I have a relative who lives off of La Cienaga and Olympic.  They have a really nice garage apartment that we stay in every time we are in LA.  They don’t list it on the vacation websites, but they are not against free money.  I could ask.

Thanks for that. I am still checking other possibilities, but might be interested. I’ll pm if we want to go that direction.

Shocked that everything close is booked or outrageously priced the week of the US Open.  That golf course is surrounded by some of the most expensive real estate in the country.  The Playboy Mansion  is behind one of the greens.  It’s outrageous there when the US Open isn’t being played next door to Beverly Hills.  It’s gonna be expensive or you’re gonna spend some time in a car every day.  What’s your hopeful budget per day?

I know I’m not going to find anything “close”. The traffic/commute information that has been posted is helpful though.

Looking at under $700/night. We’ll figure something out. Probably spend some time in traffic.

One thing to keep in mind if you decide to stay at the Roosevelt is that even though you'll only be 5 or 6 miles from the LA Country Club as the crow flies, it will take probably anywhere between 25 to 45 minutes (depending on the time of day) to drive to the LACC from the hotel because traffic will be bad.  Sunset Blvd. and Santa Monica Blvd., which are the two main arteries running between Hollyweird and Beverly Hills, both get backed up, esp. during rush hours.

Yeah, I need to check the Vrbo market because everything that’s close to LA CC is mostly booked or outrageously priced.

What about going south of LA CC, is that bad traffic/area?

And your info (bad traffic, etc…)is what I need, because I have no idea…

SLS Beverly Hills has a fantastic rooftop pool.  Some girlfriends and I had a great weekend there back in 2016.

I also stayed at Andaz WEHO which was pretty good as well.

Have hung out at the Tropicana and the Library Bar at the Roosevelt.  Never stayed there, but think the pool rooms might be pretty nice.

Thinking about booking the Roosevelt.  Most of the other suggestions that have been given are either already booked or +$1,000/night.  I haven't checked the vrbo market yet. Should probably do that before I decide anything.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions and help.  If you have any more please respond.

  5. We are going to the US Open golf tournament, being played at LA Country Club in June. Anyone have any suggestions on places to stay relatively close to that area? Or maybe better yet, places not to stay.

That's interesting. I felt like that was SKT's weakness. I never felt like she did a good job of covering the court. Not compared to other elite setters.

What she did a great job with is handling in system balls really well. Her back sets were terrific, whether to Phillips or O'Neal. Obviously you go to Eggleston and Skinner primarily, but given how talented those two were, I felt like she did a good job of spreading the ball around. Couldn't ever seem to get Caffey going like Caffey did at Nebraska, but that's okay. Heck, Nebraska did an abominable job getting their middles going this year, so it's not like she missed out in any way.

Also, SKT wasn't a liability in the front court. That was particularly important versus San Diego, where they had Edwards going after her every time she had her front row rotation, just like Texas went after Blossom.

I also don't think she was particularly great in defense, although she was serviceable.

I felt like she had a really good serve at times, and then at other times it felt like it was dialed back, either by the staff or her. She had an abominable "passing against" number versus Louisville. A 2.56. Might as well have served it underhand. Literally.

Overall I absolutely feel like she was a key to the championship. That's obvious. I'm glad she got Honorable mention honors as a setter, but I honestly felt like she deserved at least 3rd team AA recognition. I'm grateful we had her. No offense to Jhenna Gabriel, who I loved, but I still have nightmares of Stumler going over her 5'6 block at the net over and over again in the championship match versus Kentucky.

From my perspective, one of the most improved aspects for this team was the ability to score out of system.  I felt like a lot of that was attributable to SKT's ability to put up solid sets in those situations.  Obviously it helps to have hitters like Logan and Madi to make you look good.

I guess my main frame of reference is what I've seen the last several years from UT and their opponents. I just thought SKT did a much better job of giving our hitters a chance compared to what we saw from Gabriel or Shook (not saying much, I know).  You have probably watched a lot of other teams play and have a better feel than I do.

If you are a setter on a top ten team you better be able to set well in system, not sure you're playing if you don't.

I’ve said as much it will be:

    OH Skinner

OH Byrd/Helmers/Parra/transfer (whoever separates if Texas does not get a 6 rotation OH from the portal)

    MB1 O’Neal

MB2 Singletary/Bergmark (Singletary has gotten a lot of praise towards the end of the season on her progression in the practice gym and our RS FR MB tend to be quite good as we redshirt them as a practice)

    RS Phillips/Devin K

    S Swindle

    L Barnes

    DS Halter/Akana

I think the biggest question mark will be at setter.  SKT did a great job covering the court and putting up out of system balls where the hitters could get a swing.

The front row should still be very strong.

Of course losing Fleck will be huge, she isn't replaceable just like Logan.  Halter is going to be a demon.  With a NC under her belt and the added confidence, I think she just keeps getting better and better. Add in the transfer Barnes (whom admittedly I don't know much about) and maybe the back row doesn't drop off too much.

Ignoring and making others pay for and clean up the negative externalities of their industry is central to the O&G value chain. There's a reason why there's millions of dead, improperly capped wells just blasting H2SO and methane into the air and poisoning the land. They ain't gonna do dick about it or clean up after themselves, it would hurt their margins and set a bad precedent of cleaning up after themselves

Millions, blasting ?? Hyperbole much... H2SO? Sulfuric acid?? Okay.

There's multiple disposal wells owned by different companies in the area of that earthquake. I don't know how you can tell which one/ones are responsible.  However, I guess you could try suing all of them. Wouldn't be surprised if something like that happens.

  9. I hope Texas dominates, but Louisville is going to be tough.  Louisville has a lot of really good athletes up front that will give Texas some trouble, especially their block.

We have to recognize their back row attacks and get a solid block up. I would love to see us give them some of their own medicine and have Madi and Logan attack them a bunch from the back row.

The key is probably our ability to serve tough without too many service errors. Keep pressure on their serve receive.  Their back row defense is good but I think Texas's is better.

Definitely need to start faster, don't want to drop the first set and give them momentum. They recovered well against SD but hate to play with fire.

  10. I saw Randi coach several times back when she was the head volleyball coach at Wolfforth Frenship high school in Lubbock.  At some point I found out she was dating Beard when he was coaching at Tech.

Based on my observations and things I heard, those two are a lot alike, volatile, intense, and fiery. I kinda thought at the time that they would make an "interesting" couple.

Unfortunately, it doesn't surprise me that shit could go sideways with those two, especially if alcohol was involved, and at that time of night, probably a pretty good chance.

She was the worst passer last night per VolleyMetrics. She passed a 1.6 (30% good pass) on her serve receive. Yuck. Logan was a 1.92 (33.3%). Fleck was good as always (2.3, 66.7%) and Halter was our best passer all night (2.46, 72.7%)

2.3-2.4 is a good passing number. Fleck was good, Halter was really good

Opponents are going to target Akana and Skinner(already have been) on serve receive. They better figure out a way to clean that up. I’m not sure Akana’s serving is good enough for the trade off. I guess we’ll find out.

Their out of system setting/hitting was off last night for some stretches. Way too many tips. That will have to be better to win the next two.

I like our chances against SD, we’ll see after that.

  12. I thought Asjia was a little off yesterday. Especially with her slide.  I think it may have gotten in her head a little bit.  She did get the last kill of the match so hopefully she got all that out of her system.
