  1. I was a nuke EM long ago ... Nuke school at Mare Island in 1972 and prototype at S5G in Idaho.  I got lucky and qualified for a commissioning program after finishing prototype, so my nuke experience ended there.  I do recall the attrition rate was rather high ... at least 40% didn't make it through the academics of Nuke School (learning math and physics there was like taking a drink from a fully charged fire hose).  Other reasons for attrition included getting busted for drug use or failing physical standards.

Speaking to present day nukes, the program does have mighty fine monetary incentives for retention.  Back in my day, the Navy offered at least $10k for reenlisting, and I'm sure the bonuses have gone up appreciably.  We only received one automatic promotion, E-3 to PO3 upon completion of A school.

There's a special Vietnam Veteran's Day, a separate day from the real Veteran's day?

Fucking baby boomers have ruined everything.

    You can blame Obama ...

On March 29, 2012, President Obama proclaimed March 29, 2012, as Vietnam Veterans Day. The proclamation called "upon all Americans to observe this day with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities that commemorate the 50 year anniversary of the Vietnam War."

    or Trump ...

On March 28, 2017, President Trump signed the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017. This act officially recognizes March 29 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day. The Act also includes the day among those days on which the US flag should especially be displayed.

BTW, I know a few of my fellow Vietnam Vets who would rather forget about their experience in SE Asia.

  3. Introduced to this brand by an Irish bar entrepreneur who has done well business-wise in FtWorth.  Before it was readily available in liquor stores, he'd bring back pints of it after trips home to visit family.  It's blended, and cheap ... but surprisingly smooth.

I was a student in 1975 and went to almost all of the baseball games.  If there were food trucks there, they were well hidden, or maybe I was just drunk and high.

I remember you ... passed you a fattie and you walked off with it.
