The Biden administration is extending a mask mandate for airplanes and transit for 15 days, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday.

Thank goodness.  Hopefully they will keep the 24-hour test requirement when flying back into the country as well, since I'm going to Isla in a month.

But they sure better not change the requirement of not testing anyone that walks across the border.  That would be ridiculous.

The next government imposed emergencies will be climate related. Here’s the first “soft lockdown” I’ve seen.

The tagline is wrong.  It's not 2.5 hour flights, it's flights to places that can be reached by a bus or train in 2.5 hours.  So more like a 45 minute or so flight, such as Austin to Houston.

Not much difference in the records between Payton and McCarthy:

    Sean Payton:                                      Mike McCarthy:

    131-77 record                                      125-77-2 record

.630 winning percentage                   .618 winning percentage,

6 division titles                                    6 division titles

8-7 playoff record                               10-8 playoff record

3 NFC title games                               4 NFC title games

1 Super Bowl ring                                1 Super Bowl ring

Payton lived off of Drw Brees. McCarthy lived off of Rodgers.

Asterisk for the Rams playoff game.  4 NFC titles and maybe another Super Bowl ring.

Can you imagine if you had driven your family cross-country, all the way to AstroWorld, and found out when you got there...that it was closed?

So many great afternoons up there and lord, was she a bitch. People may think she was doing a bit, but I firmly believe that she really was that miserable.

I was there the day the city closed her down because either the stairs or the patio was deemed unsafe. She was about to have an aneurism. Needless to say, we GTFO rather quickly. Not that we had a choice. She was giving the city inspector all sorts of hell. He didn't give a single fuck. It was actually kinda awesome to see her get dressed down like that.

    RIP Dry Creek.

Yes, she was a bitch.  She was also my wife's aunt.

Are you confused by the language of the current local ballot measures? Because that's what is at issue here.

You're the first to mention the city language, versus multiple references in this thread to the that put forth by the state legislature.

I wasn't defending the state language.  It's bad and always has been.  Just pointing out that Austin has been known for confusing language as well over the years in response to a comment made by another poster.

I think you're confusing the state lege with the city council. Language for the local ballot measures is pretty damn clear.

Putting that aside, don't you live in Oklahoma?

Austin my entire life - 52 years and counting.  And the last few Austin ballots have had city designated language challenged and changed.  Most recently the light rail language last year.

Why not? It happens automatically. That literally just happened to me when I refinanced during covid. It required a new appraisal of my home. Guess what it had appreciated. So my taxes will go up. Fuck, theoretically it happens every year anyway when they try to raise everyone’s Property taxes. It’s literally how the system is already designed to work.

An appraisal for a refinance does not impact your property taxes, unless you elect to share it with the appraisal district.  The appraisal district issues valuations which property taxes are based on.

  9. So everyone's property taxes go up (or their rent if they lease), everyone pays more at the gas station, and everyone pays a federal sales tax.  And everyone pays more for consumer goods because prices will go up due to the import tax.

    Sounds like a plan.

    2) You are admitting that a wealth tax is divisive. Okay.

Heres the other thing.  There shouldn't be the need for a wealth tax.   If a motherfucker had any scruples, he wouldn't be so wealthy that we'd be discussing this.  Instead, what you get, is this.

I am just deeply saddened by this man’s death. He was lied to. He believed it. He died and he didn’t have to, he died because it was convenient for others.

Who lied to him?  He made a bad/dumb choice.  The majority of us have made the right choice.

Tucker saying Biden is lying about Fox having a vax mandate.  Internet produces the Fox memo stating otherwise.

I wouldn't call that a vaccine mandate.  It's policies to be followed based on the vaccination status.

Imagine thinking Joe Biden is responsible for the fact that tens of millions of Republicans are trafficking in vaccine disinformation and turning their party into a death cult.

Biden deserves criticism for plenty of shit (such as his administration's near-immediate surrender on voting rights), but "he didn't eliminate the pandemic" is bullshit. If his administration has done anything well it was the initial vaccine rollout and it's not their fault the Republican party has turned into an enormous toddler that would rather kill itself than do anything that a Democrat says is a good idea.

There are a significant number of democrats not getting the vaccine as well and spreading mis-information.  I am unfortunate enough to have two sisters on this path.

Finally started this last night after downloading all 3 seasons on my DirecTV Genie.

After watching the first episode I'm considering just deleting it all.  Does it get better?  Kelly Reilly (while quite fetching) is almost as horrible an actress in this as she was in TD season 2.  Just seemed totally predictable and unintentionally funny at the same time (KC takes himself way too seriously).

Delete it.  It's a complete waste of time.  Not only based on pretty much all of the posters on this thread that like it, but the overall popularity of it with pretty much anyone that's seen it, myself included.  All of us are wrong.

I talked with my daughter this weekend. Turns out, mentioning the report made her irritated. (My summation of her words:) “Pointing to a report to help explain why a song doesn’t have racist roots or connotations is lame. Who wants to do that? I’m paying attention to how others react, and the EoT is not unifying the student body.”

She did not speak to @Johnny Sack specific question.

As I boasted, because it makes me so proud, she’s busting her ass studying, and not out protesting. Back in high school, though, she was quite vocal about changing the school song. And it was changed. From “Dixie” to “Oh, Wisconsin(!)”

The vast majority of students have no problem with it.  It's a small faction trying to get their way just because.  They don't care about the actual history, the report, etc.  They are saying it's racist and so it must stop, regardless of actual facts.

  16. If I find myself offended by something, or just don't like something, I tend to stay clear of it.  Guess I'm doing it wrong and should just sue and force them to change to my liking?

Do all of these offended people attend sporting events and lament every time the song is played?  I seriously doubt it.

Besides overhead clearance, that seems like a prime responsibility of those escort teams.

Never done it and don't know their regs, but would seem to be some of the most fundamental shit there.

Someone screwed up on the route.  They never come 183 and make the turn.  They always come up Hwy 80 from I-10 and have a straight shot over the tracks.
