Going to look at tires and lifts tomorrow. That will definitely make me feel better. These dinky tires don’t look right on it even though the BD has a pretty aggressive tire on it.

    Why not spec with Sasquatch?

Buddy owns a tire shop, so I can get what I want through him. Plus, when I ordered it 18 months ago, I was ordering it to leave at the house at the beach to use when we were down there. I wanted cheap (relatively speaking) with a spray out interior for sand and whatever else we got into with very limited options. I was going to leave it as it came. We sold the house right before the hurricane and have not been able to close on a replacement because of the issues down there right now, so I’m just going to daily drive it for now until we see how things shake out. Plus, I still have no idea what I want as my main vehicle. After putting 200 miles on this one today, I don’t think it is my long-term option for a daily driver.

  3. Picked up the new Bronco and am now officially without a truck for the first time in 25 years. This along with not having a boat is a strange feeling. It’s a little bit of a shock dropping from a Platinum 250 to a spray out interior 2 door Black Diamond. Going to look at older diesels and see what I can find for a weekend hauler.

What do you mean by “no”? No inventory, or don’t buy them? And where are you?

Audi isn’t on my list bc my wife has a Q7. It’s fine but not what I want.

No inventory of any of those on lots which I would assume would be consistent in other areas but might not. A ways from you guys, TN.

  5. Opened a 2021 Coy Hill and a 2018 GTS I’ve had sitting. Not a fan of the Coy Hill, I’m not sure I care anything about having another pour of it. The GTS on the other hand was worth the couple hundred bucks I paid for it before things got stupid.

Ugh. I had a year-old new Bronco that just got totaled when an asshole with no license and no insurance blew through a red light and broadsided me on the passenger side (thank god). I am very lucky to have walked away fine, and even luckier my wife and kids (8-yo twins) weren’t in the car. I also would have flipped but for rolling into an F-150 waiting to take a left going the opposite direction on my street. Oh and this happened all of 5 blocks from my house.

So with all that being said, I think I’m in the market for a safe, luxury SUV. Not sure I need a full-size model as long as I have a tow hitch - we have a great trailer-mounted tray and bag that solved long trips with the smaller cargo space of my Bronco - so I’m looking at mid to large luxury SUVs that are above all safe. Performance is important-ish, I certainly don’t want to be driving a 4 cylinder, but I’m also not looking to break the bank to upgrade to souped up models of the below ideas I have.

What say you, Shaggy? What I’m currently contemplating is Tahoe/Yukon, Escalade, X5/X7, GLE/GLS, GV80, XC90, Range Rover Sport, Expedition, Navigator. I left off several I know, and that list is a bit all over the place, but curious what y’all think.

Also, if you are buying new, the RRS has an 8 month wait according to our dealer. Curious what on that list can actually be bought today. Around here the GM’s are a no, Expedition is a no, RR’s are a no, Escalade is a no, don’t know about the others. Audi’s are on lots, but not on your list.

    red bar is a must

Always preferred Louis Louis over Red Bar. Serve the same or similar menu without all the people. Great Southern was always good if you go into Seaside and the Donut Hole is the place to go for breakfast.

Ultimately, it’s July. Everything will be packed. Hit the beach, go eat off hours, and be prepared for a shit ton of people.

Wife has had several of them, Tahoe, then RRS, then Expedition, now Escalade, and probably going back to the RR it looks like. The new Escalade has been the best one of the bunch for a lot of driving. We put quite a few miles on vehicles and I don’t have any issues taking off in it for 1000 mile trip to the beach. The RR Sport was the most fun to drive. The Expedition was fine, but she never cared for it and it didn’t last long.

  9. Wife decided she wanted to go look at Range Rovers again, since it is about her normal trading timeframe. The dealership we have used in the past has an 18-24 month wait on the new ones with people putting down $5000 non refundable deposits. They have something like 300 vehicles on order between them, the RR Sport, and a few others. That is pretty damn nutty for a niche vehicle. You can drive off in a Defender but that was it.  Saved me the trouble of buying one, but there is no telling what she comes up with next.

