  1. This week will be tough.  If we take 3-4 points in next two, lucky or not, that will be huge heading into next home game.

Beating Vancouver might put us in top 3 after this weekend amazingly (recognizing a few teams have a game in hand)

If we can hover in this 5-7 range and make playoffs this year I will be thrilled.

  2. I am not hopeful.  I do not know how Maga or Maga adjacent Hartzell is, but he is definitely a coward.

This is so fucking strategic by hot wheels and their ilk.  And we need to remember that most of the $$ funding the university probably was fine or ambivalent about what DPS did on campus.  And Abbott is well aware.

Faculty is going to revolt.  Many will leave.  The fascists will welcome that and Joe fucking Lonsadale might not have to open his new fucked up university because UT will evolve into it.

Maybe I'm just heartless or something, but I can't get into this show. And this coming from a guy who actually likes other children programming so you'd think it would be my wheelhouse (e.g. Peppa Pig, Gumball, Big City Greens, etc.)

    What am I missing?

Watch Whale Watching.  Then Faceytalk.  Then Unicorse.  That should grab you.  Whale Watching is a masterpiece of writing for two different audiences.

Hartzell should resign. Either in protest or in disgrace, I care not which.

Better yet, join the faculty tomorrow.

Snowflake or not, the stock is holding steady in the mid-30's now. Another few days and trump gets another huge chunk of shares, which he can sell off. He'll probably make a nice 1-2 billion on this when he cashes out ASAP.

I just don't see how unloading a bunch of that stock is going to be possible at a price above $20 outside of buyers that are just going to treat it as an indirect campaign donation and writeoff.  I guess that is the move.  The moment he files that he is selling, there is going to be simultaneous sell off by the float, driving down the price, right?  I don't think the MAGA wanna be Gamestop bros have the attention span to hold off the shorts.  It will be interesting.

Ain’t no way he’d fake an illness to look weak. That would shatter his whole persona. “I’m too weak and sick to sit in a court room” while Biden is out campaigning would absolutely shatter the narrative

Biden: “I wish my opponent the best in his current heath battle.  Knowing Trump and the prior results his doctors have provided us with respect to his health, this must be something very, very serious given what he has going on currently with the campaign and everything else.  I hope he gets better soon so he can be a part of all of these very important items that he has on his very busy schedule these next few months. Bless his heart”

If Trump plays the health card, the Biden campaign needs to go southern wine-addled suburban divorced mom passive aggressive on the Trump campaign.

i think it speaks more to how rushed of an ending the book was.  i didn't like the book ending.

another difference between the book and this show is yabu's character.  i remember him being more sinister in the book but the way he was played here makes him a lovable goofball with an unfortunate bent toward self preservation in a culture that expects loyalty to the point of death.  i think i like this portrayal more- he's almost a touchstone to modern sensibilities.

The several anime level “Huh?”’s by Yabu cracked me up every time.

This is going to get held up in court for years and employers and are going to do what they what they are already do in California - make the non solicit and confidentiality provisions in the employment contract operate suspiciously like a non compete and dare the employees to sue.

CA recently passed more clear legislation that basically says any employee based non-solicit (employee or customer) is illegal.   There are some exceptions.

In Ca we really only see non-competes in the company sale context where dudes get FU money.  Some buyers get more aggressive but I’d be hesitant to defend in a CA court.  That’s where this is going to go, I think

Honestly, I welcome this. It makes  life much easier as companies grow into new states or in the new distributed market place.

It is definitely LOL, but honestly, presuming Wrexham do get promoted, and Rob and Ryan are willing to pay up, I imagine they are going to try to place some US names on the team.  Weston is too good, but if I am, say, Haji Wright, and they are willing to throw Championship money at me, I am listening.

As to the tapping, I took it as timing of the assault waves. Between the first wave to cleanse the protectors and then the next to move in and capture/kidnap Mariko.

I’m assuming capture to prevent both her seppuku and her return to Toranaga. This removing Ishido’s “holding everyone hostage” and letting the new found boldness to leave.

I haven’t read the book or watched the 1980s show. I believe Mariko is Lady Gracia whose suicide fueled the fall of Osaka and rise of the Edo period.

Dang I really love this show.

Now I want to go rewatch the Hunted

    Spoiler

Correct - the mission was to capture, not kill, Mariko, which is why she wouldn't try to escape.

Mariko is definitely patterned after Lady Gracia.  I am new to all of this, but official podcast said it and said almost all main characters in the book are based on someone from that period of Japan.

