Looks like many of the EOs and memos released so far still had metadata on them showing they were authored by … the architects of Project 2025. Color me shocked.

After 30 years, the Stars quietly killed the “darkness” music (so named by Rhyner) played after opposing goals.

SIAP, but this is gonna blow up in a big way tomorrow.
QuotePresident Donald Trump’s budget office Monday ordered a total freeze on “all federal financial assistance” that could be targeted under his previous executive orders pausing funding for a wide range of priorities — from domestic infrastructure and energy projects to diversity-related programs and foreign aid.
The new order could affect billions of dollars in grants to state and local governments while causing disruptions to programs that benefit many households. There was also widespread confusion over how the memo would be implemented and whether it would face legal challenges.
https://www.politico.com/news/2025/01/27/trump-freezes-federal-aid-omb-00200891
More from Roll Call here:
QuoteAs written the pause could affect a big swath of programs that aid lower-income households, including: Medicaid; school breakfast and lunch programs; Section 8 rental assistance; Title I education grants; Temporary Assistance for Needy Families; state grants for child care; Head Start; and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant Program and EPA grants to states and localities for clean water infrastructure — both of which fund a large chunk of congressional earmarks each year — could also be impacted.
Foreign aid grants are likely to be put on hold as well as clean energy projects, as those are specifically named in earlier executive orders.

Trump won’t like the photos. No more funding of National Cathedral
It’s not a governmental entity - it’s owned by an independent foundation with close ties to the Episcopal Diocese of D.C. and the larger denomination. And it’s probably my favorite building in the entire country. I try to go every time I’m in D.C., even on business trips, at times when I can hear the choir, or even just for a brief prayer. The bishop said what needed to be said today, even though it’s going to make her life harder (or put her in danger) for a while. And it’s also ludicrous that what she said is considered so heinous by so-called “Christians”.

Why is he wearing a colander on his head? You know times like this I'm okay with living in Dallas and not one of suburbs.
IIRC from watching some of the testimony, this guy was protesting the right-wing/evangelical takeover of the board, and dressed up as a fake priest to make a point.

i'm pretty confident on abbott's next move ...
all public school students must have their citizenship verified to attend school
A related bill has already been introduced by former Flower Mound councilman-turned-House member Ben Bumgarner, an ally of Abbott. It’s a little more nuanced, but seems to be heading in that direction.

I've heard this is the worst film of the century.
Critics mostly have liked it, actually.

I lived in London in '99 and he was EVERYWHERE - that was at the height of "I've Been Expecting You" (his 2nd solo album that was his biggest seller) and the dude was inescapable on radio, TV, subway posters, tabloids - you name it. That was the album they thought would really break him in the states, but aside from a few dalliances with the Hot 100/Top 40 charts, he never did anything - which brings us to this completely incomprehensible decision by Paramount to drop coin on this film for the US market (although it's gotten strong reviews).

it's a beautiful, beautiful state, but the people are just trash human beings
Eh, Fayetteville is a pretty progressive pocket of the state annd we found people there to be pretty cool. Every school has its shit fans.

My oldest has decided on Arkansas, and got into the honors college as well. We came to F’ville over the break and had a blast - it’s gorgeous up here and the town has a lot of options for good food and drink. I know Surly loves to tray the ‘Hogs - but I’m pretty stoked about being a UArk parent for a few years.

Today I learned Lewisville ISD, with the schools you mentioned, is somehow not a destination district. 🤣
It’s split, as mentioned above. Some schools are very much in demand and considered “destinations” - and others are not. Not saying it’s accurate or fair, but it is a thing.
Same for Richardson ISD, which closed four schools last year. Some schools are in high demand (like Pearce and Richardson HS) while others are struggling and don’t draw from their neighborhoods (which are either getting magnet transfers or going private). But all these districts are still being deeply affected by the total abdication of traditional support for public education from our current governor and incoming legislature.

Cav's, huh?
Went Phantom myself.
Nice! Who knew we had some DCI alums here. Cavs 91 and Phantom 93 are two of my all-time favorite old-school shows. I really wanted to do DCI (even switched to baritone from trombone in band for a year to get used to it), but couldn't swing it financially - it was either spend a few grand I didn't have to go do that, or earn a few grand I really needed working all summer. Kinda regret not doing it.

SIAP - I scrolled back a few pages and searched and didn't see this. Crazy story if true.
aggy grad says he accidentally ended up in the corps, and then the band, and somehow faked his way through four years without ever actually playing an instrument.

Dated a girl from Jacksboro. This is correct. (Dairyland is pretty solid, too.)

No. This fall has been nuts and frankly didn’t think about it. Wasn’t a choice based on any kind of moral stance.

I tested positive for Covid on Monday. It’s knocked me on my butt - I rarely get sick, and this is the sickest I’ve been in years. Started Paxlovid this am and had enough energy this evening to walk the dog around the block - and it wore me out. It’s only been two days of sleeping on an air mattress in the home office to stay away from the family, and I’m starting to go stir crazy.

I don't think I'll leave, but if I did and I was going to stay in the states I would go to Colorado. If shit goes down, it's harder to kill rebels in mountainous areas. In the meantime, I like to fly fish and snow ski.
Northeastern New Mexico for me. Same beautiful vistas and outdoor activities as CO, but the roads all suck so the bad guys can't get to you.

Malzahn to FSU….as OC. Nothing says big time when one of your head coaches leaves to become as assistant at another school q
He was likely to get canned by UCF if he didn’t leave on his own. Preemptive move.

1. LBJ was definitely flawed.
2. Do not ever, ever compare LBJ to Gaetz again. LBJ actually accomplished things and seemed to care about the well-being of the country.

We were told that as well. It is misleading. The 30% number may be the total across the whole student body, but it is heavily weighted toward freshmen and sophomores.
Rough maths for females: 3,600 new freshmen with 2,000 rushing or about 56%. With them parading around in huge groups all over campus it can seem like 90%. Just FYI so your kid knows what to expect.
That's fair. My kid will be a poli sci major and plans to do band, so he'll likely find his people pretty quickly.

My daughter is a freshman at Arky in Supply Chain as I have mentioned. She loves it there, has made great friends already and is doing well in school. Just be aware that the school is VERY Greek. If your kid isn't going to rush (mine didn't), then they should be prepared to find a like minded set of friends, which can be difficult.
When we toured there they said it was only 30% of student body involved in Greek life, which is about double UT but lower than some other schools we visited (like TCU).

Musk retweeted Mike Flynn (that bastion of honesty and patriotism) today calling Lutheran Social Services - which provides an incredible amount of support for families, newcomers, etc. - a money-laundering fraud and vowing to shut down their "illegal payments". LSS literally helps keep children and seniors from starving with these funds. Can't wait to see where this weekend's "revelations" end up in court.
