  1. From 1998-2005 I worked for a company that had unlimited sick days. If you were sick you were expected to stay out of the office- don't come in and infect others. Work at home if you want or don't work at all... just stay the fuck away while you're sick.

I don't recall anyone ever abusing it and it was great not having sick people coming into the office and infecting others.

That dealership has always been crooked AF. Not at all surprised by this shit.

My one experience with them was super shady. I took my Tacoma there for a recall inspection that was required to be done by a dealership. Afterward they mentioned a few things that needed to be fixed (water pump had an "aggressive leak", hoses needed replacing, etc.) and of course they had a quote ready to go when they told me that.

I told them not to do it, that I'd have my regular shop check it out. Afterward I called up my regular shop and told them what Charles Maund had said and asked them if they'd take a look at it the next day. I also asked them what it would cost to do all of the work Maund said needed to be done, and their estimate was 35% less than Maund.

The next day they took a look and confirmed that none of the work needed to be done. In fact, none of it has yet been needed 4.5 years later.

I assume that Travis doesn't release vaxxed vs. unvaxxed? I'm still amazed that the same amount of people are dying as last year when we have the vaccines. And at least in this area there is solid coverage.

Pretty sure that all the ones dying are peeps who are still "doing their own research"... we're not losing anyone who matters- it's just the morons who are dying at this point.

Tapa talk sucks, how anyone ever used that shit is beyond me

Ages ago (2011-ish) I started using it when in low bandwidth / spotty cell coverage areas. It would load tons faster than the web UI on mobile. It was good for that scenario.

A friend of mine was in jail one time and this young Black kid was flipping out about the toilet, which was right in the middle of the tank and kind of raised up so everybody could see you.

Reminds me of a December 1992 night I spent in gen pop in a Harris County jail- luckily it ended up being for only 5-6 hours. Me and a buddy, both white boys who were barely 18, were guests for the night- arriving around 1:00a.m.

Once processed and thrown into the common area we sat down against a wall doing our best to stay unnoticed and out of the way. The room had 5 or so metal hexagonal "picnic" tables and a few pay phones along one of the walls. All in all there were maybe 100 or so occupants in the room.

I remember a hispanic guy using one of the phones yelling and shouting constantly to the point where all of the black peeps were yelling at him to shut the fuck up. He refused to shut up and continued yelling into the the phone- this led to the black inmates ripping him away from the phone, mid conversation, and bashing his head against a corner of one of the metal picnic tables long enough for him to pass out while bleeding heavily and collapsing on the floor. Some guards eventually showed up ~10 minutes later and dragged him out of the room.

It kinda looked like he was still breathing at that point, but I have no idea how that played out for him.

    Good times

  6. Finished Season 3 today- great season- very much enjoyed it.

Agreed that the constant smoking really stood out. At one point there was a scene with the journalist chick washing her hands in a bathroom and my first though was, "I'm surprised she isn't smoking a cigarette even while washing her hands".

The city is now announcing to all the crooks out there there might not even be a response... so go ahead and rob that house. To me, making that response time faster sounds like a better use of funds.

The crooks have known this for ages, this isn't a new practice by APD.

Also, the city didn't make the announcement- APD did and it was timed to manipulate you into voting for Prop A. Prop A passing will not change how APD responds to your calls.

but it's still concerning to hear from the city that we should no longer call 911 and instead call 311 and prepare to wait or leave a message.

None of this is a change in how they respond, the only difference is now they're just being honest about the fact that they're not really gonna do anything unless it is a real emergency (a robbery that already happened is not an emergency).

Your "concern" simply shows that you had no idea how things were already being handled.

I picked this up yesterday and am ~300 pages into it- very entertaining and well paced.

Forgot about TacoDeli.  Trust me, it isn't like I'm meeting with Goldman Sachs.  Everything suggested will suffice.

The T-22 patio over there there is big, covered, and has big fans that keep it plenty cool.
