Yeah, I’ve been vaxxed, and just made it three years without getting it. Lot of coughing sat and sun, although that’s subsided now. Nasal congestion now. Had a headache last night, and was really tired - both of which I wrote off as due to the coughing I’d been doing relating to cedar (I thought). Haven’t popped a fever that I can tell (MAYBE 98.8). Looking back, I’ve had symptoms and felt crappy for three days now, so hoping maybe I’m at rock bottom right now. Feel really stupid and guilty for going into the office, even if it was for just a half day, and I mostly kept to my office.

FWIW in case you've considered it, Paxlovid eliminated my symptoms in ~12 hours.

I’ve been more critical of this than I should have on this thread.  Yesterday we had a takeoff that required an engine run-up (for cold temps) and I timed it just for my curiosity.  It was nearly 60 seconds from getting clearance at a stand still to getting rolling for takeoff with making the turn at an appropriate taxi speed and accomplishing the required run-up.  I don’t know what the temp was that morning in Austin or if the run-up was required but you don’t go rushing into a low visibility takeoff. This is me eating a little crow about that.  50 seconds under those conditions isn’t unusual, but I still think you might let the controller know you won’t be expediting this one.  I think the investigation will show that the takeoff clearance was inappropriate

On the abort thing, above 80 knots we abort for exactly 4 things and a random unidentified voice on the radio isn’t one of them.  A high speed abort is filled with all kinds of risk. With low visibility, even more so.  Lots of things could’ve been done differently that day but I don’t see that as being one of them.

FWIW, RPM has shown himself to be an idiot across a wide variety of threads/topics. You shouldn't feel the need to placate him, but props for offering a concrete response.

Sniping anyone working a job that required a college degree that doesn’t have one.

Good call, and I'm confident in assuming that Derka would never come close to sniffing a regular job, much less doing any work. Motherfucker does nothing but mooch off of our taxes as far as I can tell. Fuck that fucking loser waste of space. What a piece of shit.

Coming up on 24 hours without power (78704), good times. The outage status has  been updated to "One or more crews have been assigned" but I suppose that can still mean sometime tomorrow before they get to it.

The power came back on ~45 minutes after the post above. It stayed on for a minute or two then out again... then came back on again 10 minutes later and has stayed on with a couple of blinks. I'm hoping it holds but at least have had some coffee now so if it goes out again it was a nice reprieve.

  5. Monday evening I took my first dose of Paxlovid and when I woke up Tuesday morning the fever, chills, and headache were gone and have not returned- all that remains is some lingering congestion. Fingers crossed things hold (and of course finishing out the Paxlovid in hopes of preventing the rebound experience some have reported).

  6. As of today I have Covid for the first time. I woke up with chills, fever, and congestion. A few hours later I did a home test and it was positive. I called my GP's office to see if there was anything to do beyond just ride it out and they gave me a Paxlovid prescription- just took the first dose.

I'm current on vaccinations so hopefully it stays mild. The only symptoms so far have been chills, congestion, and fever (topped out at 102 this morning but has gone down a little since then).

Not sure how I avoided it for so long. I've been out and about most days since Spring 2021- many festivals, travel, etc. and somehow had avoided it until now.

Watched White Noise and it's far too strange for me.  Best parts were in the trailer.

I loved it. I hadn't seen the trailer and didn't know what it was about beyond the 2-sentence summary so I don't know if that aspect affected my enjoyment (no expectations going in).

There's a whole lot going on and a lot of laughs. After getting into the swing of it I felt similarly as when watching Everything Everywhere All at Once- just roll with it and enjoy the ride w/out worrying about what's next or where it is going.

There's a lot of creativity and artistry to appreciate in this one.

    Spoiler

For example, I thought the Elvis lecture sequence was outstanding, especially when tying in the upcoming disaster.

It's a lot of fun, but I can see how it wouldn't be for everybody.
