My pops is from AP as well! Definitely felt like walking through a swimming pool every time we visited. The couple of times I’ve been to the Amazon, it at least was somewhat breezy. South India is just weirdly sticky with dead air.

Mumbai is sticky too. Most of Indian peninsula is sort of like that. That's why the Brits developed the "hill station" concept all over  the place, to escape the heat by going into the mountains wherever possible.

I still absolutely hate Houston area for its almost year-round humidity, with July/August being super stifling. Philly is muggy too but just not to the same level. Plus, we get to enjoy at least 4 distinct seasons throughout the year, which is actually a nice feel once you get used to it.

I was here for work and decided I wanted to be a fucking regard and marry a local. Long story short, the bitch cheated on me with my son's scout master, we got divorced, and I'm stuck here at least until my 8 yr old turns 18.

At least the scenery is nice this time of year.

    That sucks.

But agree that spring and fall are amazing here... PA is underrated for that. And winters, at least in southeastern part of the state, have become quite mild now (climate change is here). Summers are swampy though, but that's true for most east coast.

Great.  Yes, engineering is good at aggy.  As is vet science and chicken plucking.

But you didn't address my point.  Comparing aggy to Vandy as a university is flat out dishonest.

Again, are we really seriously discussing football recruits comparing entire universities' general academic standing? Or do they compare football coaches, football facilities, their position coach, etc? Even the ones that are into academics, they tend to look at a college or department's standing. And even then, I imagine variables such as proximity to home, urban/rural/suburban setup, and about a dozen others come into play.

There is no pushback from me on the basic facts: Vandy is a top, private academic institution, not just in the SEC but across the country. Heck, it's probably better regarded than Baylor and TCU combined, I imagine.

At the end of the day, academic standing is likely just one variable in most recruits' school choice. And Texas A&M has a generally good reputation (which is really what US News rankings are based off of), even despite its shitty campus architecture, its history of being a small military, male-only college, etc etc.

The mountains can fuck right the fuck off. I live in PA coal country mountains and I absolutely fucking hate it here. I would gladly sell one of my testicles on the black market to be able to move back to the gulf coast of Texas.

jesus. even most locals who can leave do so. What brought you to PA coal country?

Only a few places are doing well or holding steady and steadily growing (the Texas style growth boom happened in PA a long time ago already); Philly area, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg area, and Lehigh Valley (partly due to closeness to NYC, and also of course due to the lovely Poconos). PA has tons of small towns and most of those are slowly leaking population, just like I imagine it being the case in NYS, Ohio, etc.

Mid-atlantic is nice but gulf coast Texas isn't for me after living there for 15 years. I do miss the tax-free state, and more libertarian attitude. PA is a mire of ugly politics, especially in the cities.

    Not for very fucking long.

eh, as if most football players are going to even notice for a moment that UT is ranked (by one fucking magazine no less; other ratings and rankings show different outcomes, if people want to play that game) #38-- alongside UC Davis and Georgia Tech no less!-- while A&M is ranked #68. If academics were such an important criteria for these fellows, I bet Rice would have top ranked recruiting classes without breaking a sweat, considering that it's ranked #17, right alongside Cornell.

But hey, maybe UT boosters will keep pushing the "playing school" angle on these recruits. :D

While technically true, creating a "top 4" with these rankings and lumping aggy in with Vandy is disinginous to put it kindly.  In addition, aggy is increasingly becoming a diploma mill.

    Nationally ranked universities:

    • #14 Vandy
    • #28 Florida
    • #48 Georgia
    • #68 aggy

    "academic smack not going away"

11th best engineering school (one spot higher than UT) and the best among the SEC.

  7. I see that "playing school" salient simply went over you guys' academic big head. Or, you just enjoy academic talk and nobody will come by to mention how "academic talk is not going away".

It was a simple point that A&M isn't a bottom feeder on academics, and besides, the most top flight football players who are even considering the choice of SEC schools aren't going to select Vandy, because "academics!".

Besides, my point still stands: A&M is a top-4 academic school in the SEC. Which would make it right in the same quartile as Florida, Georgia, and yes, Vandy. And in several academic disciplines, A&M is second to none in the SEC.

    Gerry - Jmond Tapp

When in search of the best person to talk to about Texas Longhorns commit J’Mond Tapp, there is not better source than his position coach.

Ascension Catholic’s first year defensive line coach Delmond Landry also happens to be Tapp’s brother. Landry is a former two-sport standout at Ascension Catholic, and was a starring defensive tackle at Southern Mississippi.

That made the decision to talk to Landry about the No. 175 ranked prospect in the country an easy one.

“It hasn’t been to tough coaching him,” Landry laughingly told On3. “He’s actually always come back to me asking me questions when I was playing college. On Sundays when I was off, I would go back and watch his film. It’s a new thing, but I have always been trying to teach him things I was being taught as a college player.”

There is one important message Landry is working to convey to his little brother. And that is the every snap mentality Tapp will need at the next level.

“Staying low, keeping that pad level where it needs to be and just having that mentality. What I’m trying to get strong in his mind is that mentality. That man across from you is trying to whoop you, so you have to have that certain mentality and use your technique. Coaches are going to help you technique, and he has the God given talent that can be developed.”

Should Tapp adopt the every snap mentality required at the next level, Landry believes his brother has the talent to be a difference maker.

“Star in the making, honestly. A different type of defensive lineman. He’s honestly the quickest defensive lineman I have seen in this state getting off the ball. He’s got everything naturally. Scrappy has just been out there playing naturally when he was younger in high school, and he had the gifts.”

When it comes to Tapp’s recruitment, Landry was not surprised he picked Texas.

