Blowing it up on social media is the only reason he would even be heard.

Again, anyone here calling a world-class athlete "chickenshit" is just telling on himself. Chuba has more moral and physical courage in his toes than his critics here have in their entire bodies.

This. People are perfectly happy to hear out differing opinions and criticisms, as long as it doesn't make them uncomfortable, doesn't make them question something that they believe, doesn't make them look bad publicly, or doesn't involve a flag. Other than that, go nuts.

I personally think Chuba should have just screamed his thoughts into a pillow and gone back to studying Gundy's playbook.

Oh sad, the people whining about cancel culture getting those who disagree with the "mob" will find no joy in this.

    Pancho beat me to it.

That's right. Scary cancel culture spins out of control and causes...a conversation between the coach and his players where they are allowed to express their frustrations and they record an awkward video where the player apologizes but the coach doesn't.

Running back roster from 2016 (scholarship only):

    Tristan Houston
    Kyle Porter
    D'Onta Foreman
    Chris Warren
    Kirk Johnson
    Roderick Bernard

Running back roster for 2020 (scholarship only):

    Jordan Whittington
    Roshon Johnson
    Keaontay Ingram
    Daniel Young
    Bijon Robinson
Kelvontay Dixon (ATH - but throwing him in here)
Derrian Brown (working his way back)

I'd say we have an upgrade.

Crazy to say about a position group with a Doak Walker winner but looks like an upgrade to me as well. Lots of JAGs in that '16 room after you get past Foreman.

I had completely forgotten about Dixon, the assumption is that he ends up in the slot right? Really happy he ended up in the class, he is really good. With the way WR recruiting is going right now he is even more important.

  4. One thing I don't think has been mentioned yet, I really wonder what if anything Ehlinger is going to say. He didn't post the letter on Twitter today.

Sam probably feels the same way about The Eyes many of us do. He grew watching games with his dad, presumably staying until the end and singing it. He worked his way to be the starting quarterback for the University of Texas and I know singing that song on the field with his teammates means something to him. I understand the emotional attachment he may have to it, I have it too.

He is going to be in a really tough spot with his teammates now. He's been vocal about advocating for BLM recently but this is sort of where the rubber meets the road for him. I hope and trust he'll be able to hear his teammates out. And maybe, he'll be able to articulate just why so many fans and former teammates feel so strongly about a song.

I am really sorry everyone, but I still remember a few months ago. When people were not intimidated and afraid to even speak. What a bunch of scared little ladies we've become. So a few spoiled athletes with a free ride through college are digging around, just trying to find something to be offended about? You mean that same bunch of kids that quit on us last year? The group that watched the Big 12 Championship on TV? They are throwing down ultimatums? Well, don't let the door hit you in the ass. What a bunch of ingrates. I would rather watch a bunch of 2 star walk-ons that at least give the game everything they have. BTW, there is nothing wrong with the school song. That's really a stretch. By that standard just about everything is racist. I say piss on their demands.

texags may be more your speed

See you throw all that out and none of those things are being talked about by the athletes. But we couldn't or shouldn't do anything because something else might happen seems like a great plan.

Exactly. We have an actual list of what the athletes are asking for but instead of you know, engaging with that lets just burn the campus to the ground. What's the point of having anything if I can't have things exactly my way.

By the way, they aren't even threatening to boycott the season or quit the team or anything. Just to not participate in donor bullshit and recruiting. The entitlement some of our fans have over the team is staggering.

What's next the Star Spangled Banner?  The country was founded on slavery and that song didnt include slaves as being free.  So what, let's shut down the whole country and most of its traditions?  Some things go too far and are fucking stupid.  I'm all for speaking against social injustices and support those causes, today.  But The Eyes of Texas and not singing the song imo isn't one of them and is fucking stupid.  I suppose if you don't want to sing it than fine don't make them, but fuck you if you want to replace it.   Sorry but i've never paid much attention to the opinion of most  18-25 year olds.  This request is one reason why.

No you don't. You think it's fucking stupid to consider not singing a song in support or solidarity. You straight up say you don't pay attention to the opinion of most 18-25 year olds.

I mean I watch football for entertainment. I don’t give a shit about their voices or value as people. I don’t know any of these people personally So why would I care? I care about the people I know and care about. If you say otherwise then you’re just a self-righteous person who in my estimation is full of shit.

    And there we have it.

If the Eyes had racists lyrics, I could understand and support. But just because it used to be performed in minstrel shows? Fuck that. It is no longer performed in minstrel shows. The song wasnt the racist part. It was the minstrel show. The required change has been made. I support educating people on its origins but we can't take something that is not racist on its own and then take its origin out of context, apply today's morals and norms, and condemn it. There is not a racist word in the Eyes. It doesnt have a racist meaning. It is a unifying message for ALL Texans. The origin is important to know and understand but is in no way shape or form associated with or related to the current version, meaning, or performance of the song.

