  1. Apparently they offered Xander 4/$90mil. Not a complete lowball, but still well below market value, especially for a “SS” in today’s game.

He’s guaranteed to walk after this year (Boras client, after all), but hopefully he has one more good contract year under his belt.

  2. Let the doubters doubt again. Last year was surprisingly decent… let’s see what’s in STORY again this season.

Still have Xander, even though he’s a below-average fielder at SS. JDM is still with the team as well, even if he’s declining fast.

Raffy Devers was offered an extension, but apparently he and the team are far apart on valuation.

Chris Sale is hurt. Again. 60-Day IL to start the year. Pitching will obviously be another huge question mark. Nate, Pivetta, Tanner Houck, Michael Wacha, and Rich Hill isn’t exactly an ideal rotation, but Garrett Whitlock being an anchor in the bullpen shows some promise.

But hey, they finally did something in the off-season. Trevor Story is good. Hopefully he can hit at Fenway like he did at Coors. (Don’t mind his road numbers…)

Opening Day vs the fucking Yanks is already postponed, the Jays are a popular pick to win the AL pennant, and the Rays are always gonna be the Rays. But at least they play the Orioles 19 times this year… Go Sox.

  3. On 2/19/2022 at 11:26 AM, Dutch said:

Wolves on Thursday; @dbecks are the club flying you over for the makeup match? The postmatch show mentioned our games in hand are Liverpool (likely L), Chelsea (D possible) and Sh*t (winnable). Really need a W on Thursday.

No... couldn't make it work this time around.  (Got refunded for the tickets, FWIW.)  I'm in education, so that winter break fixture would've been ideal -- not so much on a Thursday in February.

Maybe it was for the best?  Hope not... get a fackin' equalizer here.

  4. what's bullshit is Bonds and Clements didn't get in in their first year unanimous and David known juicer Ortiz who doesn't have half the resume Bonds, Clemens do is in on the FIRST ballot.

Again, the two statements do not preclude each other.

It’s important to get the best players in history - which Clemens and Bonds surely are among - elected, but I can still be happy for Ortiz, whether it was the first or tenth ballot. That’s just me.

But if this pisses you off so much, maybe direct some of that anger at the writers who are hypocrites (the many who voted for Ortiz and not the other two), rather than hating on the player who got in. Just a thought.

  5. What a fucking joke that Ortiz got in

I agree that Bonds and Clemens should be in as well, but MLB said that the alleged test in the NYT story was “inconclusive,” as it didn’t differentiate between illegal and legal over-the-counter vitamins and supplements.

Ortiz went on to rake for another seven seasons after ‘09. That’s gotta count for something.

It’s bullshit that Bonds and Clemens didn’t get in after 10 attempts. I’m also happy that Ortiz got in on the first ballot. The two statements are not mutually exclusive.

  6. Dude, that totally sucks. I’m sorry. Hopefully you can make the rematch. Will Arsenal America put you at the top of the list for your next request because your match was canceled?

I wrote a nicely-worded email to see my options. The $ (or £) doesn’t matter, I just want the tickets to find a home if I/we aren’t able to attend.
