Way too much aggie-like "we have good losses" in here.     We have 3 losses.   I don't care who they are to.    If we get in by a hair, great, i'll take our chances and hope.   But if we get left out we have no one else to blame but ourselves.

This. If you have three losses, you can't complain if you get left out. Though teams with no good wins (i.e. the big 12) can't complain either.

I might be on board with LSU beating OU.   They couldn’t put away a crappy and overrated Mizzou team until late.  Like last minute late.

Stranger things have happened, but LSU just got all they could handle from Western Kentucky.

There’s plenty of blame for the season that goes on Sark, oline, RB, WR rosters and play calling.  But we’re also Arch not playing like complete ass vs Ohio State and a lot of Florida, along with other players mistakes on a couple plays vs Florida from having one loss and being ranked in the top 5.  So I wouldn’t say the sky is falling for him just yet.

Texas is also a couple of plays away from losing to MSU, Vandy, and Kentucky.

Something ain’t been right all year. With Sark. This season outside a few quarters of games has been unwatchable. He looks checked out despite what he says. Outside of the Miss State game he looks detached, I don’t know what the fuck is going on and I don’t care. The last HC to be an OC and win it all was Jimbo I mean Jameis Winston. Ok. Sark ain’t talented enough to be both HC and OC. He is half assing both roles. The team suffers. I don’t even care what bullshit he throws out in post game pressers it’s not working. Hes like a politician that says what he thinks we want to hear and a shitty Jedi Knight thinking we will buy it.

The entire offensive side of the ball has sucked. None of those coaches should be back next year.

He obviously shouldn’t be fired unless you are hiring Kirby. Let’s also remember Saban(Alabama) owns Kirby but he still managed to win championships. After the Ohio St game it was obvious to me this team is a year away. They just don’t play with enough confidence. But Sark has to fix his coaching staff and how they prepare for games.

Kirby hasn't been the same under NIL - those championship teams were loaded with talent and experience. He just has a hard on for Texas for some reason. Otherwise, they are a good, but flawed team.

I don’t think he should be fired, but CDC needs to force the issue on making him get a real OC. This is yet another example of putrid offense against a quality opponent. Nobody has feared this offense for 3 years now.

That's what I thought after the Florida loss, but this isn't an OC issue. Sark isn't a bad  coach, he's just not good enough for Texas.

Fuck it I’ll answer it myself - spread the field, 5 wide, 3-4 wide with RB and TEs running routes too. Spread out the defense too. Quick routes. Quick passes, using the pass to set up the run. Waiting until the defense is gassed to run. No pro style long developing plays, no under center 5-7 step drops, etc. Basically scheme.

And sark better go with it the rest of the way.

He also got some help today. Receivers played much tougher today than they have for much of the season.

Agreed with these points. Akina / PK called uncharacteristically soft coverages last week. I don't know if we saw something in MSU's offense that we didn't like or what, but it was strange.

Watching the first half, it seemed like PK bet Shapen couldn't consistently make good decisions and accurate throws on the intermediate stuff. And then he did. At least until the 4th quarter. Also, Akina can't coach zone to save his life.

There have been seven offensive players taken in each of the past two drafts.   I don't think we can argue against development so much right now.

We can argue about literally anything around here. Before we go using NFL draft picks as a measuring stick, I'd like to remind you that JaMarcus Russell was the first pick in the draft...

You can't ignore context. Golden was only at Texas for one season and ran a 4.29 40. He's was getting drafted no matter what. Same with AD Mitchell. Then you have guys like Banks and Worthy who were the best players at their position the day they stepped on campus. They could have played anywhere and done just as well. On the flip side, Cam Williams and Hayden Connor were late round fliers drafted on potential rather than production. Ewers would have been drafted higher had he left a year earlier. Helm, Brooks, and Christian Jones were probably the three biggest "successes" the last couple of years.

  10. I know this discussion is focused on RB, but it's hard to separate them from the offense as a whole where evaluations and development haven't been great lately. The defense is loaded and there are really good players coming off the bench. On offense... not so much. Livingstone is about the only guy exceeding expectations. I'd happily trade skill players with Florida, Bama, Ole Miss, and probably others.

My biased view of the RB room:

Wisner - great after contact, great at cutbacks, pretty slow, reliable, good attitude. Solid contributor but not Ricky Williams, obviously.

Baxter - showed a few tiny flashes as a freshman but basically a non factor until there’s evidence he can not only get on the field, but also produce. I’m skeptical.

Gibson - the fumbling is slightly less of an issue than it was and there were a few tiny flashes at times, but also a lot of bury his head into the line and gain 1. I think he’s got something but he needs a fresh start I guess.

Simon - flashed several times but obviously still learning protections, etc.  I’d like to see him get more carries.

Clark - just meh. Average at everything.

Ricky Stewart - whispers of an issue there?

    Thin RB room, yet again.

I assume Niblett will get a few carries here and there as well.

LOL no.  Ewers would probably see the field and D much differently.  he might even audible out of bad plays or change routes.  It was a horribly called game by Sark though.

Sark's play calling relies too much on out smarting the other team. That worked against Michigan last year, but not against Georgia and OSU. Sark was downright bad against Florida, which is not a situation Ewers thrived in. As we saw against OU, sometimes you just need guys to say fuck it, I'm getting a first down here no matter what the defense does. That was mostly Wisner, but Texas needs more of that across the board on offense. Arch can't execute plays as designed the way Ewers could, but he's more comfortable in "fuck it" mode.

I’m no Ketch fan, but he wasn’t wrong when he posted that. niblett hadn’t done shit until that return.

Yep. The drive that started at the 6 was because he let a punt bounce. He's had one good punt return all year... and it'll be talked about for years.
