  1. Congrats to Bianca...but it's going to be a tough job to get out of the SEC cellar.
  2. Yeah that's complete b*****t. Joffe has won 5 out of the 6 last conference championships (regular and tournament) but doubt Joffe is losing sleep over this. Texas is actually shaping up to host the Sweet 16 thanks to USC and Washington having strong conference tournament and San Diego not making it to the finals of the West Coast Conference (Pepperdine will not gain any points from their conference tournament). Only thing that can stand in the way of hosting the Sweet 16 is if Ohio State makes a run and wins the Big 10 tournament.
  3. Sorry to burst that bubble...
  4. Just to let y'all know how tough Texas' schedule was: all but one team (UCF) are likely to qualify for the NCAA tournament Texas or TCU likely to share SMU, UTSA, and A&M Corpus Christi in their draws. Real question is how stingy the NCAA committee will be- will they send A&M to TCU or Texas to save transportation cost despite A&M being in the top 20?
  5. Right now SMU is ranked 32 so would be a 'low' 2 seed. Can see the NCAA committee easily sending them to College Station as A&M will be the second national seed. Also Baylor will more than certainly be sent to College Station too if they make the tournament. A&M Corpus Christi will be the four seed in either College Station or Austin. SEC will have 8-9 teams in the tournament, so good odds one of LSU, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, or Auburn gets sent to Austin. If Texas makes it to the round of 16, opponent will be one of Stanford, Pepperdine, or Duke. Hoping not Stanford- will depend on the Big 10 and West Coast Conference tournaments this weekend.
  6. Committee always seems to go straight off the computer rankings (unless the adjacent team has the winning H2H). Texas should mathematically keep the top position in the computer rankings.
  7. Joffe better win Coach of the Year- replacing half your team is no easy feat. He's also not won the award since 2018! Argument could be made for Khirin to win both Freshmen and Player of the Year
  8. Beginning to think Texas was going to choke; it was either the 6th or 7th match point at line 1 Really windy, will be interesting to see how much movement there'll be on Tsaiya's serve
  9. Spizziri absolutely smoked his returns (off the first serve too!) in that last game
  10. Zein posted about 'early retirement' so I guess Texas is down to six scholarship players Baylor currently on the bubble for the NCAAs. Have to wonder how warm the seat is for the BU coach. Baylor's domination seems like eons ago and are now fighting to stay in the upper half of the league. Significant drop off.
  11. TCU played without their top player today.
  12. WTA 250 is not like ATP 250 (where the winner gets 250 points). WTA 250 winners get 280 points and runner ups get 180 points. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WTA_250_tournaments
  13. Schnaider lost against Duke yesterday. Maybe the switch from clay to hard courts? Much to play for tomorrow- a loss would probably ruin any chance of hosting a Round of 16 match
  14. Singles or doubles? Glasspool for doubles in January this year Probably Vladimíra Uhlířová for women's doubles No clue about singles for either main tours- unless you count Jill Craybas (played at Texas for one year before transferring to Florida). Kevin Curren was winning titles in the 80s. Also Lulu Sun is at a career high ranking 226. Should be borderline to get into most Grand Slam qualifying tournaments. Unfortunately she'll be out for several months after tearing ligaments at her last tournament.
  15. lols she just won the first round at the Charleston Open against top 60 Alycia Parks She should be available to play Texas next Monday: no WTA tournaments due to Fed Cup and she's not on any entry lists for the ITF tournaments
  16. Very revealing interview by Zeynalova. Some highlights: -Was dead set on going pro but her mom took over her email and started emailing coaches on her behalf. -Due to starting the recruiting process so late, she talked with 6 schools (including Georgia and NC State) and only had 3 offers. Said she got lucky with Texas as someone in the 2021 team (I'm guessing Lulu?) turned pro and a spot opened up for her three months before starting college. -Chose Austin for various reasons- cool town with Apple and Tesla moving to the area (lol from an Austinite perspective I remember a lot of locals groaned about this), UT just won the national championship -Mentioned about the stress of the war at home -Due to various other things, developed an eating disorder during the season last year in the midst of a dominating freshmen year. -Etc.
  17. Texas completed the road trip with a convincing 4-0 win over Tech. Just two matches remaining: non-conference NC State and Baylor for Senior Day and chance to win at least a share of the regular season conference championship. OU just beat ISU today. So there's now three teams in the conference at the top with one loss.
  18. Iowa State wins the doubles point Wind is also vicious in Stillwater right now
  19. Also Iowa State is playing Oklahoma State right now...
  20. Texas beats TCU. Questionable stacking going on- I don't believe Martins should be playing line 5 for TCU. Rivkin was leading 6-4 5-2. Proceeds to lose the next five games and then bagels her opponent in the third set.
  21. 6-1 win! Oklahoma State only one unbeaten in conference...although they still have to play against OU and Iowa State
  22. In other news, Bianca got her first win as a coach at Mizzou over the weekend! Not to make her job tougher but Mizzou also currently don't have indoor courts to practice and host matches as there's 'structural issues' at the facility. So far all home matches have been held in either St. Louis or Springfield, both 2 hours drive away from Columbia 😵 Guessing Ovrootsky is going to redshirt? Her wrist injury must be pretty bad for her not to play all season Also saw that Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz of Australia is going to play for Texas next year. In my opinion, hard to say what her full capabilities are as I'm pretty sure her ITF juniors career was severely hampered by Australia's strict COVID entry and exit policies. But I'm also guessing that Tennis Australia must have thought highly as her as she got a WC to play the Australian open qualies (with a ranking in the 1000s) and has gotten three wildcards to play in the doubles Grand Slam main draw (even winning one round). Tennis Australia must have also pulled some strings to get Simona Halep to agree to be her doubles partner!
  23. https://mutigers.com/news/2023/2/23/mizzou-announces-tennis-coaching-change.aspx Major yikes- can't imagine what Bianca just walked into. No coaching experience and within 2 months of being an assistant HC, now you're the head coach of an SEC school. Also interesting that Zlobinsky (played first at UT, then transferred to Wake Forest, played in the NC match against UT in 2019) is now the volunteer assistant of the UT women's team.
