  1. For any golfers out there who are trying to lose weight, if you are not already doing it, start walking and carrying your bag.  My GPS golf watch shows that I walk between 5.5 and 6.1 miles during a round.  And there's the weight of the bag.  I'm not really trying to lose weight, but I dropped about 4 lbs. after four rounds of golf with no changes in my diet or my exercise routine.

This is my plan this year when I go out. I use to just walk the front 9 and ride the back but think I’m going to walk as much as possible this year.
  2. I've actually started drinking the lower end American lagers for this exact reason.
There are definitely times when I just don't feel like craft beer.  If we're going kayaking, or tailgating, or golfing, or some kind of activity where I'll be drinking throughout the day and don't want to spend a ton of money/get stinking drunk, I just go with regular beer.  There is so little difference between the "high end" American lagers (Bud/Bud Light, Coors/Coors Light, Miller, Mich Golden) and the cheap stuff (Natty, High Life, Busch Light) that I go for the cheap stuff.
The only exception is the super cheap beers made in Minnesota and Wisconsin.  There are a couple of breweries in Wisconsin, and one in Minnesota that specialize in making the cheapest possible beer on the market.  There are about 5-6 different brands, and it is absolute piss water.  It tastes like grape jelly and metal shavings.  Stuff like Kul (with an umlaut), Boxer, Mountain Creek, and Gluek.  That shit should never be drank by anyone ever.  Just fucking trash.

    Don’t forget Beer 30
  3. Anybody else find that after your endeavors into craft beer, especially with  regard to the extremes in Stouts or hoppy pinecone shit; that the day to day American lager just doesn't make a shit to you?
IDGAF if it's Miller High Life or Natty Light.  It doesn't make a huge move on the needle with regard to my enjoyment of said libation whether it is Bud, Miller, or Keystone.

For the most part, I’ll only drink craft beer but sometimes I just feel like a Miller Lite. If I want something that isn’t overly heavy and easy drinking and that’s my go to.

  4. Lifetime, Villa Sports, LA Fitness, etc. all have a variety of classes (and yoga is a good suggestion if you want to improve flexibility) that meet throughout the day, and would be able to accommodate your changing schedule.

If you don’t want to sign a contract at a gym, there are also yoga places (new one in Town Lake for instance) that will let you pay by the session.

You can also find a bunch of yoga videos for free on YouTube.
  5. Ok never posted in this thread so I'm sure this post will be a dumb one.  I want to get in better shape for my golf swing and just in general.  I'll be 50 in April this year, not wanting to bulk up but just maybe get more flexible.   I see a chiropractor and massage therapist regularly.  Everything near me (Cypress, Tx) area seems to be cross fit but none that works on my schedule since my work changes week to week.
If i go into work at 11, i dont want to do a 6am class.  And with days starting to get longer especially after time change in March there'll be nights i dont leave work until 930 or 10pm.
    Help?

  6. Weighed myself this morning out of curiosity. Down about 10 pounds in a month. Which is pretty good since I’ve only been paying closer attention to what I eat and started exercising for about a week. I can definitely feel it as well so there’s progress at least.

Obviously, I don’t expect to drop 10 pounds every month but as long as I continue to feel better, I’ll be happy.

  7. There is no magic.  My program last year was simple- burn more calories than I consume.  That starts with some basic food and lifestyle changes.  The biggest is portion control.  I have always been someone who will eat whatever is in front of me, and all of it.  I think it stems from being one of 5 kids and if you didn't eat fast and a lot, it was gone.  But you'd be surprised how you just don't need to eat the massive amounts you probably do, and I don't mean that disparagingly.  Portion sizes in this country have gotten ridiculous, and we have re-programmed ourselves as to what a full me amounts to.  It is WAY more than what was normal 20-30 years ago.  So start there.  And you can make tasty food without much sacrifice.  Choose the the lower fat/calorie salad dressings, mayos, cheeses, etc.  Eat a single protein- chicken breast, fish, and red meat is fine in smaller portions.  A couple of things I did to help aid my portion control is as soon as I felt I had an adequate amount, I immediately threw out what was ever left on my plate.  If I set it on the counter, I would invariably go back and pick at it.  Also I would go brush my teeth shortly after my meal.  Something about doing that puts a stop to wanting more.  And as state above, get moving.  But don't adopt some military-style boot-camp workout.  YOu won't maintain it.  Just adopt a workout that burns calories, even if it is just walking, and stick to it.  Anyway, this approach worked for me.  And I LOVE food.

This is fantastic advice in regards to portion control. I’ve struggled with it lately but a few years ago, I basically cut everything in half and dropped a ton of weight.
  8. you are forgetting there are 4 gimmies.  no reason they couldn't win 4 or 5 games if they are in the east. 8 to 9 for the last 2 teams is reasonable.

Those were good teams but playing in the AAC is a lot different than playing in SEC.
  9. Binged on Narcos over the holiday break. I’ll be done by tomorrow.
Should I go Narcos Mexico next or Inside the real narcos?
Also, what Chapo flick is the one to watch?
    Thanks!

I’m working on Narcos as well. Can’t believe it’s taken me this long to watch it.
  10. If I don’t give a rats about epl or soccer I’m general, would it still be s good thing to watch about fandom?  Don’t hate soccer, just probably wouldn’t understand much if they talk strategy or players or rivalries.

I think you would still enjoy it. They don’t break out into the strategy, at least through one episode.
  11. I binged Sunderland 'Til I Die over the past two days and really liked it. Most sports documentary series are on championship caliber teams or at least teams that are good. I've never seen one featuring a team during its worst season ever and found it thoroughly and utterly fascinating. I came out of it hoping Sunderland makes it back to the EPL at some point. Really good watch.

Through one episode and I’m intrigued by it. But as a Newcastle fan, let me just say fuck Sunderland.

  12. For all the Trumpkins on here, I have a suggested New Year's Resolution -- from here on out, you resolve to not vote for incompetent, immoral, corrupt, fat failed businessmen.

If they make that resolution, it will be like all other New Year’s Resolutions and last a couple weeks and then they’ll be back to their old selfs.
