Pressly hasn't been himself for about a year, I fully expected him to blow the lead last night. I wasn't happy that he was brought in to try and close it out, but i'm also not sure there are any better options on the team right now.

I don’t know what’s going on with him. The stuff looks intact but his command seems to have degraded.

So I presume Pressley is the new closer?  Is he even healthy?

Just shut him down and save him for 2021 lol.  What this season is doing to the careers of quite a few pitchers should be the second biggest story of this season besides the COVID shenanigans.

aaaand this is where we are:

”The Astros make their second stop on this 9-game road trip in Arizona where they’ll take on the Diamondbacks in some middle of the week action. Diamondbacks veteran, Madison Bumgarner will take on the Astros lights out rookie bullpen.

It's been a like a week, and outside of Taylor, none of the other rookies who will remain in the pen (Framber and Javier will both be at least tandem starters in the near future) have been "lights out."  If there have been any pleasent surprises this season on the pitching side, it's that the idea of an LMJ/Greinke/Urquidy/Javier/Valdez rotation is a more appetizing option today than it would have been entering the season.

  4. I think MLB is illustrating how difficult it's going to be for college football to complete even a shortened season this fall unless there is a magical, substantial decline in community spread of the virus in the next month or two, or unless we magically get accurate instant tests.  Given community spread and a several day delay in receiving results from an accurate test, once a few players get it on a team the virus is going to spread like wildfire throughout the team and it's going to spread to players/staff of other teams during games.

I’m sure I’m just pissed off and hyperbolizing, but this feels like the most miserable time I’ve had being an Astros fan. Sure, the baseball was bad in the dark years, but there’s at least something endearing about rooting for a genuinely untalented team trying their best. But the injuries of this year combined with the unclutch hitting combined with the utter dogshit play from our best players, all while the rest of the baseball world wants MMP to burn to the ground with everyone inside... it just feels like an obligation to root for this team right now, rather than the fun it should be. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll still watch every damn inning, but holy shit.

It's a joke season bereft of a real spring training - I don't know what you were expecting.  The product MLB is putting on the field is similar to spring training but with a bunch of pitchers blowing out their arms.

At this point I'm only really interested in seeing the young players (particularly the pitchers) develop.  This is not real baseball and the career altering injuries a number of pitchers are suffering because of the abbreviated ramp-up should single-handedly cost Manfred his job.

  6. This is just sad. The virus is simply too out of control for this type of league to work. We’re a glorified third world country at this point compared to Europe and East Asia.  Embarrassing.

The House Armed Services committee has 57 members, with Democrats outnumbering Republicans 31-26.

    The vote passed 45-11.

    lol fuck Fozzz

We expect the Republicans to be awful, and there’s nothing remarkable when they do things that will end up resulting in the deaths of more Americans. I thought we expected more from the Democrats, though. Aren’t they the good team?

If you want to admit that they are no better than the other side, then I will be willing to remark on Republicans doing Republican things.

The gall of those democrats to expect us to clean up the mess we made and not abandon our allies.

I promise you, we will never, ever, clean up the mess we made.  Not in another year, not in another hundred years.  If that is your criterion for leaving then we might as well annex the entire country.

    Ahhhhhh, this:

Yep, just like Trump and all the others out there that are running a grift through politics. She decided to look at things holistically and try to find answers that balance the impact as much as possible. What a worthless striver.

Her aversion to class politics in favor of identity politics is outlined better here:

She seems like someone who has thought thru this pretty deeply and I think would serve her well if ascending to President. But you are probably right, just a face who wants to be wealthy.

That is laughable.  The identity politics used by the right to dissolve class solidarity cannot be combated by an inverse identity politics practiced by the other side.  All people like Abrams can possibly hope to achieve with their project is to diversify the winners and losers, which will do nothing to address the totality of suffering of the poor.  It will lend some legitimacy to that suffering though as it it's much easier to blame downscale whites for their predicament than it is to blame blacks, which is probably why the Democratic party has moved and is continuing to move in this direction.

Thats certainly one way to interpret her quote.

She was talking about a $15 minimum wage statewide being too much of a shock to the economy.

lol didn't want to jeopardize that A rating from the Georgia Chamber of Commerce.  She's a grifter, which is why she's been groveling so obscenely for the VP spot and why she defended Bloomberg's campaign.  Her politics is a politics of what will serve to advance her career and nothing more.  It has to be embarrassing to others in her profession how transparent she is about it.

    citation?

Try Google. She has said, in the context of rejecting a statewide $15 minimum wage, that she has no interest in doing class warfare because she wants to be wealthy.  She’s openly acknowledged that she doesn’t want to upset the paymasters.

Pretty telling you would describe a black woman with a law degree from Yale, an MPA from UT, and 10 years of state congressional experience (including 6 as minority leader) as "a face and nothing else".

I couldn’t care less about her or any other politician’s academic credentials. They are meaningless to how she would govern if Biden were to croak. If anything it just reinforces the fact that she’s a worthless striver looking to use her political career as a means, in her words, to become wealthy.

    More VP polling!

In the poll, nominating a woman of color was more important to whites than Blacks. Seventy-five percent of whites said it was very or somewhat important to them; 60% of Blacks took that view. So did 81% of Hispanics.

Among Democrats under 25, 85% called it very or somewhat important, a higher proportion than among older voters.

Let's get Condoleezza Rice on the ticket!

    Vindicated by what?

Well, instead of dropping out prior to Super Tuesday, when it was beyond obvious she had no shot of winning anything and would even be humiliated in her home state, she decided to stay in, ensuring that Biden would win the nomination.  She endured a third place finish in Massachusetts just to ensure a conservative represents the Democratic party in November.
