How many miles have you racked up now? Hoping my hand isn’t being forced into moving into something new, trans doing something electrically funky. Going to replace internal harness and shift solenoids next week and if that doesn’t do it, probably going to just call it so wife will get off my ass. Nearly trouble free for 16 years but little things been tricking lately, and now electrical.  Fuck electrical gremlins.

This is sort of a separate issue. I think you're talking about the reporting on the kids missing 10% of school year. I'm talking about taking a child out of school here and there for a handful of days a year.

Yes, I don’t have an issue with what Hobbes or yourself, or what I sometimes do.  I’m just relaying what was reported by the woman on the show. I listened to the entire segment a day or two before this thread started.   They were phrasing it as all kids are out more, which I wouldn’t necessarily believe is true.  But the kids that are missing 20-25% of the year, and in larger numbers, are apparently causing issues as they are trying to “keep them up” with the rest of the class.   I’ve got several kids in elementary and middle school, but haven’t really noticed any of this (granted oldest is in all honors/advanced courses).  What I have noticed with one of our elementary students, is that both of her teachers seemed to “check out” within the first month or so.  My daughter reports one of her classes (split day) is very unruly, and the other is fine.  We have to work with her considerably more in the subjects where the class is unruly.   It was an interesting segment, as they went into the demographics (income, race, area, etc) pretty well and while there were subtle differences, there’s a common issue somewhere. Didn’t like how they picked on the “rich kids” that go skiing etc  or the “poor kids” who have to work a factory job or whatever they were selling for a bit, but overall a well done segment.

You think lesson plans start over every time a kid misses a class? You have in fact been to a school before, right?

The idea that some teacher is going to back up and re-teach something for absences is just not how it works.

The woman that was reporting all of this on the radio the other day specifically spoke to this. It’s not because of one child.  But she specifically said that the curriculum is slowed for everyone because of the kids that can’t keep up, and they are covering incrementally less material each year.

I don’t remember it being difficult to fuck tri-delts at all.  Might be skewed though, seems like the only soro girls I knew were all delts.  Wouldn’t categorize any of them as ice queens, but that wasn’t my scene so maybe they are.

Shit, he doesn't even have to sell all of it to Yass.  Sell $500 million to Yass, so he can post his bond.  Sell the rest to gullible rubes in flyover country.

If you can buy outright, with full legal title, the President of the United States for the low low low price, we must be CRAZY, we're practically GIVING THEM AWAY! of $500 million, you do that every fucking time the offer presents itself.  It's a no-brainer.  You just bought the most powerful asset on the planet for fucking pocket change.

How often does it get covered by insurance under 50 without symptoms or personal/family history? Seems like it becoming common in younger people but they don’t tell people to do it until they turn 50.

    It’s always covered now.

yeah man, fuck straight off with this dumb as hell take.

Tesla ranks #14 of 30 in the Consumer Reports reliability rankings. here's the top 20. if you are buying a vehicle and even kind of considering reliability as one of the things you are thinking about - you absolutely, totally and completely, do not buy a fucking Tesla nor do you buy an EV at all. a 48 out of 100 is abysmal.

    image.thumb.png.b2ee441d01432d4a0a7a6c7ae769bb41.png

Tesla is closer to #30(Chrysler at a score of 18) than they are to Toyota (#1 at 79)

here is the CR info on powertrain info, which also shits on Tesla due to the powertrain:

for what it's worth Toyota has 7 of the 10 most reliable cars in this survey, the other 3 are the BMW x5, Subaru Forester and the Acura RDX

but sure, if you want a fucking Tesla you can make sure you defend it however you want. just don't try to use something like reliability as a reason to buy one.

side note, are we acting like Buick (GM division) is not an American auto manufacturer now? they score higher than Tesla

    ---

how do you even identify an "American made" car now?

Tesla claims 100% but that NHTSA list has them at anywhere between 60-75% made in the USA - which genuinely is awesome for them.

    https://www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/2023-03/MY2023-AALA-Alphabetical-3-31-23.pdf

other cars in the top 10 made in the USA below are the ID.4 EV (somewhere between 65-75% depending on trim level) and the Passport (at 75%),

here's the top 15 American Made cars per Cars.com: https://www.cars.com/articles/2023-cars-com-american-made-index-which-cars-are-the-most-american-467465/

    image.png.024d658f3634231d413c2d825167f43e.png

for what it's worth here are the 3 highest rated Consumer Reports cars and their % American in that report above:

    • Toyota 4Runner: 100% Japan
    • Toyota Camry Hybrid: 45% USA, 30% Japan
    • Toyota Camry: 65% USA, 10% Japan

    ---

and yes, yet again you did it!

edit: again, this guy is acting like scoring 14th in the most reliable cars ranking is a good thing! 14th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

here is how the Toyota models score!

    here are the Tesla models:

just for a shitty comparison, here is the buick:

    here is the nissan:

I couldn’t gaf about Tesla, especially their cars, but that list you provided has all sorts of funky shit in it. Mini and X5’s as some of the most reliable vehicles?  Subaru? Did they stop the test at 40k miles before the timing belts explode?  There’s a millions reasons to point and laugh at Tesla, shouldn’t need paid programming from Toyota to accomplish it.

