I'm scared and need an adult.
He is literally the only MLS-caliber center back on the roster. I just think Colorado is that bad.
Hard to believe we're only three weeks to the day since we got the official news about Julio being out at least eight weeks. Seems like two years ago.

I asked this earlier upthread, but is the window open to buy a new player? I don't understand the convoluted MLS rules. I don't even know if there is a window or if a guy can leave their club from, say, Europe at any point when MLS comes quietly tapping on the window.
Others have answered, but transfer windows everywhere provide deadlines for incoming transfers. Most of the big European leagues have common windows but they’re different all over the world.
We are unlikely to transfer a player in from Europe because they can’t replace him.

On the attacking side, I don't like whatever dynamic is causing Driussi to be wide and Rigoni to be in the middle. Druissi is our playmaker and needs to be in front of the goal. Pereira and Wolfe played too much on the outside as well - Austin had no control over the center of the field.
Wolff decided to fuck with the positioning of Diego and Driussi for….reasons. He talked about it in the postgame presser. Fixing something that wasn’t broken. I’m a common idiot, but even I can tell something looks really off from looking at Driussi’s heat map this weekend.

That was my first time listening to the podcast and y'all did a great job. Thanks for a good discussion of some of the new players.
Thanks for listening. We have A LOT to talk about tomorrow. And one thing from last week re: Keller came true way earlier than we hoped
“…it could be a big question mark when we have to start him or in a game where he has to play significant minutes.”
Whenever possible, we are going to have Apple+ talent on to help us with game previews. Jamie Watson will be on this week for the Montreal preview.

If you’re into a full conversation on the depth chart, we got one.

If you don't love Gyasi Zardes after this interview, you're a horrible, soulless person. Plus, Healey spills some of the beans on how the Apple broadcasts are going to work.

I think the preseason games are usually closed to the public. So you'd want to verify that first. @skittlebrau will know.
Yeah they are all closed door. There will be some people on the hill across the street watching from a distance but it’s not a great experience for a little one.

any details on the US Open Cup, CLL, and League Cup matches? All I have down are the two Concacaf matches with Haiti. And I don't any more condoms after that.
Don't know if you listen to Moontower Soccer, but this question was the source of a whole segment on the show this week.

CCL - First round away and home starting in early March. The away match is actually in the DR. Also a possibility that the Haitian club (which hasn’t played since May of last year) forfeits because they can’t get US visas because their government is basically nonfunctional and we get a bye into the quarters.
Quarterfinals: April 4-6 (first leg) and April 11-13 (second leg). Solid chance this is against a Mexican club.
US Open Cup - Austin FC enters the knockout competition in the third round on April 25-26.
Leagues Cup - Austin FC hosts group stages matches beginning the week of July 21. Tournament ends in mid-August.

The other thing is that we have so many more games. We are going to need depth and there are plenty of starts to go around.
2022 - 34 regular season + 3 playoff + 1 US Open Cup
2023 - 34 regular season + ? US open cup + at least 2 (probably more) CCL + at least 3 (possibly more) Leagues Cup + ? playoffs

Is there a rule stopping a team from signing a college player before they graduate?
No. SuperDraft is for college seniors and Generation Adidas players. Nothing stopping someone from leaving college early if good enough. But I think the guys worth it usually end up with GA deals. Austin now has three such players (Pereira, Keller, Fodrey) and none of them count against the salary budget.

Do all MLS franchises do that? I would think they wouldn't want their second teamers to get injured since between subs and injuries and contract shit, they still get a lot of playing time in for-points matches? I've been following the international game (but not pros) for 20 years but admittedly, I only gave a shit about the MLS platform/setup after we got our franchise in Austin.
Thanks for the heads up on schedule. I figured it'd be sometime before/after WC completion. My season ticket holder neighbor is gonna do a sort of draft where we can pick 'n choose matches to attend with him based on dates.
Think of it like a Premier League reserve team. It’s a chance for people like Redes, Keller, etc to get some minutes.

31 is old AF in soccer years.
The counterpoint is that he’s 9 months younger than Maxi and scored the same amount of goals in fewer games. And he’s returning to a system he thrived in. I like it if the money’s right, but hopefully they’re going to invest some of these savings elsewhere. Like a frontline CB to replace Julio.

I'm glad to hear about Jimenez. He's solid off the bench, and without him, Austin would have to search for some additional depth. I'd much rather they look for another strong center back.
He’s also making half as much as last year and not taking up a senior roster spot with this deal. Good business.

If you're interested in Academy players, we covered a half dozen or so of the top prospects this week.

Thanks! We’ve got a guy from MLS setting them up for us every week. Ironically, the one he fucked up was Adrian Healey for the Rapids preview. Which is also the only one I could have set up on my own.
