They’re canning Violet is the coming week.

Done now. Picked up a case in the taproom this afternoon. Small batch of helles lager and a hef on the wall too, though not sure if they’re actually on the board. They were tasty.

    Awesome.

Sounds like something that needs to be banned until they find a more secure mode of delivery to the customer. It'll be self-banned anyway, eventually, once they get the bejeezus sued out of 'em.

i don't know the details, but a coworker from denver said that is pretty much what happened there - banned until they tightened it up, then re-entered market.

  3. that sounds like it would have a horrendous consistency.  plus, it's just sweet tofurkey, right?

that said, i saw a tim love deal on grilled watermelon and did it alongside some grilled chicken and sausage, and it was pretty damn good.  1.5-2" slices, cut into wedges, grilled a few minutes to get some char.  serve topped with chili powder, kosher salt, and some lemon juice.  was a nice change to the boilerplate summer grill dinner.  had that stuff with a nice, tart gose.

  4. bozo casanova and i were doing some drinking in lincoln, ne last night and a bartender poured some japanese gin (kyoto ki no bi) 3:1 with a splash of orange bitters dressed like a gibson (olive & onion). it was outstanding.

in austin, I’ve gone to small victory a few times recently and they mixed me a similar 3:1 but added celery bitters and that may be my favorite take on a martini at the moment.

I’m going to be in Boston-Portland-Lake Winnipesaukee next week.

Any suggestions on breweries/pubs to visit or beers to try/bring home?

    Stowe is too far away.

If you’re in Portland, Bissell Brothers and Maine Beer Company for sure.

This pulled up by me. I love these.3f02abca67497648c595b41baec3cfd1.jpg

Love those old Jags. They always remind me of the hearse in Harold & Maude.

Along those lines, my dream vintage is a mid/late-60s Mercedes 230 or 280 SL convertible. Those things are just beautiful.

question for Ford guys:  I guy I know rolled up in a '77 Bronco this weekend.  It was nice, but not crazy nice.  Anyway, according to the fender emblem, it was a 289.  I had a '67 Mustang, and it's my recollection that Mustangs went 302 in '68.   Did the truck side stick with the 289?

302, and they did not have the engine badge (302 or otherwise) in 1977.

i've heard good things about courtyard.

A friend of mine had a keg of Courtyard (and a keg of Other Half) at his wedding in New Orleans in April. Was very good stuff.

  9. I've had a 3 reservation since 4/1/16 and just canceled it.  The "just bear with us" mantra was growing tiresome plus, I figured by the time I got the vehicle configured to my liking, it would end up waaaay over the "approachable electric vehicle" pricing that drew me in in the first place.

  10. Pumping again, friend of the program, but I just finished a crowler at home and thoroughly enjoyed it. Also did a crowler of the 2.6% peach Berliner a couple days ago and it’s a damn fine summer beer

  11. I used to use the Thomas Keller recipe all the time, great stuff. A couple of years ago today I changed it up and have a new whole chicken go-to recipe - essentially an indoor cast iron version of chicken under a brick.

Take a 4-5 lb chicken and butterfly it (shear out the backbone, trim wing tips, then really press it flat to break the joints). As an aside, I keep all of my chicken bones/parts in a freezer bag then run it through the pressure cooker with vegetable scraps to make stock. Pat the chicken completely dry with paper towels. Put a little vegetable oil in your palm and rub all over the chicken, making sure you cover the skin. Mix 1 tsp kosher salt, 1 tsp ground coriander, and 1/2 tsp black pepper together and rub over chicken.

Preheat oven to 400 with cast iron in it. Remove cast iron and put over med-high heat on stove and add a very small amount of vegetable oil (just enough to get it started, the chicken fat will render while cooking). Put chicken skin side down in pan and place another cast iron or heavy pot on top to weigh it down flat and cook for 5 minutes to char the skin. Flip it over to skin side up and move to oven for 45-50 minutes. Allow to rest for 10 minutes or so before quartering.

Following that, I usually wipe out the majority of the rendered fat but leave a small amount and sauté sliced zucchini with a little garlic salt. DAF567_A4_9_FCA_466_A_9_BBA_951388081_EA8_FACE4_F1_CD4_A_4263_8457_95_D578_FD14_

There was a newscast segment on Hi Sign hurting from the never ending road construction. Get out and support one of the breweries in town. Grab a Little Navigator. You won’t be disappointed.

Friend of the program, yadda yadda. Was out there on Sunday, new 3% wheat kettle sour was great and the BBQ truck in the back was outstanding and should be there for a while from what I was told (Courson’s). They had a “Texas wagyu” brisket available that basically melted, and the jalapeño cornbread waffles were a great side. And, one of the beers in the fermenter, as long as Instagram links work:

I would say most prog bands, Genesis, Yes, King Crimson, ELP, etc.  My wife does like Pink Floyd, that's the exception, and a couple of Rush songs, but I think most women have the attention span of a gnat, so anything over 3 or 4 minutes, forget it.

    So no Dream Theater?

  14. birdwells are the obvious answer (i too grew up in those and tiddies from the original pasadena/shaver rd shop).  they're $80 but should last.  i also wait for sales on the penguin bathing suits - they fit the length description you laid out, have a tie front (no elastic) and dry quickly.  i have 3 pair and i got all of them for less than $20-25 each.

I’ve seen NIN nine times and there have been a lot of chicks at every show.

those were just skinny goth guys.

i agree to a certain extent, i have seen them a couple of times and, in retrospect, there were plenty of a very specific type of girl at those shows.
