I just put in a pick for Peyton Powell to Baylolr

He may just do that, I'm not sure.  His dad played at Baylor.  That said,  he's probably visited TT maybe 5 times, twice after his UT commitment.

I'm still not thoroughly convinced that the QB as important to him as many here suggest.  One, I've heard him say that and two, BU has a really good QB already committed.  He was Ga.'s first pick (and Kliff's too for that matter).  At TT he's got 3 years to sit behind Bowman.  There's also Duffey and McIvor.

So could be BU, who knows?  Not entirely sure what what this means, if anything.  From TT commit and high school teammate Landon Peterson. "You know the move".

0% chance those Georgia, ND, USC, aggy offers are commit-able.

Fwiw, would have agreed, but happened to hear today from a prominent resident of Wellington who frequently talks with Trevor Roberson and he allowed as how OU, Ark, Bama, LSU as well as others are all still "trying real hard" with TR.

There's  a coach on the Wellington staff that went to high school with Wells.

Are the recruiting rankings an absurd stereotype? Quick google-fu shows Tech above only KU. Is that the nuance you are looking for?

Not an absurd stereotype, but virtually everyone would agree it's an inexact science to be sure.

That really doesn't matter though as you're really over thinking this. My original point was there are multiple coaches who have demonstrated it's clearly possible to recruit to Lubbock. Even cited examples.

The football program has had six years of being headed by an awful recruiter, then faced with a coaching change only days before the early signing period.  And you want to blame their less than stellar ranking purely on location?

If it was purely location, it would be across the board and Beard, Tadlock, Kittley, etc. woudn't be able to recruit either.  You're trying way too hard.

No, I think he's doing it with white guys. Tobacco chewing white guys who don't feel out of their element in Lubbock. Recruiting baseball and football are two entirely different things.

    https://texastech.com/roster.aspx?roster=162&path=baseball

Utter nonsense.  When it comes to college baseball, virtually everyone in the entire country, including UT, does it primarily with white guys. And have you seen the TT basketball team play a game?

Most certainly there are nuances that differ in recruiting varying sports.  In the final analysis though, they're the same--you've got to get them to go to your school as opposed to another.

Got any more absurd stereotypes?  It's fun playing make believe.

Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers were both mid to late first round picks, so obviously not really way under the radar coming out of college. But it’s interesting to me how so many of the QBs in the league were top 5 picks, or first overall picks, and yet Mahomes and Rodgers are the two guys who physically make throws the other QBs can’t.

There are busts and steals at every position, but it seems like you don’t see the most physically talented players drafted too low at other positions unless there are off field issues.  It’s not like Adrian Peterson and Saquan Barkley went late first round while 3/4ths of the other starting RBs were drafted higher than them.

Not to nitpick, but Mahomes was actually taken 10th in first round.

Not a good night for Wells,   The Shenault decommitment was no surprise as he's got a decent number of options.  I had expected Shenault to do so even before KK left.  Brother goes to Col, he had visited and they were pushing hard.  Other schools are in the mix as well.

Appears Steven Parker could end up at KU of all places.  Miles announced today the hiring of recently departed TT WR coach, Emmett Jones.  Parker has had a very lengthy relationship with Jones as have many of the Dallas inner city kids.  They're tight.  Parker at this point still supposed to visit TT this week end.

I don't mean this as a criticism of Tech but Kliff wasn't a very recruiter and I'm sure that will help Tech with this transition class.

A lot of lower ranked recruits don't have committable offers from the big boys which makes it easier to hold on to recruits. Tech is likely the best committable offer for most of their current commits outside of a few.

The good news for schools like Tech, K-State and Kansas is their recruiting classes weren't very good under the previous coaching staffs so there isn't much chance a huge dip in the recruiting rankings. Even if you lose a couple lower ranked recruits you can probably replace them with similar caliber recruits.

Agree, KK was an absolutely awful recruiter.  Also agree the lower ranked guys can be replaced fairly easily.

While as you suggest a goodly number of the year's class didn't have offers from the big boys, quite a few did have offers from comparable, at times even better programs (a notch above the KU's of the world) which at this late date aren't always easy to replace. Don't recall 247, but Rivals had the class ranked something like 35th or so before KK's departure--not bad by Kliff standards.

That's by and large what I was alluding to when suggesting he had done a pretty good job.  Keeping those types.  Had 19 commits, all but a kicker and 2 guys they offered early on at least 3 stars.

So far impressed at how Wells and new TT Staff has handled 2019 Recruiting Class.....

I wanted Kliff fired, but was not particularly fond of the Wells hire.  Fact is, I initially hated it.   Have to say though, this far he's done a really nice job with this class under trying circumstances.

