1. The MIL is migrating south to our house on Christmas Day. She asked us to send her a list of “sentimental gifts” she could get us. Complete bullshit. Just an attempt to not have to buy gifts for the holidays. Totally fine with that notion, just call it what it is. We got her “list” and it was the most over the top “sentimental” crap ever. “When you have time, and I know you are busy, I would like for you to clean out my closet”. “Sharing a meal and togetherness”.

2. Not the best picture, but this cheeseburger soup slammed hard.

1lb of ground beef

1/2 of chopped celery

1/2 cup of shaved carrots

1/2 cup of diced onion

2 cups of diced potatoes

3 cups of beef or chicken stock

2 cups of milk

Can of Cream of Mushroom

Can of cheese soup

12-16 oz of velvetta

splash of Worcestershire

salt

pepper

tony’s cajun seasoning.

cook beef and pull from pot. Add your celery, onion, and carrot. Sweat down. Add beef, broth, and potatoes. Bring to a boil for 10ish minutes. Add the cans of soup, velvetta, and milk. Combine. Add salt, pepper, Tony’s and Worcestershire to taste. Mine was a bit thin, so I added a corn starch slurry to thicken it up.

Easy and cheap. Tastes even better after a day or so.

today i went to Yvonne Adams’ (former all conference hooper at A&M, Aggie Athlete of the Year, and mother of KJ Adams) funeral today and coach self and his entire staff were there. as i was leaving, coach self happened to walk around the corner to where it was just us two so i extended my hand and said, “i really appreciate you guys (the KU coaching staff) coming here today, it means a lot.”

long story short, he stopped walking, asked me my name, and chatted me up for more than a minute. we talked about everything from his time at oral roberts to how special kj’s performance was vs uconn considering he was about to jump on a red eye to head to his wonderful, special mother’s funeral and burial.

i can’t lie, it has been wildly strange to be such a huge ku fan these last couple of years with KJ there, but everything i’ve seen from KU, their program, and staff makes me feel like KU is a place where i would want to send my son. i’ll continue to root for ku as long as kj is there, after which it’s all the way back to fuck them. still, from my trip to lawrence to my experience today, i’ll always have a soft spot for KU and Coach Self with the way they’ve truly taken care of KJ and fostered his growth as a young man. i can’t help it anymore- im a fan.

Bill is a super nice dude. Have known him for quite a while. I’m a big KJ Adams fan the rest of the year. I’m sure the basketball court is a nice distraction.

ocugolf is MAGA uncle the one that connects y'all to the cousin that used to filter TFG’s social media?

When I went to bed last night, my wife, DIL, and daughter were shooting tequila and singing Alanis Morisette at the top of their lungs. Went downstairs to get a cup of coffee this morning and the kitchen looks like a war zone. But nothing approaching the damage I did when I was 23.

I'm grateful they all have fantastic singing voices though.

Last hurrah before deployment, which is looming on the horizon.

I want to move to Pinehurst.

Different side of the family. Unfortunately, the former and current president’s have adamant supporters on both mine and my wife’s side. I guess that’s what makes this thread tick.

6. If you ever have to be in Ada, Oklahoma, Folger’s Drive In has been around since like 1920 and is unbelievable.

The girlfriend bought me a Le Creuset Cassadou for my birthday a few weeks ago, and I’ve been dying to break it in, so tonight was braised short ribs.

first, the pan..

Now on to the meal. First the mise en place

IMG_5483.thumb.jpeg.37c910d1a56c82c9a782bd6b617c2a28.jpeg

sear off the short ribs (these are the boneless ones from H-E-B, which I think is actually chuck roast)

once you get a nice crust on your meat, set aside and add your mirepoix and aromatics and soften the veggies…IMG_5485.thumb.jpeg.fdbaf66531ad20031330e52ef945dab5.jpeg

once they soften a bit, add two tablespoons on tomato paste and mix well with the veggies

then deglaze the pan with 2 cups of decent red wine. (I used a cab from Constantino winery) and two cups of beef stock. I let it boil a few minutes to cook off some of the alcohol, scrape the bottom well to get all the fond from the bottom of the pan, and add the short ribs

8. Journey time again tomorrow. Intentions are being comfortable in my own skin, not keeping score, and not being affected by perceived expectations of others. Will be my last MDMA journey for a while. Will do ketamine or mushrooms next time. Glad I will have a weekend to recover. Excited to see where the medicine takes me tomorrow.

9. Pound and a half of boneless skinless chicken thighs. Mixed a cup of flour with some cornstarch, added some pepper and Cajun seasoning. Dredged the chicken thighs in that. Heated up some avocado oil. Cooked the chicken and pulled it.

Sauce:

soy, ginger, chili oil (or any hot sauce), garlic, rice wine vinegar, sesame oil, and honey.

Portion out the squash and broccoli and cook in the same pan. Add 1/4 of the sauce. Once vegetables are cooked add the chicken and the rest of the sauce with the vegetables. Stir and let reduce. Cook some brown rice. Put the rice on the plate, top with chicken and vegetables. Add sesame seeds. Shovel into mouth. It’s pretty simple and really good.

10. Chet’s box score tonight was simply ridiculous for a rookies second game. I was also wildly impressed with Cason Wallace. Thought it was a reach at draft time but once again Presti is way smarter than me.

11. I’ve played for 20 years and have never had this happen to me. Through 7 weeks, we’ve played the team that scored the most points that week 5 times. Opposing teams have scored 120 more points against us than any other team. So fun.

12. Are we better without Kane up top? Seems like we are moving the ball much better around the box because we don’t have a singular target to force the ball to.

or more likely it’s Ange is outright awesome and plays a much more effective style of play that fits our players. I’m sure Kane would still be awesome, but I’m excited to see what we do with the 100 million we got for him. Go get 2-3 guys that fits Ange’s style at the winter window and this team could be scary scary good.

Adopt

I wish it were that simple. If and when we have exhausted all other options, we will definitely consider. I can’t in my right mind tell my wife that we can’t produce our own without trying.  The thought of not having our own sends the wife into a tailspin. And that is nothing to say about people that adopt. They are doing the lords work. That’s an amazing gift you are giving a little one.
