I know you do. And, yes, the law can be complex, but this instance is not. The student organization provided the University a heads up of the proposed protest (which strictly speaking isn't necessary under University rules for open areas). The plan was to "occupy" the South Lawn. They passed out fliers telling folks to bring sandwiches and snacks. After occupying the lawn for the day they were going to march to the capitol. The University, and particularly Hartzell, freaked out about what was happening elsewhere (and I point out that a lot of the problems at other campuses were also administration caused) and gave a blanket no. Technically, under Texas law and University regulations, it had no authority to do that. More importantly, a blanket no to speech isn't a "reasonable, place, and manner" restriction since it amounts to an outright prohibition of the freedom to assemble. Hartzell, apparently understanding the student organization was moving forward despite his blanket no, decided the only course was to call in riot police to bust heads before the event even started. There was no violence, except by DPS. There were no threats, except by DPS. There was no destruction, except by DPS. And of the 50+ people arrested that day, including a cameraman for the news exercising a core civic right and service, all were later released and charges dropped. This was a naked trampling of the First Amendment. This was a naked abuse of authority. And Hartzell wasn't a mere observer or participant, but was rather the architect, as confirmed by his own letter and his own texts. Fuck him. Ultimately, he was afraid of a picnic. Maybe he invited the wolves to dinner not appreciating what would happen. But if that is the case, he is too incompetent and stupid to run the University anyway.

had lunch with a friend today who works on the admin side of things at UT. she confirmed that Hartzell knew ahead of time about it and told them no, then called the cops when they showed up anyway. she didn't go as far as offering an opinion when I suggested he needed to step down. I don't think she agrees with what happened, but I also think she is not in a position to make noise about it. which is in and of itself speech suppression.

We gotta figure out a way to move UT out of Texas.

we did - we built Austin around it

    in the clip above?

If so, no there was a fairly vigorous, not outlandish, debate between pro-palestine/pro-israel with a good bit of both sides and everything is fucked mixed in. (after the CB segment)

CB is either purely click motivated, literally insane, or doing a world class parody.

it's one of the first two. the third one doesn't exist

i enjoyed the part about whether certain acts were done by "the president" vs "the candidate seeking re-election".

did trump do one thing in 4 years that wasn't in aid of his re-election bid?

    lol, yeah, his covid response

IDK if the matrix will allow this level of irony. I mean, it’s so ridiculous that millions of people will instantly detach from their power cords and our AI overlords will be in for quite the energy crunch.

it's EXACTLY what they are arguing. I can't wait!

Wait, are you telling me that someone gave a 45min teleprompter speech in front of a crowd and at some point fucked up???   That is impossible!   So impossible that I am sure one of you "gotta trolls" will take up my challenge.  If anyone of you are willing to stand up at the next surly tailgate and give a completely perfect 45min teleprompted speech I will give you $500.   Any takers?

But since this is such a big fucking deal lets take a look at the competition....

based on what I have seen just getting some of the participants to stand for 45 minutes would warrant like $50.

Bigger issue for the Stars, imo, is how to generate offense when not on the rush against Vegas. Dallas’ net is fine. It’s just tough to score on Vegas when they are blocking shots and closing on the man with the puck so quickly. This is when you need forwards to win puck battles to begin cycling the puck, and try to move Vegas’ defense into poor positions.

we scored 4 times, 3 that counted. that's despite taking half the game off. minimize turnovers and be sound defensively, like we have all season, and we'll be fine offensively. what we can't do again is let vegas get a lead and turtle, because that is how they close out games.

I thought he should have stopped the 2nd shot from the arena although was a clear defensive fuck up that put him in that situation.  Never saw a replay so maybe not as bad as I thought live.  I never saw a replay of the 4th either but heard that point made by someone either post-game or yesterday on the ticket.  Otter also had some good saves after they let in 4 that kept us in the game.  I'm feeling a bounce back performance across the board for this team tonight.   Hopefully from the refs as well.

All of their goals were high skill plays that would have eluded any other goalie. I can maybe make an argument for the second goal, but it was so bang-bang I don't know how he could have reacted better. Bottom line, this loss was not otter's fault.

  10. I went back and looked at the 4 goals Otter let in:

    1. First goal was on the pp on a tip that no goalie would have stopped

    2. Second goal was terrible coverage from the defense and was a bang-bang play that again, was not otter's fault

    3. Again on the pp, point shot deflected by VGK and cleaned up by them, instead of our D. Again not anything otter could do

    4. Point shot again that Otter never saw.

I'm not about to excuse Otter's play completely, but the team in front of him was the letdown this game, not him. At least two of the shots he never saw and the other two were just atrocious defensive breakdowns. I think otter will be fine if the team plays better in front of him
