  1. I called TEX from an airplane phone over the Pacific ocean. It cost a fucking fortune, but felt pretty damn futuristic compared to sitting on the ground in the Drum waiting for someone to come drop a class in person. My then girlfriend and I both tried registering via TEX from southern Germany that first year. The touchtone buttons never worked correctly so we wound up getting a bunch of crappy also ran classes when we got back to 'Murica. The German phone would just give a long, hollow tone so TEX wasn't interested. Making this relevant to the realignment thread, I assume this technology is still current for half of the SEC partners we now have.
  2. That Hellfest lineup is nuts. Megadeth is the opening act two different nights. Skinny Puppy / Killing Joke / Ministry / NIN is amazing. I didn't know Atari Teenage Riot was still around. And there are some very solid hidden gems in there as well. Damn.
  3. well 2021 is gonna be a shitfest of anti-Texas officiating
  4. This sounds like the Shaka Smart strategy -- honor the contract until the members of the contract leave of their own accord so that no penalties need to be paid. No way the B12 survives until 2024, so why not "play nice" until the thing implodes and you can walk away without financial consequence?
  5. I read this in the voice of your avatar and it was 100% funnier.
  6. The real question in all of this is not "Will Texas go to the SEC?" or "Will aggy threaten to leave the SEC in retaliation?" It's "Can I fucking read fast enough to stay current on this goddamn beautiful realignment thread?"
  7. Guess we'll need to schedule a new out of conference opponent for 2022-23, since Bama will now be a conference game? Would be great to schedule Baylor or TTU, but I suppose that has little chance of happening 😄 I suppose if we're SEC that means Liberty or Texas Women's University or some such formidable foe...
  8. If you had told me several years ago that rape-enabling Art Briles and Baylor wouldn't have a lot of sanctions immediately, but would be out on their asses like a jettisoned piece of garbage in 2022, I would've taken that deal.
  9. This is where I'm having trouble believing it's happening. OU has never had more consistent success and money than since the advent of the Big 12, and there's no end in sight for them.
  10. I figure if I get pulled over I might as well take the loss because I've gotten away with so much dumb stuff over the years I've got it coming.
  11. It has the classic VW smell, which I love and my wife hates. It's a mixture of horsehair seat filling / padding and gasoline. Intoxicating.
  12. A few years ago I bought a '71 VW Beetle on the super cheap. Dial radio, manual windows, manual transmission, no power steering, no electronics anywhere unless you count the dome light that comes on when you open the door. It is so freeing to drive that car. I turn the key, prime the gas pedal (or roll start it), and that's it. No beeping, no back up camera, no lane assist, no infotainment system, no syncing with Bluetooth. Technology gets obsolete so fast and as you say the value of the car goes down with it. In a weird way, the thing I like most about that old VW is its complete and utter obsolescence.
  13. I don't want his mom to die of a preventable disease either. Or anybody's mom, for that matter. Does that sound selfish? Fascinating.

  15. I forgot about the go-kart hijinks. I had a pretty great go-kart out in what were then the boonies at Lake Travis. Dirt roads everywhere. We figured out we could put a stick into the connector between the accelerator and the carburetor so that the go-kart would go even faster then if the accelerator were floored. Basically just using the connector as our gas pedal. Pretty safe to be reaching behind you to control speed with one hand while trying to steer that contraption faster than it was engineered to go with the other hand. Not surprisingly we rammed that go-kart into more cedar trees and ditches than I could count, usually with us flying ass over teakettle like crash test dummies. When that got boring we decided it would be extra awesome to chunk rocks at the drivers as they passed by. I don't think I need to describe what happened as a result, but the go-kart quickly acquired the taste for blood. Damn, life was awesome at that age.
  16. My nomination is electronic registration for damn near everything. Seems like I'm always having to register on some new site or app to get info that I used to get without a hassle. You want to pay for your kid's school lunch? We don't take cash and don't do checks. Use the app. You want to pay me for babysitting? Just Venmo me. You want to buy a hammer? Give me your email address and I'll just enter you into our system... I was traveling recently and wanted to get tickets for a national park. If it were only that easy. First you create your account profile, then you link it to your card, then they verify you, then you verify your password, blah blah blah. I just wanted to go hiking.
  17. Just because you don't understand science doesn't mean it isn't real. I could give two fucks about people who want to "feel safe." I had a bad case of the rona and got vaccinated -- I'm feeling pretty damn good about my own safety, regardless of how many unvaccinated dipshits surround me. But when unvaccinated people fuck up life for the rest of us, then yeah I get pretty salty. You get vaccinated for two reasons: to keep yourself from getting sick and to get our country back. Remember patriotism?
