  1. I'm all in favor of bringing in a guy or two, for depth or even to start ahead of Holmes and the freshmen.  Of course we should take any opportunity to improve.  I just wouldn't expect it to be significant.  You could put Stingley on last year's team and opponents would still just throw to whoever Thompson or Crawford were covering.  I'm assuming better safety play and pass rush will make more of a difference.

I’ve been thinking about how he handled the portal too. He brought in all that bread clearly thinking he’s was going to use the spring as an open tryout and they’ve had several guys cut that just transferred over in the winter.

I guess it’s possible that he was open with those guys about exactly what the opportunity was, and even if he wasn’t maybe it doesn’t matter in the portal era. It does seem kind of shitty to recruit multiple players to transfer to your program, use them as tackling dummies for one spring, and then tell them to find a new school 3 months later.

If true, he is going to recruit about as well as Tom Herman did at the end of his run at Texas.  Players recruit players.

I wonder if he checked the box for open to communication or not. (which makes me laugh. If you check the no communication box, it is basically admitting to tampering. not that the NCAA cares)

Not necessarily.  I you don't check it and you are a good player, you are going to be bombarded with calls from every school.  Better to check the box and then reach out to the schools you are actually interested in, correct?

But also lol at NCAA and tampering.

@closetojumping On your post above on them being #2 in the portal, doesnt somebody else other than 247 do a better job like ESPN or On3?  Seems like you get a BIG boost in rankings (see Colorado) for huge numbers coming in but no 'penalty' for going out.

It is On3.  They take into account both additions and subtractions, whereas the #2 ranking is because they added so many guys.

A&M is #44 with an index score of 0, meaning they broke even.

Texas is #9 with a score of +30, because even though we lost 15, the 8 we brought it were much better.

We are most definitely in the realm of if the team executes they should not drop a single game except against top ranked opponents who are evenly matched. Georgia next season comes to mind.

it’s really wild how this thread is so much different than years past. The jokes about surly not knowing how to act are so true. Everyone here knows better than to sunshine pump too hard but damn is it hard to talk much shit about this roster right now.

There is a part of me that is expecting to be disappointed at the end of next season with the DBs being more athletic, but just never really reaching their potential due to lackluster coaching.  I will throw that out there if anyone wants some rain to counter the sunshine.

Why impossible? Dad has plenty of money to fund Arch's "just being a college student" and when he finally declares open season for NIL he will be flooded with offers, some of them national brands like Caleb Williams and Dr Pepper.
If someone is giving him NIL money at the moment, what are they getting in return? It would be kind of a hard thing to hide I think...and quite pointless.

Uhh, him playing football at the University of Texas this fall?

  7. So basically now instead of saying to recruits player X received $100k last year, and we view you similarly *wink wink*, they can just say we are willing to offer you $100k?  Doesn't seem like a huge deal.

Would this also prevent the NCAA from banning NIL contracts that tie the athlete to a specific school?  That actually seems like a NCAA rule that was thought up as a way to somehow limit inducement, but ends up benefiting the players by preventing them from signing away their freedom to transfer without penalty.

  9. I just started Act 3 yesterday.  Combat did get easier once around level 3 or so as characters could get special abilities and better gear.  I mostly stick to the Shadowheart/Lae'zel/Karlach team, because my character is mainly ranged, so every need is filled.  There are more characters that can be recruited Act 2.

No thanks. Wadlington and at this point, his shtick, irritates as many people as those who enjoy it, like me. I don't really enjoy being able to taste someone's narcissm and self-importance through a keyboard. And as others said, he's not great in video either. It's almost like when he sometimes has to speak off the cuff and not have hours and days to carefuly curate their quips and comparisons the quality suffers.

As others said, Kelson is an IT loyalist.

I agree that is how he comes across, but I guess it doesn't bother me as much.  When I first started getting into Texas message boards about 10 years ago I initially thought he posted on Shaggy as Closetojumping.  I don't think he should do livesteams, but I always enjoyed the Saturday morning conversation he would do 1 on 1 with Bobby.

  12. It is possible to think the NCAA is filled with turds, and also be confident that Tenn violated what little rules there are?  That is how I feel when I read these headlines.  I mean fuck the NCAA, but also fuck people who still can't do shit the right way when it is easy to legally pay players.

Bobby Burton mentioned a stud CB that may go top 10 in 1st Rd NFL draft when eligible...

The context was that someone like Jabbar Muhammed, while being a really good player, was viewed as a luxury by the Texas staff and not someone you do anything to get, whereas Will Johnson was the top CB in the nation and a top 10 pick next year.  Of course we would be interested in him, along with everyone else.
