I am speechless. The universe didn't want us to win this one. I blame this one on D to give that last TD to Duggan. We are not world beaters this year but can over achieve by winning the Bid 12 and then see how the other dominos fall.

Why so we can continue to not be world beaters?   Seriously.   This is Herman's team and you are seeing what the product will always be.  If we destroyed tech and struggled with TCU maybe.... but no we struggle with everyone....

The All-American alumnus would have benefitted greatly from some sort of cover. He and Kristy are currently experiencing the effects of not having any cover whatsoever because of how much kowtowing TH/Yancy/Hand eventually did.

I keep seeing this referenced, but haven't actually seen anything where the Brocks are getting treated like Pariahs?  Would love to though.

How about because its the right fucking thing to do?  Also - the reporting that was done after the first meeting was that Interim and CDC didn't wouldn't commit to anything - thats a terrible fucking move.

This is real fucking simple - several of those buildings need their names changed and the Interim and CDC should come out publicly and promise to advocate for those changes to the BOR.  No one is asking for them to rip the nameplates down - but what they want is more than promises of 'we're working behind the scenes'.

1st we have no idea what CDC did or didn't commit to at the meeting.  2nd or 3rd hand crap isn't something to go on here.

2nd the right thing to do or not, there is a labyrinthian amount of crap you have to dig through to change things on a public university campus the size of Texas.

3rd The BOR aren't just sitting around waiting for the University to need them to show up for a meeting.  They have their own lives and concerns going on in the middle of a pandemic. It isn't that simple and it is infantile to act like it is.

Even if you choose to ignore the fact that the building names have been an issue on campus for years - other schools are dealing with the same shit and handling it better.

Princeton took a presidents name off of a building but we can't commit to changing a building that was named after a teacher who wouldn't teach black students.

Princeton is a private University that has none of the trappings and hoops that are involved with a gianormous public university and policy changes.  It will all require BOR approval, and I am sorry the BOR isn't going to drop everything and have an emergency meeting to make sweeping changes because the athletes  think they are moving too slowly.

The first play is a cheap shit.

Um its a kickoff return, he is literally coached to pick out his man and run and knock the crap out of him to prevent him making the play?  That is his focus, he has no clue what the back behind him is doing wants he turns upfield to block his man.  Thats a good block.

  6. Woody Hayes was old school and he hung around too long but he was a hell of a coach and his players knew how to play the game.  He was a hell of a lot better than Switzer ever could be.  Hays had a temper and was probably slightly unhinged at the end, but that still makes him a saint compared to Barry. It was a sad ending to a legendary career to me.  Bryant, Royal, Schembechler, Wilkerson, Hayes, etc were giants of the game, but none of em were saints. To quote James Street, "Coach Royal had an open door policy, but that was a door you never wanted to enter."

Odom may not have Ryan Walters with him??

Missouri: Source tells FootballScoop Drink has offered to retain several of Barry Odom’s staff. We are told defensive line coach Brick Haley, DC/safeties coach Ryan Walters and defensive backs coach David Gibbs are all expected to remain on staff at this time.

    https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/mizzou-football/3-missouri-defensive-assistants-to-reportedly-stay-on-staff-under-eli-drinkwitz/

Key info there is "at this time"  as In they haven't been fired yet and aren't going to quit jobs until they have someplace new to go.

When it starts to really happen I don't think it will happen on this thread. The name of the thread will be like Harrell is coming / done deal/ etc with like 20 tweets on the first page with all the $9.95 trying to pretend they knew when it was happening. This thread is for therapy and the latest rumors or making up stuff just to see folks reactions.

I am expecting it to break on the recruiting thread of all places.....

I'm guessing he wants to keep his very highly compensating job even more. Herman watched the offense flounder this year while whatever shitty decision-making process wasn't working at all. He has stated and shown repeatedly that he doesn't want to run the offense, not calling plays or coordinating the gameplan. It seemed to me that he was too trusting of the guys he hired to do so.

