Tech didn’t get it done. If our donors decide he’s the guy then he will be the coach here.

Would it ever occur to you that Beard might have a coaching preference, if for no other reasons than purely personal ones, that are inconsistent with your reasoning above?

From an article today in the DMN by Chuck Carlton:

"In three seasons at Tech, Beard hasn’t shown any inclination to jump at other jobs. One athletic director who was recently in the market for a head coach said he was convinced that Beard wouldn’t leave Tech."

“He’s had opportunities the last two years to look at just about every job that has become available - and he hasn’t looked at any of them. I think that speaks to his commitment to the program,” Hocutt said. “Well, this is the best job for Chris Beard. I’m confident of that.”

Needs to step down a level from P5..... Wonder with coaching change if he can get a waiver and play somewhere like Texas State???

An East Texas native (Gilmer), he might find SFA appealing.  Given the TT coaching change and prior turnover, there's a variety of places where ex coaches are now working including a few non P5 spots. Eric Morris now the head coach at Incarnate Word comes to mind immediately.

  3. TTU with a decent 2019 acquisition today. Atlanta, Ga. 3 star DB, Dequanteous Watts, announced his signing.  Visited a couple of weeks ago.

Finalists were TT, South Carolina, and Louisville.   Pretty nice offer list with over 40 offers. Originally appeared he might not qualify (test scores), but upon doing so late, the delayed recruiting race was on.

This is flat-out embarrassing. The one moment our hard-working, respectful, and classy program steps onto the national pedestal, our student body does this. THIS is what people will think about Texas Tech. Not our hard work but our ignorance, irresponsibility and irrationality. These idiots have to realize that they represent Texas Tech University. Being known as a hostile and toxic fan base is not the reputation that Coach Chris Beard wants Tech to be known for. We should act like how Kansas Basketball or Oklahoma Football acts: this is something we are used to. Chris Beard is the mark of a new era. So why try to trash the reputation of that era? I know our students have historically been dangerous and ill mannered, but this makes me embarrassed to be a Tech fan. And seriously. It was the game to make the natty. Our students better pray for the best Monday because now all of America knows that Texas Tech students lack class. This needs to be addressed NOW. I am sick of tired of Tech being a laughingstock of college athletics. It’s time for a change or else, Texas Tech athletics may never be able to garner the national respect that our rising athletic programs deserve.

Unfortunate as the events of the evening were, relax a little.  TT hadn't exactly cornered the market on this hooliganism.  Hell, Michigan State lost last night and their students rioted.

It is true but misleading. Scooping up Matt Mooney and Tariq Owens from grad transfer was basically the equivalent of two 5-star one and dones given how they've played this year.

In other news, suck my ass captain blue blood dick sucker Jay Bilas:

The end of the world is near.  Bilas, after being a non TTU respector throughout the entire play offs now picks them over Virginia.  Seth Davis too.  The end is near.

Tech is elite at basketball and baseball. Imagine if Matt Wells is above-average for them.

Not that a lot of people care, but this year, TT's track team was ranked number one in the country.  Aggie once upon a time tried to hire the coach, Wes Kittley, away.  He told them he'd have to take a hard pass.  Too bad, so sad for Aggie.

There’s not a classy person within 300 miles of the shithole called Lubbock. Fuck off and fuck you.

Hope Michigan State beats you by 50 points.

The only class Girdwood has experience with is the one he took to try and get his GED.

I don't disagree.   Unless he just really prefers to coach at UT/live in Austin.   There isn't any amount of money Tech could throw at ME that makes Lubbock a nice place to live

FIFY.  Very important distinction.  He's lived there 14 years now.

$3M a year in Lubbock goes a long ways.

Also he has a lot of history in West Texas. He coached at McMurry in Abilene (where he also went to grad school). He also coached two years at San Angelo state. That's not to mention the 11 years as an assistant at Tech. If he hated the panhandle he would have left a long time ago. Like me.

Don't forget about his 2 years at Abilene Christian either.

This is a good post.  Only thing I have to add is have you ever been to fucking Lubbock?

A fairly myopic view.  People's judgement criteria as to city preferences obviously vary considerably.  While Lubbock may not be your preference, there are those for which it is.

Even should Beard leave TT next week, I can assure you Lubbock will have nothing to do with it.  I know for a fact he genuinely likes living there.

Tech would be stupid not to lock that down like an ugly rock star dating a supermodel.  They're not gonna touch anyone as good as Beard for decades, if then.  If money's an issue, I'd be shocked if we landed him.

Hocutt was again asked about Beard on his radio show today.

He said people would be crazy to not come after him, but Tech wasn't going to let him get away.

Hocutt reminded his listeners that Beard signed a six-year deal last season.  He added they'll continue to be proactive and investing in him and his program.

I might add there are a fair number of non-financial reasons he might be interested in staying in Lubbock as well.  Has lived there 14 years, daughters are nearby, girlfriend, very shiny new basketball facility currently under construction, etc.