Watched the first episode of Warrior tonight. 1870's San Francisco Chinatown organized crime stuff. Has a bit of a Guy Ritchie feel like The Gentleman. Same showrunner as Banshee, so....

Anyhow, I'll keep watching for now.

If you know anything at all about Bruce Lee's life, this show is like a window into his psyche/soul and it's clear that he was a pretty twisted dude.

I've been powering through in between other shows.  It's a lot of fun.  A lot of the actors are horrible (although many are good) and outside the main guy, I can't recall anyone being in anything else that I've seen.  It took me until the episode in season one where they go pick up the coffin in the small old west town that when the Asian actors speak English with no accent, they are speaking Chinese, then whenever they interact with a white person (other than Ah San and Mai Ling, given they knew English already), they speak in broken English.  It's a choice.  But this show is too shallow for subtitles so I appreciate it.

Dont mistake stimulant fueled nighttime rage with "stress."

He also geneuinely beleives it's fake news that not everyone loves him. It's all a minority of deep state actors keeping him from power and adoration. I wouldn't try to justify the behavior of a narcissist through the lense of normal humans. Cognitive Dissonance is the most powerful force in the universe.

Which is why he needs to be grey rocked if he loses this fall. It should have happened in 2015-16 but the novelty and related ratings wouldnt allow it.  Here is to hoping if he loses that he gets no more oxygen from the press.  Hahahahahahaha…….

  13. I am all for playing Biro more but I presume that comes with 19 yo mistakes.  Jimenez was really bad Saturday but I still think Pereira and others give the ball away too freely in the back and leave those guys exposed.

Is Hedges hurt?  I think he’s been effective too.  I didn’t see him warming up to come in Saturday.  Perhaps it was just “old guy gets to rest”.   But I am down with putting him and Cascante back there with BHi until Kolmanic and then Vaisenan come back.

I don’t know what to make of Cascante.  He makes 3 amazing and 2 boneheaded plays a game.  I like the dude and he’s an AustinFC OG.  But I wonder if at full strength BHI and Hedges are better with V or Kolmanic pairing with Gallagher.?

  14. At the game.  I called their offside when it happened.  Was obvious.

How the hell did our goal get overturned? I didn’t appreciate they could review for a foul like that.  Thought it was just offside and penalty.   Sucks because it was a beautiful strike by Obtien.

    Smart people join cults too

Propaganda works. Repeat a lie often enough and it becomes the truth. We have unfettered propaganda networks firehosing “immigrants are murdering your family”  into their faces 24/7. It’s not just Tik Tok, it’s “legacy” media.

    It’s going to get worse

My aunt and uncle are in their early 60s and are successful business owners in Richmond VA.  I love them and hanging out with them.  They are fun, my cousins (their kids) are fun and it's always a blast to see them.  But they fell hook line and sinker for the drag queens and pedos in schools bit that Youngkin and others have been selling.  Even though they don't have kids in school anymore.  Even though they aren't particularly religious.  They are relatively good natured about it when I give them shit.  For instance, every time they say the word globalist, they have to drink.

  16. Yeah; Indont get the double standard white knighting for Mulkey in this thread.  She’s done two unequivocally unredeemable things that transcend the sexism double standard (which I agree with by the way).

    1. Apologizing and being annoyed by the plight of female students at Baylor during the Briles era, and

    2.  Shaming and potentially facilitating the public outing of gay players on her team.

So yeah, all of those negative adjectives about hard nosed women in coaching and the workplace get flipped to positive adjectives for men all of the time.  And perhaps it applies to Mulkey some.  But those two things above are beyond the pale and are irrelevant to the sexism argument.  Fuck her.

  17. My take having not read the books, but answering some questions upthread to see if I am right?

    Spoiler

    - The nanofibers were used on the ship because they could wipe everything out, but they could save the computers, right?  They mention they need to do that, but then just jump straight to going to Augie.  Why wouldn't the fibers slice through the computers, too?  Anyway, I think that was it.

    - I don't think the Sophon can do anything physical -- it can just read/monitor/change what we see.  I guess it could digitally remove a mountain causing a plane to run into it or something like that.  But my senes is that the Sophon's only can affect people's perception.  Saul's theory of the blinking sky being a deep fake at the beginning was right (and watch Ye's reaction again when he says it).  That's all the Sophon's can do -- deepfake what we are actually seeing.
