I've been eligible for 30+ years but have only been summoned 2 times... and have never had to show up. Both times the letters said to call ahead of time- at a very specific time the morning of (Houston / Ft. Bend) or the day before (Austin/Travis).
Both times they said I didn't need to show up.

Hopefully your son lives and you can just YOLO the rest of your days after that.

Reminds me of an incident in Lockhart back in 2016

You mean like The Cure? Oh wait....
My comment was not that the genre didn't already exist.

ISWYDT- I'm in the other thread too- and no, not at all like Modest Mouse... it was super soft emo garbage.

And so we are all clear, ALL of Gen X is completely fucked up. We just don't give a shit.

I think this is a largely overstated problem and some of you need to fucking chill out.
^ I suspect mostly this. Otherwise, I'm right in the middle of Gen X and at some point around 2008 when I hung around with the younger "Millennial" folk the thing that stood out to me the most was how all of their favorite music was whiny emo pussy bitchass garbage.
No idea what that was all about but it was definitely disturbing and a whole lot of wtf.

Thank you to folks who mentioned Tires. It isn't something I would've watched otherwise (and probably wouldn't have even heard of or recognized).
I ended up watching both seasons over 24 hours- really enjoyed it.

saw the well at central machine works on friday. they have a freakishly large outdoor stage. there were maybe 15 people who even cared that a band was playing. bad vibes all around in that place.
I've seen a lot of bands there over the years and they're typically very good with a good crowd. I've mostly stopped going while the beer garden has been shut down for remodeling (or whatever they're doing). The experience you described is drastically different from what I've experienced there over the last few years. Hopefully it gets back to normal after they reopen things.

I'm in the LCD Soundsystem video for Home. Filmed in and around Houston.
I just watched it to see if I could spot you- yep! That's awesome.

Ta Hua, holy shit that brings back some memories 😀.
I left Houston 20 years ago but still occasionally miss Mama's Cafe. Huevos Hofbrau on a hungover weekend morning was a fairly regular stop back in the day.

Fucking shit, one of these parks you dildos are arguing about has topless chicks and one does not.
Argument over.
I was at Barton Spring Pool on Sunday and can confirm there's still some good toplessness there.

I get the nostalgia for Zilker, but it's turning into a shithole that's always perpetually recovering from it's last big event (ACL, Trail of Lights) and or closed due to said events.
This is one of the most persistent falsehoods I hear mentioned. I've lived easy walking distance to the park for 20 years and this has never been the case.
Most of the time it is "closed" for events you can still use the park during the daytime / when the events aren't actually happening. Yes, there are a handful of days where most of it is off limits but it's nowhere near the amount of time people like to bitch about (like the quote above)... and if they ever attempted to use the park they'd know that.
I've had neighbors over the years who complain about this too and all it tells me is that they never use the park anyway, so even if it was true it's funny that they'd care.

Hah, yep, that was a glorious summer for greenbelt shenanigans.

I learned how to drive in Houston and then lived there for almost a decade after graduating from college.
Driving was a fucking beating, but like @Brisketexan said, you at least knew what you were getting into- and were used to it!
I moved to Austin 20 years ago and initially was annoyed as fuck and super frustrated by how the majority of drivers were just "Zombie Cars" with nowhere to be- it was a fucking beating. After a few weeks of it sinking in (2005ish) it occurred to me that "oh, I don't have to drive like an asshole here."
20 years later I'll still take driving in Houston over dealing with Zombie Austin drivers.
