HOOK IT TO MY VEINS!
Time to start sourcing your urine stained arctic fox fur to tie proper Hendricksons.

Llano bug and Llanolope are good terrestrials designed for that river. I believe Living Waters stocks both.

My parents called that "Tour de Fridge" i.e. just eat all the shit we already have.

did you keep and cook the stripers?
Nope, 28-35” slot. -

Big weekend for the Massholes. My son is turning 5 and wanted to have a special Striper trip for his birthday. So as I was calling looking for a last minute charter, a captain gave me a time/bait/tide combo. Saturday we got there and both kids landed 23” Stripers. The half day charter would have been a disaster as the kids were done after 30 minutes or so.
Yesterday we went to run the river. Both kids are getting into fly tying and my son wanted to catch one on one of “his” flies. Marabou tail, purple rubber legs, and a peacock herl body. I was able to hook a little smallie and he reeled it in. He was ecstatic. We got some good swimming in as well and saw a bald eagle.
I went back today solo. I’ve been working the Murdich minnow on a sinking line and it’s been effective; landed about 12 smallies on that fly. I nailed this one on a popper.
Next weekend we are headed to a cabin on Winnepausakee.- 13

Not anymore. That was....a long long time ago...
I live in ATX, above a bowling alley and below ANOTHER bowling alley.
I'd book a trip with Kevin Hutchison (Hill Country Fly Fishers) or Alvin Dedeaux (All Water Guides) for bass.
Tell them you're starting out and would like to try a few different rods. They'll give you a brief casting lesson and put you on fish. After tip, you'll be out ~$500 with a good idea of getting started.

Father’s Day gift for my old man
Clousers, Murdich Minnows, Flashdancers, Llano Bugs, Dahlberg Diver, Galloup Bangtail-ish, Schultz Swingin’ Ds, Double Barrel Poppers, and buggers. My daughter tied the Olive bugger, she’s working hard at the vise.
Not pictured: Full Day trip with Hill Country Fly Fishers
I had to bail on my summer trip to Texas, so I wanted to make sure my dad got on the water.- 6

I mean I watch football for entertainment. I don’t give a shit about their voices or value as people. I don’t know any of these people personally So why would I care? I care about the people I know and care about. If you say otherwise then you’re just a self-righteous person who in my estimation is full of shit.
No words. -
All the, “it’s just a song” responses are amusing. You know that argument cuts both ways, right?
To me, it’s just a song. To the student-athletes that are requesting it be removed, it’s a signal of racism.
Don’t get me wrong, some of my favorite memories involve singing that song, but I’ll defer to the current students and athletes on whether to change it. -

Could've used your expertise today on the upper Portneuf. Bugs, bugs, bugs everywhere, and the trout were rising, but my buddy and I were struggling to match it. Recognized the yellow sallies, PMDs, some kind of olive (except it had clear wings), and a weird-ass snakefly, but no pattern I tried worked beyond the occasional take.
Still, it was a very lovely day.
Just after missing a take.
My friend had better luck.
I'll get my revenge next week.
That fish is pretty skinny for the size of its head. Is that typical or just the angle?

With all the draft pick nonsense going around, I pulled some info and plotted some trend lines for some perspective......
This is the # of Texas players taken in the draft per year since 1938.
This is a scatter plot of winning % per year with trend line since 1893. The red dots are a 5 year moving average. Can you see the cycles?
Now might be a good time to get on the Texas bus. Tunmise?
You should normalize the y-axis on the first graph.

Neighbors growing up had a trout shack on the landcut. Got to make 2-3 trips down there as a kid. Probably my favorite fishing and hunting experiences of my life. Some day I’ll find a way to make another run.

They are incredibly well built. Get one in your hands and you’ll be blown away with the craftsmanship.
Note to self: don't go to Orvis store anytime soon.

I actually have an old Orvis Rocky Mountain Large Arbor that I'm using, also have an intermediate line coming. Those Hydros look nice though.

What rod did you go with?
Orvis Clearwater
Someday I'll buy a rod from a different series.

These are saltwater fish. I’m targeting them a little bit upstream from the mouth of a tidal river.
I don’t do a lot of true surf fishing. I need to find some more reliable spots near me. I do have a few spots in some of the smaller bays and coves where I’ve had decent luck.
I also have a new 10wt rod coming in to punch those flies a little further to cover more ground.- 2

First Striper on the fly!
EP baitfish in white with a little pearl gold angel hair. Fished on full sink line on a 6wt.- 5

School is back in session.
Schoolies were biting on the falling tide to 25”. Wind was blowing at 20mph, so I didn’t cast the fly rod. Will be back at sunrise; hopefully the wind will be down a bit.- 1

Yep, chain pickerel.
I love fly fishing for northerns. Not too many around me, but next time I get back to Minnesota, I’m gonna swap a day of targeting smallies for northerns. -
Out on a local pond in the canoe, both kids were casting paddle tails on 1/8oz jig heads. Daughter landed this toothy bad boy all on her own. I was amazed that no one hooked themselves or each other.
I’ve been tying EP Baitfish getting ready for Stripers. This one is about 4” long on a 1/0 SW hook.
I’ve never fished an EP baitfish, I’ll have a floating and sinking line with me. Any tips?- 4

I got some Tecovas gift cards for my birthday back in early March, but still haven't used them yet b/c I've been wanting to go to the physical location down in Rice Village and try stuff on. I don't like buying expensive clothing/footwear sight unseen, especially with a brand I haven't owned before. Never sure how they will fit and what the color will actually look like compared to the pictures online.
Have had my eyes set on the Bourbon-colored lizard boots and matching belt. Hopefully I will finally get a chance to join the club in May.
Order a couple sizes at once, use a credit card, and return the ones that don’t fit. Their customer service is great. -

that looks like a used fly that you found on the river bank.
i keed.
It's pretty gnarly, but it'll fish.
I watched him tie it on YouTube yesterday, man kept me rapt for over an hour tying one fly. I tried tying one in purple and black as well. Main issues are hook and eyes. I'm using Mustad 3366 and small lead eyes. This combo leads me to crowding the head and having to shave so close for the eyes to be visible that I lose the necessary material to keep that nice bullet shaped head.
I might try today, but skip the dubbed body on the front hook to make a bigger head.
