I usually rely on that automatic "grounding" feature of my Mavic along with word from my neighbor who is a retired SWA pilot and professional drone operator giving me the 411 on what's GO/NO GO.

looks like I need to rethink those protocols.  I DO NOT want a sit down with the FAA.  Ever.

Yeah, I drone Youtuber I follow got caught several years back, FAA slapped them with a $10k fine, and threatened to seize the drone if he did not complete the commercial drone pilot license after paying the fine. (which is essentially a PPL).

Alrighty then!!! Drone has been mothballed.  Excellent heads-up.

I haven't flown my drone in probably 2 years, so things may have changed, but used to DJI didn't allow you to fly in a TFR unless you had gotten clearance. My guess is they disabled that in the ongoing fight between the DOJ/FAA and DJI.

I actually had used the FAA Drone app to bypass a TFR (getting permission to fly under 100 feet AGL). So I remember the old process pretty well. Been too busy the last few years to get the bird in the sky.

I've been flying the drone, so I hope I'm not out of compliance.  The deer was already being collected by animal control at ramp 7.  That's how I noticed it on my bike ride.

Tread lightly my friend, don't want the FAA slapping you with multiple thousand dollar fines.

The only TFR in the area is a 5 mile radius around Hunt.

See my post, that one extends to Canyon Lake till 7/13

I can see the merits, but when we have gone mod light in DT it has been overall bad. It's hard to do a full trial run.

That’s a fair point, but in defense of my point, you have an entire contingent of posters (and yes I understand I may be biased) that immediately refuse to engage and just respond to any point they don’t like with “take it to the CR”.

All the while giving potshots of their own opposing views, and of course, this may be bait, but it works, because they refuse to engage in an actual conversation in the correct place.

I get that it is hard to do a trail run. Might I suggest locking both forums and creating a new trial run all encompassing forum? You and I are just speculating one way or the other will or won’t work, but neither of us know for sure. My assumption is locking both and creating another gives you a somewhat reversible way to switch back if the thunderdome doesn’t work.

My hope is this allows yall to do less moderating outside a single cesspool, and also does not choke the golden goose that is recruiting. But I’m just suggesting ideas.

I understand the suggestion, I just don't think it'll work here. Thunderdome works some places, but I think this one it would just be about the loudest and most active people and it would actually kill threads. DT threads aren't supposed to be a bunch of people arguing and huge engagement. It's supposed to be current events, news, shit that happened that isn't for lulz that people can make fun of or keep people in the know as a sort of human led aggregator vs AI slop feeder.

There's a minority of posters that want to inject themselves and their opinions everywhere, that can't happen on a board like 9.95 or football because mods and cultural rules and how many other posters there are that will self police. In DT it's a smaller number of regular users that wouldn't be able to self police, and obviously can't, when things go off the rails mods have to be a lot heavier handed than the other way higher population and trafficked boards.

Fair enough. I disagree, but its your board.

The other option, is to have a news board that requires approval for posts. I think that is more effort than what I suggested for the mod team.

This is not true. I think some of you live in a weird internet bubble and read force fed news or are getting curated nonsense that is driving you to think everything is political.

Are things super fucked up right now? Moreso than 2001? Moreso than 2008? Moreso than 2020? Moreso than 2016?

Just because some of you are more interested in politics and let it have a deep impact in your personal life doesn't mean a bunch if people who come go this site for FOOTBALL RECRUITING NEWS, and maybe a little bit of a funny take on current events or a crowd sourced news thread that goes further and more diverse than any machine learning based solution would pump to you.

That's the magic here for 90%+ of posters. Then there are 10% of posters who legitimately cannot divorce themselves from politics in any facet of anything. Stay in the fucking cloak room, no one asked you to stop posting there. People repeatedly ask, and the rules have been the same since the inception of this community that politics stays off the rest of the board.

Not since the PC when I split the thread. I believe some posts that were overtly political got the axe from Blacklab and that was accompanied by a timeout.

What you don't get is that you have such a small sliver of the picture.

I moved to Fluid view last year (thanks for the rec) so I could remove from view the CR and DT and I only move into view when big things are happening and it has improved my mood and BP immensely. Ask my wife, I’m a much more pleasant person to be around. Are things more fucked up? Possibly. Are we more divided now because of the internet? Absofuckinglutely.

Your point about people coming here for recruiting news is valid. My point about you spending 99% of your time trying to avoid pissfights between left and right (DT and CR) could be solved by shelving everything into a single forum. I’m on lots of other forums that are similar in they exist for a single topic, but they keep anything news/politics to a single forum, and nothing bleeds. Fence the left and right in to a single playground. As it stands, you have divided the board left vs right into two separate boards.

I agree, that a lot spills out of DT. But at the same time, the folks that complain you handle the DT posters differently because they only post in DT can also be correct (and when I say you, I don’t only mean you, its all the mods). This could all be solved by merging the forums.

Contain the shit to a single forum. Nuke everything outside that forum.

Seems like it would be difficult to know how many RV campers & weekenders were in the area.

They might know the number of reservations, but not the head count for each one.

The few RV parks I have stayed in over the years always required a headcount at check in. And quite a few had you list names of everyone associated with the individual site. But I don’t have a huge amount of experience, and all of the parks we stayed at were either federally/state managed or on the higher end of private.

Man, that cell up on the north side of Lake Travis is just wild. Did basically the same thing as the storm that inundated the Guad/SanSaba. Just sat and spun all night.

Hope anyone up in that area is safe.

Does anyone know what’s going on in Liberty Hill? My Son in law is a fireman and has been doing water rescues and evacuations all night. I assume it’s something to do with the north branch of the San Gabriel?

They got 20 inches of rain overnight. The San Gabriel and pretty much every creek and low spot is inundated.