This week end could be pretty interesting as well.

Mavrick is former UT QB Rick McIvor’s boy. He actually had an offer from SC months ago. Kliff landing there is probably the reason.

McIvor cancelled last week's visit to USC.  Btw, McIvor had his USC offer long before Kliff was linked to USC.

Conflicting reports on the Tech radio station here in Lubbock this morning regarding McIvor. The local guys here answered a question from a fan about him and they said they didn't think he was recommitting. FWIW I don't know if they have any info or if it was just their gut feeling.

Well, it wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong when it comes to recruiting, but I'd most likely be willing to bet a substantial sum of money on a recommit to TT.  Kind of funny, even his own grandmother announced it yesterday.

Might be official soon. OV to TT this week end after multiple unofficials.

I assume we're not interested in any of their decommits...

There's been some discussion off and on from UT sources about interest in Steven Parker.

If we believe close family members, Maverick McIvor is a done deal to Tech.  Cancelled his USC visit last week end.  Keeyon Stuart forecast to re commit soon as well.

  12. Wesley named All-America today by the Football Writers Association of America.  That and declaring for the draft isn't too bad a day.  Highest projection I've seen is 2nd round.

Interested to see what happens with Tech 2019.... McIvor may Re-Commit Tech??  Hogan may get a shot at aggie.....  Haven't heard where Parker might end up.

    Texas Tech 2019 Football Decommits

    Hogan--as Machinator mentioned, he recommitted

Steven Parker-- visited TCU this past week end, seeing TT coaches Wed., visiting TT this week end

Maverick McIvor--recommitted, will visit TT this week end

Keeyon Stewart--widely expected to recommit, hasn't done so yet

    Markel Reed-- jury still out

    Brandon Joseph-- jury still out

Trevor Roberson-- described as 50/50 after reports of Ark & Missouri visits the last 2 week ends.  Ark source fwiw says he's staying.

Gilbert Ibeneme-- the fairly highly recruited DE reaffirmed commitment

Some informal reports of a couple of new commits as well, one a flip from another Big 12 school (not Powell).  We'll see.

Member when Powell was supposedly Greg Schiano’s man crush as an elite DB prospect, and it was supposedly a Texas/OU/Ohio State battle for his commitment?  I member.  And with that in mind, how the fuck is someone who had those options going to be deciding between Baylor and Tech?

I fully realize TT's place in college football's recruiting pecking order, but when it comes WRs they're fairly competitive.  Since the 2015 class, they've signed wideouts with offers from A&M, Wisconsin,  Ohio State, OU, LSU, UT, UCLA and some others that do a pretty good job recruiting.

  15. The path to QB playing time at Tech is no easier at TT than UT.  They've got Cater, Duffy, true freshman Bowman, and will have Maverick McIvor as well.  No doubt UT has good WRs but most any year TT's is every bit their match.  TT has even put more in the NFL as late.

I wouldn't look for Powell to visit TT .  He's already done so at least 3 times that I recall, a couple of times after his UT commitment.  TT has gotten six commitments in the last 2 or 3 days, though it's not entirely clear who all of them are, though one is widely believed to be Powell's hs teammate.  My guess is the majority are guys who decommitted upon KK's departure but who knows for sure?

Your first mistake was reading Orangebloods

May be, may very well be, as I don't read it regularly.  Let me preface this though with the fact I'm certainly nobody special when it comes to sources and inside info, but I do happen in this case to be aware of the source of OB's info here.  Very credible.

Come on.... Brand new Tech Staff??  If after all this time Powell chooses Tech, then he's wanting the easy route to playing time.  Horns need Dawgs that love Texas and competition.

If he's a gritty competitive great player.... he'll choose Texas.  If not, the Horns will have no problem finding a replacement in the 2020 Class.  🤘

I can certainly respect that you think Powell should go to UT.  But these couple of lines from Orangebloods earlier this week kind of generated this entire discussion.   From Orangebloods:

"ATH Peyton Powell of Odessa Permian will be taking an official visit to Baylor this weekend.
He's also said he will be talking to the new Texas Tech staff soon."

But come on man, there's  several fairly good reasons he might consider TT without being a lesser person including friend and teammate committed there, very close to home, new OC Yost comes highly regarded, numerous WRs in the NFL as of late, QB success as well if he goes that route, sister attending TT, 3 more years of Bowman then McIvor, influence of high school coaches, etc.

i don't pretend for a second to know what PP is going to do, but he's been consistent with his TT interest.  Not sure about Baylor, but he's visited TT at least twice since his UT commitment and several times prior. Fact of the matter is though he committed to UT over others.  That's the biggest hint of all.  Chill.
