Agh, dammit. I don't want to see Traylor to Tech happen, but also really happy for him if it does. I am very curious how Traylor will recruit there. I think he could make a killing if he sets his territory to be West Texas/other Texas recruits passed over/ Arizona/ Utah and Oklahoma. It will be very very tough to build a power run offense in Lubbock.

We had a pretty good power run offense under the guy before Leach.

Dykes isn't going to Lubbock.  He's already tried his hand at a middling school in a P5 conference (Cal) and it didn't end well. He's a family man now and I know for a fact that his wife and kids are quite happy in Dallas (and that shit matters).  Lastly, SMU can afford to keep him around until a top tier P5 school comes calling, which is why I think he says put for now.

Traylor is the only name I've seen in this thread that makes any sense.  Maybe Cumbie (but I doubt it)

"Chris Beard will never leave Tech.  His family is very happy in Lubbock, and he has the 5th highest salary in the country already."

Leach proved its' possible to win at TTU.  Therefore, Traylor has a chance to make TTU the premier Texas program in the BIG XII with Texas and OU leaving. With the playoffs expanding he has a chance to build a comfy job that could get into the CFP from time to time.

Actually, multiple coaches before Leach also proved it was possible to win at Tech.

The issue is rather that Kliff, using his superior good looks, convinced everyone that it must be hard to win at Tech because he couldn't do it.

Neal Brown?  Is he married to some West Texas homecoming queen or something?  I can't see Tech going after someone without ties to Texas the state or Tech the school this time.

He was the OC at Tech under Tuberville, but our offense sucked when he was at Tech.  Besides that, he was the only guy Matt Wells could actually beat, outside of Kansas (who he even lost to once).

I think the only question is whether the first call is to Dykes or Traylor.  1 of those guys take that job.  People act like SMU is a "better job" but Dykes would almost certainly double his pay and SMU is getting further left behind with realignment.

Sonny Dykes is a also a Lubbock native that played baseball for Tech.

  6. Tech fans should know as well as any fanbase in the country that not every 5-2 is a good 5-2.  If you got suckered by this team, you're just fucking stupid.

(EDIT: They sorta had me going there at one point.)

Then in the HPSlugga scenario, the OU loss in 2008  for Tech was infinitely worse.  As for 2009, Texas, and Leach’s departure; a very small part of me wrapped in tinfoil wondered if UT big dicks orchestrated the whole ordeal.  Tech was infringing upon relevance…

On the field, I can’t remember a UT loss that particularly stung.  Tech is almost always the underdog, and for most of the series Texas has held serve.Last year’s sucked as bad as any, with the almost impossible comeback by the Horns.

In retrospect, it doesn't seem quite so bad, but at the time, the whipping Tech took in Austin in 1995 (48-7 UT) really hurt. That was my senior year at Tech, we had a really solid team with Zach Thomas playing his last year, we had beat UT in Lubbock the previous year with the biggest final margin ever for a Tech win over UT (33-9 Tech), we had a big over A&M earlier in the season, and the game was more or less a showdown for the SWC title. We got killed from the start of the game, never competitive. It was maybe the only big downer amongst a lot of other good memories that season.

That was also the game where our punter got killed by Tony Brackens, creating an evergreen UT highlight, so that's another reason why I hate that game.

7 losses in conference seems a bit high. Also ranking Tech in front of us is a bold move Cotton.

Someone needs to tell him that Surly has already determined that it's un-possible for Tech to ever be good at basketball again.

Is Tceh his ambition? Maybe coaching the program his dad coached is cool, but it seems he could go higher if he wants to. I'm not arguing, I just don't know if TT beats out a better program for him.

Sonny would take the Tech job in a heartbeat if offered.  He's Texas Tech through and through.

Fucking brutal but somewhat inevitable. Too much success isn’t good for the kids.

It doesn't help when 4 of your best players are out.

    Like Nebraska last fall?

I would like to see this examples of the Big 12 also rans bitching about the hand that feeds them.  I've provided a few examples of my Big 12 also ran being very publicly grateful towards OU and UT (especially).  Again, if it's Tech and Baylor I wouldn't see that.  But you keep alluding to it and haven't really shown me where they're doing it.

From my perspective, we've always been pretty aware of our place and pretty thankful that OU and UT stuck around.

No person representing Texas Tech in an official capacity has ever publicly bitched about UT prior to the SEC news, unless you want to cite Mike Leach complaining about the refs after a Tech-UT game in the mid '00s.

I agree, but I think the relationship and interaction is different.  Look at the Big 10 when Ohio State would not have enough games played during Covid to play in the Big 10 championship.   The conference changed the rules mid-season just to make sure Ohio State could play in that game and then could have a chance at playing in the BCS final 4.

If this had been the Big 12 and it was Texas or Oklahoma in that situation, all past actions indicate to me that the conference and the other teams in the conference would NOT support that change to benefit Texas, Oklahoma...and really the conference ($'s, prestige, etc).

Look at the SEC scheduling when they went to the SEC only schedule during Covid.  Everyone called them out for giving their best teams the easiest path.  Does anyone think the Big 12 and Bowlsby would have done that to favor Texas or OU?

So OU and UT are leaving because of an unprovable hypothetical?  Huh.  I thought it was for more money.
