In a little less than a month, a band calling itself The Velvet Sundown has amassed more than 550,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.

With two albums — “Floating On Echoes” and “Dust and Silence” — released in rapid succession in June, the group’s sudden rise has been as mystifying as their digital footprint is sparse.

The group’s bio is drenched in dreamlike metaphor, introducing its members as “vocalist and mellotron sorcerer Gabe Farrow,” guitarist Lennie West, bassist-synth alchemist Milo Rains and percussionist Orion “Rio” Del Mar. But no trace of these supposed musicians exists online — not even a modest trail of interviews, performances or social media activity.

That is, until an Instagram account surfacedon June 27, bearing images critics have called “eerily AI-generated.”

Rack of shitty green bananas at HEB. I want an edible banana sometime in the next couple-few days not one that goes from tough and starchy straight to rotten

This is an item of trivial concern for me as well. I usually snag my bananas elsewhere. I’d like enjoy them before 3 days from now.

i just don't understand how an inadvertent flap retraction occurs unless a bug in the electronics causes it in an automated way or unless the pilot is severely drunk. The controls in a 787-8 cockpit are pretty fucking clear.

They are also shaped like the things they control, but it happens

God only knows what we’ll be without Brian Wilson.

Sting did a nice tribute. Great song.

  6. Initial observations, it was a full length takeoff not an intersection take off. Most likely an inadvertent flap retraction instead of gear up. Also noted in another forum it was not an augmented crew and the FO only had 1100 hours but that’ll come out in the wash too. Obviously it’s all speculation at this point until the flight data can be extracted. Freaking wolf Blitzer was quick to jump on the Boeing whistleblower…🙄. Not sure why I bother with CNN in any capacity, but that’s the only news channel in my hotel this week.

  7. I graduated high school in Honduras and still have friends down there. The West End proper is still the best beach, but the town itself is pretty garbage. Avoid the rainy season in the fall and look up a boutique hotel, suggestion the Ibagari. By and large the higher end, standalone hotels have everything you need from a decent beach to diving, restaurants, etc. Bring 100% deet bug spray because the sand fleas are notorious.

  8. As far as looking for cars, take a look at Carfax. A lot of smaller dealers pay into the service, but don’t pay extra to list their cars on the other websites for sale and you’ll see a used car section in there. We found our Jeep Wrangler a couple years ago there from a small dealer up in DC. When I called him from out of state he was wondering how I found him since he doesn’t list his cars outside of his website.

Carmax is pretty much a no BS experience, and the prices aren't bad.  Might not be rock-bottom, but usually a good deal and they do at least the rudimentary stuff as far as making sure the car is in ok shape.  Tires, brakes, oil, cooling etc.

You can find cars for less $ than carmax but in my experience you’ll generally get a quality vehicle there based on the $$ they put into it for resale. And they usually have a default short term warranty included I think?

I sold my kid’s Passat to them a couple years ago and got 2 grand above what others were offering. The wheels were beat up (black wheels with bad road rash) and when it showed up on their website a few weeks later it had brand new wheels and tires.

  10. Just got back from matinee showing. I paid for the “screen x” version at Cinemark. Ended up being really distracting. Only certain scenes had the functionality and halfway through the movie the side projectors seemed to be booting up and throwing random symbols on the side wall. I walked out to the front lobby and got a refund and another drink and then came back in for the finale. Overall, just an ok movie. Like a lot of Mission impossible movies high on action and eye candy but the writing is horrible.

also, the ending gave me ship in a  bottle vibes from Star Trek TNG.