Despite being burned by his trust, I expect Herman to grant Harrell autonomy but also to see Harrell incorporate some of Herman's concepts into his offense. For Herman, the stakes are much higher than they are for Harrell at this point.

Plus in all honesty, Herman doesn't have to be seen as an offensive innovator anymore. He is at a position where if he is successful as a head coach, no one will ever give a crap about who's offens it is.  Tom has his issues, but he isn't freaking John "give me all the credit for everything" Markovic .

Well, Harrell's role will be different from the DC hire's.  The DC will be running his own show while Harrell will not be granted the same level of autonomy.  Harrell will probably have a similar role as what LSU did with Brady in revamping their passing concepts.

What?  Harrell is coming to be passing game coordinator?

Have you not heard Herman since he got here?  The man wants to wash his hands of the offense and let someone else handle it. He would be perfectly happy running the program and recruiting and not having to step in and fix the offense.  If Harrell comes, it will be his show.

Huh? Southern Cal's offense was much, much better this year than last year despite injuries, a 3rd string QB, and poor recruiting. And their star recruit having whatever issues he has that kept him from playing (Bru McCoy).

Adjusted yards per play went from #48 to #11, S&P+ offense went from #46 to #9, FEI offense went from #87 to #13.

I think he is mocking people/not serious.

  12. I still think we get Harrell, but the people bagging on Lashlee are being somewhat ridiculous.

Lashlee has coached under 2 highly successful offensive coaches.  As I understand it he called plays this year at SMU, which in all seriousness is half the problem we have anyway.

Also, as has already been stated, he was used as the fall guy when Gus almost burned down his program after winning the NC.  You guys think Herman is an ass? Talk to people who have interacted with Gus at all. I have been told part of why Lashlee was used as the fall guy by Gus was that he spent his last season at Auburn trying to handle Gus and keep him from pissing people off at Auburn and Gus didn't like being handled.

Lashlee would be fine.  I think we get Harrell, but Lashlee is still far better than than Beck/committee and in no way is he Shawn Watson level.

I disagree.  I don't think he gets any more blame at USC than he would here.

He's in his 2nd season with an established offense that he is given full credit/blame for.  His offense was successful this year.  If it falls apart next year, he will definitely catch blame.

If he comes to Texas and installs a dynamic and successful offense he will be credited.  If it doesn't work he won't be blamed as he wasn't here long enough to put his full offense in place etc.

He doesn't have a ton of exposure at USC, but he has less risk in coming to Texas.  Plus, he gets to get the hell out of LA and come back to Texas.

My assumption is that whatever we offer would need to be bested by USC (and will...they’re just as desperate as us right now). If that’s the case, the money is a wash. The same get fired/get cash exists at USC, so it comes down to where he thinks the next 1-2 years can best be spent setting himself up for a HC position. In that scenario, he knows, for better or worse, exactly what he has at USC...both from his players and his boss. Hopefully he likes what he see with the Texas roster, but the big unknown is Tom Herman’s ability to check his ego and let a young up and comer turn things around (and get all the credit/glory for doing so) utilizing his own offensive system.

How likely do you think that is?

Oh, and as much as Herman seems to not want to run the offense himself....I think he would be perfectly fine handing the reins to someone else and letting them run with it.

I actually believe Tom would be perfectly happy CEOing the program and staying the hell away from play calling.

  15. He also has a built in excuse at Texas if it doesn't work.  If Texas goes south next year and we clean house it won't stick to Harrel, he just couldn't fix Herman's mess.  If on the other hand, the drop in talent and other issues at USC cause his offense to regress and he can't repeat his magic in year 2 when the offense is his.....He has much less risk coming to Texas.

  16. Herman doesn't need someone to set the world on fire to be successful.  What he needs is an OC that can put a competent gameplan for the offense and give it some idea of an identity and to call plays.  So he doesn't have to and so this god damn idea of offense by committee can go away. Lashlee is more than capable of that.  Lashlee is a lot less meh than Joe Brady was a year ago or Ruhle was.

I still think its gonna be Harrell.
