  1. Ok making progress on the transfer and car rental front.
Carm is setting me up with airport to ferry (plus bottle water for the family and a dos x for me), ferry tickets, pick up from ferry and transport to American car rental at the airport. There is a shuttle from the car rental to take us back to the airport.
I booked the car online, I booked the full size with a manual. To my surprise they didn't take a credit card for the reservation. If I pay in advance through the site, am I going to get beaten up with the exchange rate?
Speaking of, I recall reading in this thread about not using your cc to pay for stuff on the island. I hate carrying cash. That really my only option? Also not thrilled with the idea of having to stop at a grocery store or bank to pull out a bunch of cash once we land. I don't mind a lazy tax of a few bucks if I can exchange at a bank before I leave, but a couple hundred bucks lazy tax is a bridge too far. What is my best bet?

Wtf are you me in an alternate world? This is the same exact thing we are doing, down to the manual van rental, water for kids and the XX

I need to nail down transfers and car rental for late July for 4 of us. Any experience with Cancun Valet? That's who wood's guy sent me to. Is there a preferred safe rental car company? Will need to get from the airport to the island, then a few days later off the island and to the rental car, and then of course rental car back to airport.

going in 10 days. booked transfers through https://carmtransfers.com/isla-mujeres-transfers/ and car rental through https://americacarrental.com.mx/en/cars/cancun-airport

I'll have to get her some to see if she likes them.

I just stopped by a Helados La Azteca near my job and grabbed a couple bags of Churrumais yesterday that came out to $7.50. We paid $35 pesos for two of them on Isla.

yeah just make sure they're the Stix and not the regular takis

Wife grew up splitting time between US & Zacatecas and she's obsessed with them.

has she tried the takis stix? hard to find, but they're a good copy of churrumais.

you should be able to find churrumais at a michoacana if you have one near you

Another excellent trip and the locals were back to being as friendly as they were a decade or so ago. We really had excellent service at all three of Mahache (first time for us here), North Garden, and Abuelos. Also had fun searching through Super Aki, Oxxo, and convenience stores looking for some Churrumais that the wife was craving. We ended up finding it at one of the small tiendas in an alleyway where we bought them out.

Abuelos was especially over the top great with the whole family, dog (x2), and cat greeting us.

churrumais is my jam. i grew up eating them as a kid in mexico. 10 days and i'll be in isla - can't wait!

Dear 7 pound 4 oz sweet baby Jesus along with all Surlyite followers of Baal-

I have been volun-told that I need to smoke brisket for my wife's(no pics shitbirds-but I will follow up with pics of brisket hopefully) family celebrating my MIL's 80th birthday this weekend. This will be my first brisket ever, so this is obviously not ideal. I'll be cooking on a Green Egg XL for 25 ppl.  I decided that I'll do two 12 lb briskets pre-trimmed. I have the Big Green Egg Cookbook and will follow that recipe. I've gotten pretty good at regulating the temp on a BGE, and will be using the double probed BGE thermometer, wrap at 160 etc.  Any tips, or things to look out for you could share-I'd be grateful for.  I already have the number of a pizza place in case shit goes awry.

this is a terrible idea...everyone's first brisket is straight shit. do yourself a favor and order a couple of briskets from franklin, la bbq, interstellar, any of of those places

My kids were so little then that instead of paying for a seat donation I was doing those FlexPass season tickets that were essentially  "buy tickets but pick the week of the game what seats you get" deals they had at that time since we left by half time most games. At the time, I thought it was the best deal ever, since I didn't have to pay any seat donation but still got in to see most of the games for like $25 per ticket.

If I was smart I would have gotten better seats as an investment in the future, but didn't think that way at the time.

i initially only had 2 because my girls were little, but then when i decided to increase to 4 i lucked out. 4 on the aisle came open (heard from the people around me that they likely may have died as they were older)... section 9 under the overhang.

    never giving these seats up

I recently read the corded versions are generally superior to cordless. More power. And there have been a few house fires attributed to battery powered cleaners catching fire while charging.

Can you leave it plugged in and in the pool for a couple days at a time. Like if I’m out off town for 3 days can I put it in before I leave and get 2 separate cleanings out of it?

i have the dolphin and it's in the pool full time unless we're swimming. 3+ years no issues

I like North Garden for breakfast (chilaquiles) and it's going to be near where you'll be for the beach. If you get a golf cart then Mango's is good, but it's been a couple years since we've eaten there so I can't verify if that's still the case.

north garden is awesome, but you will wait for a bit unless you get there super early

Heading to Cancun for Spring Break with the family, and we are staying at a hotel next to the ferry that goes to IM. I'm thinking a day trip to the north side island beaches would be fun for my kids (7 & 9 yo girls). Any recs for beaches/restaurants/must-do's? Do we have to pay for beach usage, or just chair/cabana rentals? Any day clubs allow kids? Also, do we need a golf cart to get to the north side beach, or is it walkable from the ferry?

This would be our first time to the island, so I have zero expectations.

you don't have to pay for beach usage, but if you want chairs yes you will need to pay... usually whatever you pay goes towards your food/drink. you don't need a golf cart to walk from the ferry to playa norte... it's a few blocks. restaurants, anything in the main street Hidalgo

  13. my pool in round rock is currently being resurfaced by Kingz (they're based out of houston but have a central texas entity)... super happy so far... they started this past monday and everything is ready to go, with plaster scheduled for tomorrow but postponed due to the freeze coming in next few days.

got about 10 quotes total, and although they weren't the cheapest (nor most expensive) i felt it was best bang for the buck

We have some good friends, who, despite plenty of other great qualities, do this regularly.  My wife and I and our two kids go to their place.  They have 3 boys.  5 strips go on.  Maybe two get sliced up for nine people, and 2 or 3 remaining strips go into the fridge.  I need to have them over again and cook strips for everyone to model good behavior.

next time show up with extra steaks and tell them those are for you since they never grill enough of them. that'll teach them

Well shit.  My wife is invited to a shower on game day. That starts at 3 fucking o'clock!!!!  I assume they (sort of like me) thought the game was going to be on Friday.  The kicker is the damn shower is at The Bowie on Rainey, and apparently there is no parking?!?!?!

So the wife want's me to drop her off, and pick her up.  I of course will adapt and overcome.  But what do you guys think the odds of the 2:30 kick vs the 7 pm kick?  I can say fuck it, you find parking. I guess alternatively... where the hell should I watch the game if I am playing chauffeur downtown if it's an early kick....

dude wtf... they have these things called uber and lyft nowadays.

Arkansas specifically has a LOT of kids(especially DFW) from Texas who have parents who went to Texas or colleges that aren't "Texas haters".

yup, a friend (texas ex), his two kids ended up at arkansas. the son is die hard longhorn to this day and he's a junior at arkansas. i asked him if he's wearing Texas or Arkansas gear to the game and he said Texas