“Honestly, I mean everything. He’s always said Texas was one of his dream schools. Growing up, he always did like Texas. As soon as he got that Texas offer, I figured he may lean that way. He decided that is where he wanted to be, and I wasn’t surprised.”

Landry sees a huge opportunity for Tapp at Texas.

“Honestly, I do feel like he will come into to Texas and have an impact. As long as he is coachable, sky is the limit for him. Texas needs some good edge guys, and he has the chance to be that.”

dang, didn't realize you guys have 8 guys on DL already committed, plus going for at least one more. I guess guys on campus aren't as good and are portaling. Looks like from the list, A&M was interested in Bledsoe the most, and also in Bryant.  I remember someone here making fun of A&M's early interest and offer to Bledsoe last year when he was an unknown. "Bread" might have been used as a descriptor. He might be the most important cog in your DL class, after being considered an OU lean. Congrats on landing him!

If you haven’t noticed, your coaching staff has quite an affinity for safeties and doesn’t seem to be able to grasp what a cornerback is.

doesn't help that the DC is a safeties specialist and will be sending some to the NFL, while the cornerback room has been filled with spares. But TJ Rushing seems to be doing better with the talent, and scouting for a different/better talent, plus got an ex-NFL corner to come be a position assistant coach too. Let's see how far that develops. It's just a head scratcher that Jimbo/Elko seem to be doubling down on Denver Harris who hasn't shown as much interest, while they go slow on a top-15 caliber corner in Humphrey who felt jilted enough to include A&M's logo in his commitment video to Florida, but who nonetheless comes back to campus on unofficials. I would take his talent if he still wants in. I doubt he would want in, in January, after Denver signs with Bama or UT.

  10. Another DL from Philly wanted in last year but we were seeking higher rated talent and that guy ended up going to Ole Miss, I think. That's why Enai White to Ole Miss was an early buzz. But A&M also landed a corner from Philly, who is already playing a lot and doing well in his freshman year. White was there to take in the atmosphere of the Bama game, and he has been to his top programs already on officials but not yet to A&M, even though he came by for unofficial over the summer.

Elijah Robinson is an ace recruiter, Elko is a good DC with track record of taking A&M from bad to better to good on D as a whole. Jimbo is a good closer.  Jimbo also got *several* of UGA's assistants over the last two years, especially so at the start of this year.  Jimbo can also point to several players drafted into the NFL already, plus more on the way, including potential first rounders. And not every 18 year old wants big city lights. As for academics-- even if you seriously think these top flight talents are "playing school" then A&M is easily in the top 4 of the SEC right alongside UGa, Florida, and Vandy.

If it's all just about money bags then we would have landed Dindy. But he has personal connections at OU, and those won out. Kendal Daniels, the top player out of Oklahoma and #5 safety last year committed to A&M, only to decommit after his position coach (Aristide) was poached by Miami.  You guys got some good talent when you had some ace young recruit/bagmen in Mensa's regime too.

  11. That safety/corner distribution seems off. Already landed 3 DBs, of whom 2 are safety (Kerr and Anderson) and the third may be better off at safety going by his highlight reel (Taylor), since it seems he might cause more PI penalties playing at corner. Even so, Jimbo wants to wave off a highly rated corner (Humphrey) who wants to commit, so that he can get another safety prospect (Mathews), then say won't have room for Humphrey. Sure hope Bouie is good at corner, and would be even better if M G-K also joins but that seems highly unlikely, as does getting Denver Harris. I'd rather take a sure thing corner in high 4-star Humphrey, if he wants in, which if obviously does.

  12. Our OL coach's name is Josh Henson. Turner who?

And aside from Foster on the 2-deep and potential to start at Center, there is no other true freshman who will start. Fatheree is a redshirt freshman. Certainly most of the guys on 2-deep don't have much if any real game experience, but most of them have been on campus, have the body, and coaches seem to like what they see. I guess we will find out shortly-- just as we will with Mizzou/Drinkwitz and Ole Miss/Joey Freshwater.

Some mangled sentence structure there. Ingerish, do you write Ingerish?

(that's directed at "wreckingcrew44" lest some of you jump on me)
"...and said some I didn't even mention. He didn't share those names..."

So, did the 'cruit tell you some names you/Texags aren't yet excited about, or didn't he?

I guess the reader must surmise that the recruit mentioned, without prompting, some other highly ranked names that are projected (by the recruit) to be in the class, but didn't give the names of said highly ranked recruits.

Also why the fuck would you come to a Longhorns message board for updates on aggy recruiting?

because it's nice to get the good news on recruiting from your rivals who squirm :D... and it's all free!  Point me to an aggie free site and I might go, although again, I found texags to be tiresome too, and not really as much updated recruiting info as here; plus, I like more than talking in an echo chamber.  Better entertainment here. The entertainment value does have diminishing returns here (due to the same hackneyed "insults") , so I dip in and post on rare occasions, but it's often just enough to read the stuff here written in burnt orange ink, :D no need to interact.

Lol.  We all like our own teams.  And most enjoy talking some shit about others.  Just trying to give you my thoughts on Banks and Joseph.  I have similar feelings about Dameyune Craig now.  Can't close on big targets.

The same sort of demented hazing of the few Ags that post here, who have shown to be independent-minded... it just gets old after a while. I stopped posting here because of the same stupid comebacks by these people. Give some fresh conversation, I'm here. Otherwise I'm mostly happy to read the put downs among themselves and the (off late) rarer updates on A&M recruiting... (Satya and some others used to be really good with bringing the free stuff from the 9.95ers but haven't been as active recently).