  10. I’m always entertained by these conspiracies around sports, politics, the news, etc. In this look at me era we live in, I’m sure everyone is keeping it quiet these top down directives. That is a perfectly plausible explanation that seems totally legit.

I’m sure refs let things impact their calls, I’m sure the games have gotten too fast for most of them, I’m sure the availability of any angle replay has made their jobs impossible, but the leagues being rigged narrative is stupid. It’s also dumb as hell in game threads. Maybe it’s your bias that drives the narrative in your head.

  11. Got home tonight and noticed my pump making a lot of racket. Awesome, low 20’s tonight, steady freezing rain, and a pump that might be going out. Cleaned everything out, backwashed the filter, and set it to medium speed instead of variable and will hope it holds up. Also ran the heater for a while to get the water temp up just in case.

This winter has been brutal on my fairly new pool. During the epic freeze it popped the decking up around one side of the shallow end when water froze under the travertine. It settled to about a .5 inch or less difference in height at this point.

There is a long thread on the TV board about it. Most here hate it. I like it. You’re the first to have no awareness or no opinion. It’s a love or hate thing. Mostly hate here, duh.

Put me in his camp, I had no idea what it was either when I saw it in the picture. Now I have no idea why it would be on a boat. People and misplaced pop culture references in general are strange.

  13. No better days than blue bird days with no one else out. I prefer it to be a lot warmer at this point in my life before I go out though.

That is one hell of a dock in that picture. Most everything around us has to be floating, so the concept of it is way different than what you see in our area.

when people are uniformly angry and act out en masse against power, is it their fault?

my kid throws a tantrum at the store because they haven't eaten for 6 hours. is it their fault? some of it. some of it is mine. some of it is unfortunate timing.

but my child's distress is real and he's not just having fun at my expense.

sometimes, i think many of yall view race relations the same way. like black people are just having a go at white people. that they invent reasons to get angry and it doesn't have to do with generations of systemic oppression.

OF COURSE THEY ARE FUCKING PISSED.

I would say in this instance, they would be wrong to go any direction other than peaceful protests/marches. The department response has to play some part in the response that takes place.

If fedex and Elvis pulled out the whole city would collapse.

No it wouldn’t. There are a number of large corporate headquarters based in Memphis, commercial space availability is as low as it’s ever been, development is running wide open right now especially with the Ford deal, etc. Memphis has its issues especially with safety in the central district area, but it is night and day different than it was 15 years ago. I’m in and out of Memphis a lot and I would rather go to Memphis at this point than Nashville.

  16. The officers have all been fired, charges are pending and also filed already against a couple of them, the PD has been extremely open about how bad this looks and is going to look, etc. We’ll see what happens tonight and this weekend, but the PD, City, etc have done what they can to be open and lay everything out in the last week up through releasing the camera footage today

Haven't heard it yet, but was the Pam Anderson interview worth a shit?

No, there was nothing really compelling about the interview from the part I heard. She sidestepped most of his questions about the interesting parts of her life.

On another note Looks like F250s are coming down in price. May be time for an upgrade

They still have a ways to go. I’m considering getting out of mine after 9 months and they are still offering more than I have in it on trade which seemed nuts with the declining used market.

The other thread is a great read. Very odd, but still worth the time.

I have done two estates (parents) substantially under the estate tax exemption, so no real worries about that.  Stepped up basis in some assets (real estate) was an issue, though.  Estate tax returns were done, as they were in friends' relatives probates, all substantially under the estate tax exemption.

Is there some kind of de minimis exception for estate tax returns?

We rarely file estate tax returns unless there is a taxable estate, one is required in a probate situation, or it is borderline taxable based on arguable valuation amounts. There is no requirement to file by the IRS unless taxable. However, you still need determinations of value to set inherited value without the estate tax return.
