Nobody goes to a brewery to get loaded.
getting loaded is also definitely not a reason to open a brewery.- 1

Did somebody fact check this?
I’m actually a bit surprised by this. but the more I think about, the more I think it shows Espada is also “1 of 1”. This says every other manager in the history of baseball has either 1) pulled a guy in the first inning before he gets to that point when he thinks his team still has a chance to come back and win or 2) says “f it. Bullpen is toast. I’d forfeit if I could, but you’re wearing it until your arm falls off” and the guy at least gets through the first. The fact that he didn’t do #1, and decided to do #2, before bailing on that idea is not great. (But granted, his hands were tied. I get at some point you have to cut bait and go get him).
I will use this opportunity to reminisce on the only other Astros game that I can remember being this bad (worse) in the first inning. 7 year old me actually remembers where I was listening to Milo on the radio and blown away that a team could give up 2 TDs (with the extra points) in the first inning.
August 3, 1989 at Riverfront. Starter (Jim Clancy) didn’t get an out giving up a leadoff walk and then 6 straight hits, all who would eventually score…(including a 3 run jack by Papa Griffey), before Art yanked him for Bob Forsch. Who proceeded to give up hits to 10 of the next 11 batters (only out of those 11 was the pitcher, Tom Browning) before retiring the leadoff and 2nd guy in the order on their THIRD plate appearances in the inning for the final 2 outs of the inning.
add it all up, we go to the 2nd:
Astros 0 0 0
Reds 14 16 0
(Epilogue: tip of the cap to the Big Bopper who, after all that, led off the top of the 2nd and smashed the first pitch he saw from Browning over the left field wall). (And lol at Browning getting the complete game on 87 pitches.)

Started For Whom the Bell Tolls on a whim a couple of days ago. I am about half way through it and am enjoying it. So far I'd put it above The Sun Also Rises.
i’ve read A Farewell to Arms, The Old Man and the Sea, and For Whom the Bell Tolls in the past year. I enjoyed A Farewell to Arms and The Old Man and the Sea quite a lot. For Whom the Bell Tolls was a slog for me. Will revisit The Sun Also Rises soon. Read it in HS but don’t remember much. -

do you mind telling us what you paid for the Nolan rookie and your understanding of the price spectrum as it relates to grading? I collected as a kid in the 80's and have a Nolan rookie and just curious.
the ryan rookie will vary widely based on condition and grade. easiest way to get a sense of value is go to ebay and search the card and filter sold/completed auctions. the PSA4 was about $800. -
Baseball Trivia at Great Heights Brewing tonight if anybody is looking for something to do.

I'll be in Houston this coming week, staying downtown. Any recommendations for a place that has a good selection of TX beers on tap? Looking specifically for Altstadt and Live Oak.
Flying Saucer downtown is the best beer bar in Houston. They’ll probably have something from Live Oak on tap. Both Live Oak and Altstadt are available at any HEB or Kroger.- 1

"It's time to tune up your furnace like our Texas Rangers tuned up those Houston Astros on the way to the World Series..." -Bakers Brothers Plumbing / AC
What in the actual fuck does that even mean?
tune up can mean to adjust something to make it work more efficiently (e.g. a furnace) or to beat handily (e.g. ALCS gm7).
that really wasn’t too difficult.- 2

Speaking of atmosphere, grilling outside with friends and tailgating are exceptional ways to enjoy a culinary experience. For fans that are going to the ball game, they have an opportunity now to tailgate at a brand new stadium and smoke it up and saranate the whole stadium itself. To me tailgating is a part of gameday experience. And what we found is that 42% of the people prefer pork over the other meat. And at tailgate parties I can understand why because pork is easy, easy to cook, its simple and it’s affordable, and so going to gameday stadium, look for everyone out there to be tailgatin. To be using some type of pork meat on their grills.
My pig found itself smart enough to hop over the barrier from his pen to the next pen and eat all of that pig’s food, and go to the next one and eat all of that pig’s food, and the next one and eat all of that pig’s food and make his way back in time when it was my time to feed him he had already eaten 3 meals and was sitting there waiting for me and I would feed him and he would eat that and that’s why he gained so much weight and got sifted at the fat stock show.- 1
