Astros have the 27th hardest SOS ROS. Rangers have the 15th, Seattle 8th. That’s by winning % of remaining opponents. All 3 teams are almost equal in number of home/away games.

Also, what about the recent history gives you the foggiest idea that the Astros will choke. Is it that, despite going to 6 straight ALCS, they’ve only been to 3 WS during that period?

4 world series. 2019 did actually happen.

  2. as stubborn and irrational as dusty is, i just cannot imagine a scenario where yordan insists he can go for that one AB in the 10th, and dusty sees julks on bench and denies yordan’s request. dusty probably would have swung at a manager in the 70s if he was in the yordan role and it played it out that way.

  3. I’d be interested to know if he went to Dusty during that half inning to lobby for this. If not, then he’s a pussy, especially if he plays tomorrow.

same. i find it very hard to believe dusty wouldn’t allow yordan to hit in that inning if he’d said he was good for 1 AB.
  4. with Maldozero and Strikeouton playing daily, it's the toughest remaining schedule in baseball.

singleton only has 4 hits in 8 games as an astro, but he also only has 4 Ks compared to 7 BB. 11 times on base in 32 PA for a .344 OBP.

  5. Yeah- like I said much more expensive version of not the answer.
I broke down for podcast all the FA signings from last year on July 15th or so. Holy shit it was just fail after fail after fail. Seeing Rodon be awful today after getting more money than any pitcher, and Judge clearly gimped after more money than any hitter, and following Correa and Brantley and Montero and Abreu with Astros ties, along with other guys hurt or performing like shit- it was just an absolutely brutal winter for everyone more or less shopping in FA. Whether luxury, middle class or bargain basement.
I think Kiermeyer was by far the best FA value signed last offseason.

Justin Turner has been pretty damned good. Played 30-something games at 3B, though mostly DHing. Not real cheap, but definitely had gas left in the tank.

  6. It was a rhetorical question. I already knew the answer: Most people don't much care how the beer tastes; they care more about fitting in with their crowd and ABV. But the days of IPAs being trendy are numbered, and then these breweries aren't going to be able to adapt.

most people who are consumers of craft beer do care about how the beer tastes—that’s the whole reason the industry took off. the industry faces a lot of challenges at the moment, mainly from an overall decrease in alcohol consumption from the younger demographic (healthier life-style trends, cannabis, less “going out” in general, craft beer boom aging into “dad” beer, etc), but IPA as a style is not a trend. it’s been the best selling segment of craft beer for 20 years because hops are amazing and can produce a wide variety of bold flavors that can appeal to a wide variety palates. to state that brewers make IPA because they’re easy to brew and most breweries suck, is just a non-sensical claim by someone who hates the style. there are shitty IPAs and average IPAs and amazing IPAs just as there are for every other style of beer.

  7. Ha!
Answer me this: Why are there so many brands, but so little variety, particularly given what an acquired taste IPAs happen to be?

because enough people have acquired a taste for IPA that the style dwarfs all other styles of craft beer when it comes to sales. Over the course of a year in my taproom, on almost any given day 4 of the top 5 selling beers will be IPA or pale ale and the worst selling beer will almost always be the darkest beer on tap.
