would they be in the big 10 title? Does big still do divisions this year or would Penn St/Ohio St be the championship if both win out?

In that scenario it would roll down to the 5th tie breaker which is the cumulative conference record of cross division opponents.

PSU - Iowa, Illinois, NW 8-10

UM - Minn, Pur, Neb 7-11

OSU - Wisc, Minn, Pur 7-11

Isn't PSU like 0-100 when it comes to playing top 10 teams?

I absolutely would. Penn State seems to be the master of being a decent team that beats up on lower-tier teams like they should and then knowing their place against highly ranked opponents.

Franklin is 3-16 against top 10 teams at PSU. He’s only been favored in 1 of those games, one of the 3 wins.

As you pointed out, with him at coach they pretty much always beat the teams they are supposed to, and lose to the teams they’re supposed to.

How is Michigan only favored by 4.5 this week?

Because UM hasn’t played anyone yet, their run game has appeared less dominant than it was last year, psu is #1 in run defense at like 1.8 yds/play, and also #1 in sacks. Every other team has sold out to stop the run against UM but not had the talent to stop the pass while doing that. PSU might be able to. They probably can for a half, but if their offense is as bad as it was against OSU, the D wears down in the 2nd half and UM runs away.

Had PSU not gotten called for D holding on a sack fumble return for a TD that instead gave OSU a 1st down at like the 15 yard line where they scored a couple of plays later, PSU probably wins that game, is ranked top 3, and favored by 4.5. Shoulda, coulda, woulda.

Most likely scenario is something like UM up 10-6 at halftime and then winning like 27-13.

I could see OSU getting in because of their resume but UM & PSU have played nobody & the Harbaugh scandal would just be an added weight around their neck. I don't see either of those 2 teams getting in ahead of a 1 loss Texas or Oregon/Washington. OSU may because of their win vs. ND but the committee may not forgive their lack of ranked wins combined with the late loss.

Whichever team made it out of those 3 would have the best win and the best loss in the country. They aren’t getting left out.

The committee isn't going to put a non-conference champion in over Texas if we win the Big 12 and are sitting at 12-1. There's only going to be 1 team per conference in the CFP this year but, like many people were screaming about from the moment it was announced, when there are only 4 spots for 5 power conferences someone is bound to be left out if every conference has a viable option. There's still plenty of ball to play but we need to win out (preferably more convincingly than we have been winning) &:

FSU to lose any game or

The Pac 12 champion to have a loss or

The Big 10 champion to have a loss.

Any of those things happening would give the committee all it needs to move UT to 4th. The only question would be Oregon winning out. They'd have good wins @ Utah, Pac 12 championship vs. UW (avenging their only loss), & OSU. I don't know what the committee does with that compared to us winning @ Bama, vs. KU, vs. KSU, & the Big 12 championship

undefeated or 1 loss SEC champion is in (UGA/Bama). The only scenario I could see the SEC being left out is if either UGA or Bama is a 2 loss SEC champion which seems highly unlikely. Bama would have to lose to Auburn & then beat UGA. UGA would have to drop 2 of 3 between Tenn., OM, GT, & then beat Bama.

The big ten east had half of the top 6 before any of them had a loss. If the home team wins each of those games, whoever lucks out with the tie breaker isn’t getting left out.

Or it’s what makes CFB great

If PSU finds a way to beat UM and UM beats OSU, with that game being a noon kickoff, it might come down to Indiana - Purdue that afternoon playing for the old oaken bucket and I will be as hyped as I have ever been for big ten west football wearing some Hoosier candy stripe pants.

Penn State would get in as of now, but it’s close and could change. Hilariously, it would hinge on things like who wins the Purdue Northwestern game.

Yes, the 5th tie breaker is the cumulative conference record of the 3 cross division opponents.

Penn state should have had the tie breaker solidified, but relying on big ten west teams to win games is a miserable college football experience.

Week 8: Nebraska - NW, Wisconsin - Illinois, Iowa - Minnesota. I check the scores at one point and all 3 of NW, Ill, and Iowa were winning. From that point NW got outscored 14-3 in the second half to lose 17-9, Illinois gave up 17 unanswered points in the 4th to lose 25-21, and Iowa got outscored 9-0 in the 2nd half to lose 12-10.

If they all end up with the same cumulative record it goes to the record against their top crossover team, which will be 1-0 for each of them, so they’ll draw straws.

    RG3 is trash

Fuck Saturday’s take on that. We can’t punish the kids playing g now because their coaches cheated? What about the kids on all of the other teams that were hurt by this cheating. Most of the kids on this current team were directly fucking befitting from the cheating.

  9. So the big ten wants to get the 2 game suspension on the books and over with before the ohio state game and the playoffs, UM wants to drag it out in hopes that they get their title and worry about any potential fallout next year after Jim is maybe gone to the nfl and they maybe end up with the next Brady hoke.

Levis is the fucking man too bad he's on one of the 15 NFL franchises I hate

Same with Hopkins the other way too though

Yep, but also Joey Porter Jr could have been called for holding or PI on every play he’s been in coverage going back to the last 2 seasons at Penn state regardless of who he’s covering.

Yes.  Trophy games are a thing in the B1G, and it's cool.

There are some pretty good ones. And pretty good origin stories for some.

The little brown jug: Michigan coach Fielding Yost suspected that Minnesota would taint the water supply in a 1903 game in Minneapolis, so he ordered a manager to buy a water jug of their own. After Michigan left it behind following a 6-6 tie, it became the series’ traveling trophy.

The Illibuck trophy: when Illinois and Ohio State decided they needed a rivalry trophy in 1925, they picked a live turtle; the animal’s long lifespan was meant to show the anticipated longevity of the Illinois-Ohio State rivalry. But the turtle died just two years later (according to the University of Illinois Library, it spent his two years living in fraternity houses and other campus buildings and died of stress.)
