Bottom line is that it was a bad draft pick.  They cut him to get the roster down to 80 on August 1.

Five other teams also took a chance on him, and quickly divested themselves of his fat ass.  Lots of stupid in the NFL, but for Mack the acronym is appropriate - Not For Long.

So do you put his current status on the foot of Sumlin and his corches? Or at A&M's football program writ large? The dude can't stay in shape, apparently.  Happens. Or you guys are still mad about him doing the whole #WRTS thing? At least he got some money from the Ravens. Maybe he can find a spot on a Canadian team, then come back to the NFL?

Among NFL DTs, looks like Kingsley Keke and Bobby Brown are on active rosters. And after next year's draft there will be at least one or two more.

From watching the White Lotus I understand the upside to this is potentially sexing up a high school girl with a massive rack and the downside is sticking your face between another man's ass cheeks. So experiences may vary and all that

what a fantastic show that is. the music is nuts! the best part is Alexandra Daddario.

to make this post about college recruiting and shit...  HBO just announced they're extending the show to another season but it'll be whole new cast, and even new location-- won't be in Hawaii. No points for guessing that it won't be set in College Station either and the storyline won't involve middle aged college football crazed men trying to get high school recruits to commit to their favorite college team by enticing them with all sorts of goodies (Alexandra Daddario in a new role? hmmm). ;):D

Leaving College Station early is never bad advice.

I thought you would have settled on never going to College Station in the first place. With shiny Austin doing so well and all... it's a miracle any player more than a 3-star even makes it to College Station and then manages to stay there a few years.  A&M should just roll up the campus and move it to Austin at this point.

You're being absolutely disingenuous by not disclosing the full story on Daylon Mack. To give him credit for a full NFL season is being generous.

Of course, you're aggy. You never lie, cheat, or steal but stretching the truth is okay.

wtf do i care about Daylon Mack's "full story"? I've had this conversation here with someone else in the past; schools/coaches should get credit for the players drafted... what they do beyond the draft, how their pro careers pan out is up to the players. There are far too many variables  when it comes to assigning blame/credit for any players. That's why these things tend to get talked about in the aggregate-- as a program, or as a coach's career history, etc. As a program, is there any doubt that UT has has more success than A&M in putting players in NFL?

But this is your board, so type whatever makes you feel happy and makes you feel better.

  5. well, good thing is if this Swedish fish comes to A&M, he won't be expected to start right away; he will have time to learn and get coached. They're probably looking for that "open to coaching" attribute in these prospects which do seem like quite a bit of a stretch...not like American schools are running out of good TE talent.

  6. Daylon Mack got drafted in 5th round by the Ravens. He was a 5-star out of high school but couldn't keep his weight off and was a 3rd down bull rush specialist in Sumlin's program.

Anthony Hines III was never a 5-star but a 4-star; he had a decent school career but was injured and missed time, then skipped the last year to get ready for the draft...went undrafted, is with the Cowboys. Someone gave him bad advice to skip school/leave early. Buddy Johnson was a lower-rated linebacker and yet got drafted in the 4th round by the Steelers in the last draft. I would say he got developed. How much depends on the players and how much on the corches to make the most of the talent and to sharpen it? Hines was likely also unlucky in having to start in his freshman year itself and there by suffering a shoulder injury needing an offseason surgery. Anytime you can redshirt a freshman and build that body up is likely a good sign.  The linebacers A&M will start this season aren't freshmen... Andre White and Antonio Doyle could possibly be future NFL draftees.

Hey if rivals can negative recruit our current staff on lack of OL development, then on the flipside we better be claiming Brandon Jones as an NFL success.

The way I see it, if a player gets drafted that's a feather in the cap of the school/program/corch. Brandon Jones went in third round-- great! If they flop or never amount to much in the League once drafted, that's not on the college, that's on them or the League. Even an average or JAG NFL-ers is likely a millionaire, no?

Not sure where UDFAs go in this setup... I'm lurching on the side of the players' own merit or grit getting in, with much less or no credit to the college. Argument can be made that they learned a work ethic and other soft skills in the college program, and maybe just didn't get drafted because of poor measurables which are immutable characteristics and not anything a college corch can do anything about and the NFL is too dumb sometime to have too much merit on the measureables. So...I guess some UDFAs can be credited to a college program.

Texas has had three safeties drafted in four years. Who knows who Anderson will pick but if that’s the line of reasoning to get him to aggy that’s not particularly compelling.

Yes, Tex-19 covered this, and more. He, in fact, credited the current Texas staff for the DBs that got drafted into NFL from A&M in the last 5 years too, credit your current DB coach.

  9. So you guys think there is no chance (fat chance, as opposed to Fat Ketch's chance of being right! hah) of Thompson picking Jimbo's pitch for a fast slot to stretch the field? Thompson sees a guy already on campus who he can pattern himself to, and Ainias Smith probably goes pro after this coming season if all goes as expected.

Bryce Anderson seems like UT's to lose, especially since he already has a cousin there; but he probably sees several safeties that got drafted from A&M in the last few years and sees at least one more going after this season (Demani Richardson), so there's a track record, and Elko coaches safeties.
