That’s a fine take. Folks should remember it. We don’t want a bunch of noise around the NIL efforts. We’re doing it right, but that doesn’t change the sentiments of the masses from some bad take by a media member on twitter or wherever. We’d rather other programs take the bullets.

Couldn't agree more.  Since we weren't involved with Sayin and Downs, on some level I was glad to see them go to OSU, just for attention/noise purposes. Somewhat torn because I despise those bastards in Columbus and don't want them getting studs, but also like them being the focus of portal accolades.

Hard to stay under the radar when we've been so solid in portal/NIL, but would be nice to stay out of everyone's crosshairs, even though it'll be hard to do while stunting on them.

I know they were planning on doing a full renovation and plans weren’t approved until a few months ago. I saw in the paper they were aiming for spring. Also, the family opened an outpost in LA in 2022. No clue what the arrangement is there, but presumably it’s helping keeping them afloat.

It was quite a few years ago when I think we went to it, but didn't Willie Mae's have an Uptown location too?  Assume it's not still there.

He was a good DC 20 years ago.

Not sure if he has CTE or something, but from reading his deposition transcript in the Wickline lawsuit I think he's on the regard level at this point

    Q. Who are your current quarterback on your -- on your team right now?
    A. Swoops.

    Q. What's his -- what's his first name?
    A. He goes by Swoops. Jarrod Heard. What's my man's first name? I -- done went blank on me.

    Q. That happens to me. I call them senior moments. We're getting up there.
    A. I know it.

    ***

    Q. Mr. Strong, where do you reside?
    A. Austin, Texas.

    Q. Do you have a street address?
A.(Address deleted from the record by agreement)

    Q. That's here in Austin?
    A.Yes.

    Q. And what's the zip code?
    A.You got me.

    Q. Do you know the zip code?
    A. No, I don't.

    Q. Okay. Arkansas game, ran 43 plays. How many of those did -- were -- was Joe Wickline responsible for?
    A. Bad day.

    Q. Not much offensive production that day.
    A. 43 plays. Not much at all.

    Q. A lot of offensive -- I mean, a lot of running plays that game, weren't there?
    A. I don't know.

    Q. So did Joe call most of the plays on that day?
    A. I don't remember. It was an awful day. It's -- I don't want to remember that game we were so bad.

    Q. Between your two guys calling offensive plays that day, who called more of them, Joe or Shawn?
    A. I don't know that.

    Q. Now, I assume when you -- you got the job offer at the University of Texas you were quite flattered. Is that accurate?
    A. Me being flattered?

    Q. Yes.
    A. I wouldn't say I was flattered.

    Q. Well, you would agree with me, wouldn't you, that the University of Texas is probably regarded as a top-ten collegiate coaching destination, wouldn't you?
    A. I mean, but -- what -- I feel like I'm qualified to be -- I mean, that's why I say I'm not flattered.

    Q. Well -- and -- and -- and I didn't -- I didn't mean that derogatory. In fact, I meant it to be -- I meant to praise you.
    A. Oh, okay. I'm sorry.

    Assuming this is real...good grief.

  4. In part because I'm a bit superstitious, we're retracing our 2019 Sugar Bowl steps (which worked out pretty damn well) and having a big lunch at Peche on New Year's Day...can't wait.  There were tons on Texas fans eating/drinking there in 2019 and it was fun as hell.  As you may recall, that was a prelude to mudholing UGA...yes, mudholing, since the score was not indicative of our dominance.

Planning to hit Casamento's, Saba and maybe Turkey & the Wolf at some point.  Looks like Toups Meatery or Costera (anyone been there?) on NYE.  Also, will have to get at least one drink at Bouligny Tavern (one of my favorite bars in the city) on NYE, since that was a key stop in 2019 as well.

I still can't believe this all fell into place so perfectly, because I was starting to truly believe we just can't have nice things.  FAAFO!

  5. Okay, went to Ezov on Fri and both food & service were very good.  We went pretty early and it wasn't packed when we ordered, so that might've helped.  Would definitely go back.

I just don't think that's true. At least not for most posters even if they are critical and skeptical of the guy. I've spent a little time with him, so I may be biased, but I think he's a bright and sincere guy who has a prayer of getting it done. It doesn't keep me from being critical or trolling the board about him, but I'd far rather experience conference titles and playoff runs than the hollowness of "well, called that one" as he packs his shit and Texas hires the next Charlie Strong.

I assume that same feeling is genuinely held by anyone else who is old enough to remember things with late Mack/Strong/Herman/2021.

    This.

Now take the lame-ass Sark discussion elsewhere.

  7. Yep, getting into the stadium was significantly worse this year.  It was mayhem...not nearly enough scanners, people climbing walls, etc.  They gotta fix this somehow.

Getting into the fair was another story.  Usually it takes a while too, but this year they were just waving everyone in and there was zero checking of tickets where we entered.  One nice part was no policing of drinks either, so waltzed right in with a cocktail.

As for post-game at the fair, one good addition (or, I'd just never noticed before) was the unmanned coupon kiosks.  Heard some say they weren't all working right, but I had no trouble and it damn sure beat waiting in the normal coupon hut lines.

Once about a month after it opened.  Food was really good, and overall more interesting than comparable places I have been in Austin (e.g. Peacock).  It was loud.  Really long dinner . . . as in I had to ask the waiter whether they had forgotten to put in several of the dishes and noticed nearby table having the same issue.

Sounds good and hopefully they have service tightened up some by now.  Thanks for the info and planning to try it soon.
