  1. This is a cool thread. BoomMF... what a collection!!

Why I'm posting here now... my kids (7 and 9) asked me to restart game night. Previously we had focused on junior versions of well-known games (Catan and Ticket to Ride jr.), cooperative games, and stuff with minimal reading. Now that the youngest has switched to avid reader status, we have a wider range of games from which to choose. Currently they are getting into Pokemon and Magic the Gathering, but I'd like to shift to fully-contained games. Looking for a decent amount of strategy, no horror/fear themes, and a play time of about 90 minutes.

Would they be ready for real Catan or Ticket to Ride? What would y'all suggest?

Assuming no Boston, porque no Los dos?!

I just saw Charley Crockett goes on at 10 pm at Floore's. So that's a no regardless of my location. I'll catch him at ACL Live in December.

  3. Billy Strings was really good Thursday night. They played for 3.5 hours with about a 10 minute break between sets. They kept going until Stubbs said no more.

Dwight Yoakam played the hits on Saturday and it was a solid overall show.

Nothing else on the schedule right now... might check out William Beckmann at Cheatham in San Marcos Nov 10 or Charley Crockett at Floore's Nov 12, or both, if I'm not in Boston.

I'm seeing Billy Strings at Stubbs on 10/13. Been about a decade and a half since I've been to Stubbs so not sure what to expect.

Same show, I haven't been to Stubb's since seeing Social Distortion around 2006.

    Where do I park?

  5. Apparently enough to setup 4 shows during the week of thanksgiving.  Maybe he won’t be doing all the vocals, maybe he will. Just saw a post on Galleywinter’s FB though, and they wouldn’t put that out there if it weren’t accurate.

    That’s awesome!!
  6. Was in Boston for work this week. My badass gf got me a trip out on the ocean with her upstairs neighbor. Like I’ve said before, she’s new to this sport, but enjoys it. She’s getting pretty good too!

We sabiki’ed up some mackerel and drifted them. Caught a bunch of decent Stripers and a couple of decent blues.

I’m cooking Striper and Andouille gumbo right now. I swear it tastes better than Buchanan/Freshwater Stripers.

We also saw a Mola Mola which I’ve never seen before, but was a cool experience:

Would love to listen to those if you can make them available.

Happy to share; not sure on the best way to send them.

  7. Since getting back to Texas, I’ve been seeing a bit of music.

    REK at the Austin Rodeo
Willie and Charley Crockett at Whitewater
Charley Crockett again in Holyoke, MA
    REK at Floore’s

    Upcoming:
    HeartByrne at Far out Lounge
Willie, Avett Bros, Billy Strings in MA
    Dwight Yoakam at Whitewater

    REK

Got to see the Thursday show at Floore’s. Was awesome. Also recorded the live streams for the three shows and the fan appreciation show. So those will be fun to relive.

My gf is still up in MA, she saw REK when she visited for the rodeo, and we watched and texted during the Sunday night show. She then sent me a bunch of articles she found and read about him.

Does anyone know why Bryan Duckworth left the band? And when? It was weird seeing the band without Rich and Duck. Brian Beken was good; I always enjoyed South Austin Jug Band.

  8. Bass camp starts tomorrow, but I took the gf out on the Deerfield river with my favorite guide as a pre-camp excursion.

We stopped counting after 50 smallies and ended up with 5 bass in the 17”-19” class. (She caught 4 of them). She was awesome fishing flukes, and the smallies took my poppers all afternoon. I even took a blackmail picture of the guide trying out the spinning rod. He caught a bass on his only cast.

This last big one came when I had hooked the small bass on a popper and saw the big one chasing it. I barked out orders to cast at my fish and she got the big one to take her fluke. It was a really dramatic take, super close to the raft, and it taped out at 19”.

As per usual, saw lots of wildlife, including a bald eagle catching a fish.

Finished the day up with a Charley Crockett concert in Holyoke, MA.

  9. Necro-ish bump for particpated threads sake.

Got a circulator this week. An Anova clone from monoprice. So far, I've done chicken thighs, a strip, and pork chops. They all were good, but nothing special. Definitely over cooked the latter two, wonder if my circulator runs hot.

Appreciate the reply. I go braid to flouro leader on my baitcasters already, and that's the plan for the spinning.

Another question I just thought of: do you back up the braid with anything? A layer of mono, or maybe electrical tape?

    Thanks

I use a small bit of duct or electrical tape generally. I've also used dacron flyline backing when I didn't want to spool up 300yds on a surf reel, but I like the tape on light reels.
