would be to take the aforementioned above title lady and her team. I gotta think it's a relatively easy job outside of the actual lawyer behind it, but you're fighting for loans just like any other LO/realtor

I'm your huckleberry. Seriously, I want to get into the title company game, and I have lawyers to throw at it.

    Lunch date soon? You're buying.

I think Saunier might be trending towards the draft. Throwing well on The Cape and has an interesting pitch mix. Weiner seemed to unlock something in the second half of the season.

Any pick after round 10 can sign for up to $125k without counting towards the bonus pool MLB teams are allotted, so he could be in line for a six-figure signing bonus even as a late-round pick.

Six figure signing bonus ain't what it used to be. Not sure what NIL/House settlement payments has slated for him at Texas, but the real question is what's the delta between the signing bonus and NIL/House settlement payments.

Edit: And one more year of Texas co-ed cleat chasers versus minor league travel and lounge lizards.

Threw hard, but couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn and never really liked his awe-shucks demeanor. Sure, in a perfect world I would have liked to see him after about 2 more years of getting Weiner’d, but I’m willing to bet we have at least 3 more “college-ready” arms coming with the incoming Freshman class.

While we are at it, Easton Winfield was maybe the worst defensive outfielder I've ever seen at Texas.

Did you see Tommy Farmer personally cost us at least one game by dropping two balls that were in his glove when he ran into the fence?

I’ve never heard of that theory but I’m assuming it has something to do with wanting your 9 hole to be able to set the table for the top of the order?

In my daughter's 3rd-5th grade kickball team (which TOTALLY translates to D1 baseball), we try to have two 4-person hitting rotations (leadoff to cleanup), with the weakest links in-between.