This discussion could be so much more interesting if it wasn’t for you slinging your sophomoric shit at everyone that you don’t deem worthy. And how in the hell did fatty get brought into this? I don’t think he’s even fucked with this thread yet.

No shit. A fucking tech guy who fancies himself as an intellectual. I guess there could be one, I dunno.  Apparently I pos rep’d you on something and that was too much to bear

Yeah, I’ve got mixed feelings about hunting mountain lions because they’re cool cats. But without hunting, they will take a serious toll on deer populations before turning on domesticated pets and livestock. Or they will starve off or die from diseases (like feline leukemia) they contract from domesticated or feral cats.

A large lion can eat up to 30# of meat a day which translates to about 150 deer a year because they also kill smaller deer while their cache. A neighbor about a mile from us set up a trail cam by a freshly cached kill, and a momma and her two half grown cubs finished it off the next night. I also saw an online article by Nat Geo that included pics of mountain lions that could only eat half of their kill because the bottom half was frozen solid to the ground, protected also from top by their skeleton. Cats’ paws are not designed for digging.

My immediate area was teeming with lions a few years ago. I captured at least 4 different adults on trail cams in a year or so, not including two grown cubs one mother had tagging along with her. So much for the conventional wisdom that they control large territories. Our deer population plummeted, and still hasn’t fully recovered. I’ve only caught one Tom on my cameras in the past year, so they’ve moved on to new hunting grounds.

During this same time period when we had higher lion populations and decreasing deer numbers, our next door neighbor started losing sheep (maybe it was goats) to mountain lions. He discovered the remains of several in one concealed spot on the mountainside behind his house.

Back to my friend. He doesn’t use dogs, bait, calls, or mechanized vehicles on his hunts. It’s strictly solo, on foot. It took him from predawn to almost sundown to track down and wait out this particular Tom. He didn’t get it packed out to his truck until 10p which was almost 17 hours after he set out on foot.

Yeah I wouldn’t think twice about it in an area with a population like that.  Texas I’d probably pass. Maybe.

Only way for lots of them to be able to stomach being in college station.  Being high.   Can't honestly imagine what life would be like as a black female athlete in that backasswards racist town.  Especially one that is taller than most of the other students, like bball or vball players.

Probably lots of introspection, on how such a decision was made.  That and lots of drugs.

  13. I used to run with a bunch of dudes that really enjoyed that shit. Didn’t matter where. Didn’t matter if they won or lost.  If there was no one to fight at the bar, they’d just start shut amongst themselves. I never really understood it.  Dead in the chin/jaw will make you sleep. Sucks for Vince, but fuck that sawed off dude hitting him 30 seconds after while shit has been calmed down.  Hopefully that will circle back around on him one day.

My mom has 7 figs saved and I legit am not sure that's enough. But if TX medicaid won't pay for memory care, I don't know if it matters too much. I may have to see if another state has different options. Anyway, I have an appointment with a specialist.

Sorry you are going thru this.  Been thru it once, and about to make a second go it seems.

Twisted X makes a good work boot, I’ve heard.  I’ve got a metric ton of wear out of a pair that get bad reviews, but have been great for me (Irish setters, ~4 years everyday wear). The soles are finally getting bald in some spots that could cause me issues if it contributed to an incident, so will probably replace soon.  They were comfortable af from day 1, have been near everyday wear for last 4 years from job site to field to everyday wear.   Based on the reviews I didn’t expect them to last half as long, but steel isn’t even showing. Just a couple of bald spots.

Well, lost a chunk of the heel climbing in and out of a zoom boom today.  Think I’ll keep them around a bit for an extra pair but going to get me a new set this weekend I guess. Just after bragging on them…

Still comfortable af but it’s time.

I don’t think he has had an unsuccessful mountain lion hunt in 15+ years. Yes, I’m jealous.

I know cat hunting is a touchy subject sometimes, but I’d love just once to get on a good mountain lion hunt.  About 20 years ago now, I shot a bobcat on consecutive hunts. I had them cleaned up and in a freezer, waiting on funds to do a double mount (just out of college) and the freezer died while I was offshore (sorry llanoestacado), well, llanos freezer died while I was offshore and he was somewhere else offshore. Anyhow, I’ve been giving them a pass for 20 years now out of respect/karma for that incident.  Wife would be very upset but I think if I saw a good one this year, I’d take it.  A lion in Texas probably not, but in a state where they are more plentiful, no doubt.
