    I'll brace for incoming negbombs.

I liked Katy and Robert.  I got to know them personally, and I liked them.

I didn't necessarily agree with their moderation policies.  In fact, I often disagreed with them, but, it was their site, not mine.  I got more blinking envelopes than I can count.

I helped host all but one of the hornfans CA tailgates along with Robert and Katy.  I wasn't involved with the first Holiday Bowl, but I did all the rest of them, along with both Pasadena games.  I was the asshole with the horse trailer full of beer (pulled by my tits Bronco that my cunt ex won in the divorce), and I was almost always cooking sausages or Carne Asada, on my grill that I hauled from home in the trailer.  For those that didn't have a ticket to the USC game, that was my (really fucking big in those days) TV set up on the Brookside golf course for the watch party.  There were at least a couple hundred folks gathered for that.

I have vivid memories of meeting the Agnor's at Costco the day before the game, and loading 40 30-packs of beer and untold amounts of ice into my trailer, all paid for by hornfans.  1200 fucking beers for thirsty Texans.

This site is certainly a vast improvement, but hornfans, in it's prime, was the best thing on the 'net (at the time).

I tailgated with them for years, I was in school when they started hosting, and it was a great meeting spot for years.  It was great for away games, too. Just had to find the blimp.

I showed up to that Rose Bowl early in the morning with $1,000 in my pocket for one ticket, walked around the grounds for hours, asked every bus load of passengers that disembarked, and found not one ticket for sale at any price the entire day. Still have great memories of watching that game on your big TV. We might not have been inside the stadium, but we could hear and feel the roar of the crowd with every play. On 4th and 5, it felt like we had seats on the goal line and when VY scored, everyone was hugging each other in jubilation. Truly an unforgettable experience. Cheers.

Same experience, but I bribed the ticket taker $200, present and push method. Then I had $800 to spend on beer inside.

  2. Boston next weekend.

Thurs: Holiday Pops at Symphony Hall

Fri: Czarface (as part of a holiday variety show) at the Wilbur (It might just be 7L and Esoteric, still don't know if Inspectah Deck will be there)

Expect both to be a fun time, will have to pack my nice boots.

     Will read this one later.

It was a good read. I'd like to personally apologize to Emmylou Harris as I was part of that rowdy crowd at Luckenbach in 1998.

  3. We saw William Beckmann last night at Cheatham St. I had only seen him at the REK fan appreciation show do a couple acoustic songs. The full set with a full band was a really good show.

He sold out last night and they added another show tonight; I fully recommend heading to San Marcos tonight.

Why does the next hire always seems to be in response to the weaknesses of the previous hire? That phenomenon seems to be everywhere, not just at A&M. Defensive guy didn't work out? Hire an offensive guy. Older, experienced guy couldn't adapt to modern game? Take a flyer on a young up and comer. Last guy was an overbearing abrasive disciplinarian? Hire a players coach.

We've done it here for years. Hired Mackovick in response to Akers offensive drudgery. Hired folksy homegrown McWilliams in response to Mackovick's Yankee wine sipping aloofness. Hired Mack in response to McWilliams' disorganization and lack of recruiting chops. Hired Strong to clean out the culture in response to Mack's a country club. Hired up and coming Mensa offensive guy in response to Strong's incompetence and offensive futility. Hired affable Sarkisian in response to dickhead Herman's arrogance.

I'm not sure what the reaction to the Jimbo Fisher era is, though. I'm sure they think that the only thing wrong with their program is his antiquated offense, so they will probably go for the next young, spread guru. They also see what's happening in Knoxville so that probably seems like the path forward for them. Of course, the only given is that they will fuck it up. It's what they do. #aggieDNA

    Akers > McWilliams > Mackovic > Mack

Billy Strings is coming to ATL but it’s the big NBA arena. Anyone seen him in a venue like that? I’d much prefer something smaller.

I saw him at xfinity center outside of Boston. Was worth it.

I thought Charlie Robison had retired?  Is this like Sara Hickman's "retirement"?

My understanding was a surgery left him unable to sing, so it was a forced retirement. Maybe it was bullshit; maybe it's not and he's recovered enough to tour again.

I just saw Charley Crockett goes on at 10 pm at Floore's. So that's a no regardless of my location. I'll catch him at ACL Live in December.

Ok, well, gf is gonna be in town and we'll spend the night in San Antonio. So, I just bought tickets to both William Beckmann (11/10) and Charley Crockett (11/12). She's a New England girl, but has embraced my Texas music roots. She doesn't really like The Scabs though... I guess there was a time and a place for them.

  8. This is a cool thread. BoomMF... what a collection!!

Why I'm posting here now... my kids (7 and 9) asked me to restart game night. Previously we had focused on junior versions of well-known games (Catan and Ticket to Ride jr.), cooperative games, and stuff with minimal reading. Now that the youngest has switched to avid reader status, we have a wider range of games from which to choose. Currently they are getting into Pokemon and Magic the Gathering, but I'd like to shift to fully-contained games. Looking for a decent amount of strategy, no horror/fear themes, and a play time of about 90 minutes.

Would they be ready for real Catan or Ticket to Ride? What would y'all suggest?