Except is wasn't just a song that happened to be performed at minstrel shows. From my understanding the song was literally written for a minstrel show. It's a song written to be performed by racist white people in exaggerated blackface with the specific goal of intimidating and demeaning blacks.

Well, it's not. I don't know how to say it any clearer that it's just an honest observation, that if you're finding out just how racist everything around you is at this university you love and are playing for, you're gunna have to change a whole helluva lot. That's it. Not a who's right or wrong, just...what it is I dunno

Maybe finding out how racist everything around you is at the university you love and making real efforts to change is...i dunno, clearly right?

So as much as I hate trying to dive into the true intentions of a subtweet...are we thinking this is Josh saying the team will be fine without him or is he saying his teammates talked Cook into staying?

    Either way I believe him.

  12. Shit. He did seem most likely to be the odd man out based on most write ups I’ve seen but without spring practice or summer practices opening up yet it’s not like there is a depth chart or anything.

Good luck to him, we’ll be ok in the secondary with a little injury luck. Adimora has made more plays with fewer opportunities.

  13. I don’t think anyone is saying it’s racist to stand up for the anthem. What Drew needed to apologize for what being so insular in his thinking or so indifferent to the concerns of his teammates that he made zero effort to understand what the protest even was.

Nate Boyer wrote this almost four years ago. No excuse for Brees to say what he did now, especially with all that’s going on. It doesn’t make him racist, but it at least shows him to be some combination of selfish/clueless.

  14. There is the apology many were looking for initially. I’m trying to not be cynical and believe he really has made the effort to listen and open his mind the last few days.

The “To President Trump” picture is hilarious though.

I would be VERY surprised if he’s still NBC’s color commentator for Sunday night football when he retires. Not saying that’s the only gig he’ll ever get, but I’d be surprised if they moved forward with that knowing what they know now. I could be wrong though. He did have that job all but locked up before all of this, right?

Maybe he loses a broadcast gig from it but I'd be surprised if this was the reason he isn't hired. All it took was 24 hours and a half-assed apology that amounted to "I'm sorry if you were offended" and basically all his teammates are publicly letting him off the hook. Give this thing a few years and it will be barely a footnote on his bio.

Not really relevant, but the assumption was that he would go directly to the Sunday Prime Time spot as soon as he retires? He never struck me as having the personality that Romo does, I feel like he'd be very boring in the booth.

I don't get this. What is Brees going to lose exactly? He didn't lose his job with the Saints, still has his family, friends, millions from his playing career. He lost some of his "great guy" shine and the trust of teammates. That kind of thing happens when you say something stupid and insensitive. The response seems in fair relation to his fuck-up to me. And if he plays well and keeps from saying anything else stupid it will mostly be forgotten. I assume Drew's vet grandfathers taught him a man is accountable for his actions.

The "cancel culture" that people wring their hands over is really just getting made fun of online for 48 hours. The only way to truly be "cancelled" in a way that sticks seems to be to sexually assault dozens of women. And sometimes not even then.

Not counting honoring Tommy Nobis, Doak Walker or Britt Hager, what other star Texas players have worn 2 or more numbers like Ricky while at Texas??

(Maybe Earl Campbell -- not sure??)

This may open up the Pandora's box of arguing whether Chris Simms was a star player, but he wore 3 numbers  - 1, 2, and 8.

Ramonce Taylor changed from 25 to 11 between his fresh and sophomore year I think.

Most foolish roughing the punter penalty ever.

Oh god that's right. The with the way Major was moving the ball after coming in you have to think we go score and win that game without it.

In retrospect, it sure would be nice to have anther Big12 title and have gotten to play for a national championship. We would have gotten absolutely boat raced by that Miami team though. A really fun Holiday Bowl win against Washington turned out to be a nice consultation prize.

That game reminds me of another couple guys on the topic, Jerramy Stevens and Reggie Williams were both really good on that team. Both first rounds picks I think.

I don't think the Pac 12 will play at all.

I think the SEC and Big 12 will play in full.  Probably w/out crowds in much of the Big 12, at least to start.  The SEC will be unrestricted.

The Big 10 and ACC will have a mix of schools that play and those that sit.  In the Big 10, everyone west of the Appalachians save Northwestern will probably play.  The ACC is harder for me to gauge.

I think this process will firmly remove the Pac 12 from the same tier as the other P5 conferences, if they aren't already.

This seems right to me but it opens up so many questions. What happens with eligibility for players at schools that don't play? They are all automatically granted an additional year so they have 6 years to play 4? Will there be more transfer waivers granted for players that want to move to a school that is actually going to play football this year? What the hell would that look like if the SEC and Big12 are allowed to pillage every school in the West's best players?

Goes without saying this is going to be a mess all around and the NCAA is completely worthless to help.

saw them at red rocks in 2016.  it was incredible.

go easy on the edibles pre-show though.

I was at that Red Rocks show too, one of the best concert experiences of my life. Saw LCD Soundsystem there two days later which was also great, but I was surprised that the National show was better. Great band.
