So Miami is fucked right now. Near riots by spring breakers, drugging and raping chicks, rough shit going on at established beach restaurants. It’s not a case of the olds, this spring break has an edge similar to Woodstock II. Curfews in effect the rest of the week and footage of police breaking up crowds with pepper paintballs.

None of this looks like a "riot." I guess a few people walked on a car. Crowd and riot don't mean the same thing.

also... it's baseball... the best team is gonna lose a few.

Did you quote the wrong comment?

If not, of course the best team is going to lose. My earlier comment was that OU's path to the postseason is murky. Until today, they've had a bad non-conference resume. Their weekend rotation looks rough. I still think they'll need a relatively strong conference record to make the post season but the win over Arkansas helps considerably.

    There’s their signature win

Yeah, that win today will certainly help. They still have a lot of work to do to figure out their weekend rotation. The lefty they threw today looked good. I don't think he touched 90 but he had good command and the pig hitters were off balance most of the game.

  4. Few random thoughts.

    • Really excited about Melendez and Ardoin.
    • Cautious optimism about Faltine and Kennedy.
    • Like Cam Williams. Think he's going to be steady and solid.
    • Sort of tired of Austin Todd and Zach Zubia. I get that last season was shortened but it feels like they've been here forever. They're good but I don't see them improving on their typical performance much this season (hope I'm wrong).
    • Staff looked decent I thought. Silver lining is we got to see a handful of guys throw.
    • As someone else mentioned, how do you have announcers at baseball games in Texas in 2021 that have never seen a Hispanic / Spanish last name? Every time they said Quintan-ELLUH, I wondered, where do these guys watch and call baseball games?

  5. Really glad it looks like this tourny is going to happen. I hate the "just cancel" attitude espoused by a few on this site. If guys couldn't get in normal prep, put them on a pitch count. Sure, it might be a competitive disadvantage but that's part of sports. Canceling games every time there's adversity is contrary to the spirit of competition.

I'm really looking forward to watching Madden pitch tomorrow. He's got the tools to be special this year.

(I would support canceling if we couldn't physically get the team to the game safely, but it doesn't look like that's an issue)

  6. Both parties can negotiate for whatever they want guaranteed. Neither party can terminate the contract without a clause permitting termination. Both sides have to sign agreeing to all the provisions, including the provisions for termination. One player may want "guaranteed" money and no incentives. Another player may want less "guaranteed" money and more incentives.

I don't care if the NFL ends up implementing a rule that all money must be "guaranteed." But all that does is add rigidity to the contracting process. Maybe it'd be better for the players; I don't know.

That he is talking about minimum wage workers, not managers or salaried workers.  This is a good doc that came out on PBS a while back. If you have the time, this isn't a bad documentary.

Yeah, I was referencing Amazon's lowest paid workers. y The "minimum wage" thing was a passing comment. My point was pretty straightforward and obviously the heart of the point was that people are fucking pissing in bottles because they aren't allowed breaks. Dude just latched on to the minimum wage thing because he's on the wrong side of a stupid argument but doesn't want to admit it. My wife does the same thing so it's nothing I'm not used to.

You two can keep digging this hole. It's stupid. He didn't mean lowest paid employee at Amazon or hourly wage employee of any amount. That's ridiculous. Everybody interprets minimum wage employee as legal minimum wage.

"Hi my name is Bob, I'm a minimum wage employee at Silver Lake Capital."

"What? Silver Lake Capital pays you the legal minimum wage?"

"No, asshole. I make $7,000 per hour. By 'minimum wage,' I obviously meant that I'm paid per hour."

What is not accurate? He said minimum wage workers are not provided the time to have bathroom breaks and finish their fulfillment demands. Nothing was said about the amount of their wages.

What does "minimum wage warehouse employee," which was his actual quote, mean to you if it has nothing to do with the amount of their wages? I interpreted "minimum wage" to mean the legal minimum wage.

I didn't dispute (or affirm for that matter) the bathroom shit. I don't know much about it. I'll try to read the articles folks have posted.

(I try not to respond to emotional diatribes but yours had a semblance of substance so here I am)

Know how I know that you've never known anybody who worked in an Amazon warehouse, or who was an entry level developer there?

I know a handful of Amazon employees but my anecdotes are just that.

The developers can get jobs anywhere. If they don't want the hours and stresses at Amazon, there are numerous companies that will hire them. They might be paid less, however.

I'm not as sure about the warehouse workers. But I imagine if they hated it, they'd quit and work at a comparable place (Walmart, UPS, etc.). Maybe they don't have that option during Covid, however, which is lamentable. Pre-Covid, unemployment was at record lows and job postings were at record highs.

Anyway, how do you feel about the article I posted? You ok with employees being forced to urinate in cups and bottles or risk being fired? You're okay with him literally stealing his employee's wages? Just a good old magnanimous billionaire?

Shockingly, you still haven't acknowledged any error. Just say you made a mistake and move on. I

I'm happy to read the article and respond - if I have anything to respond to (I'll read later tonight). Without reading, I think bathroom breaks should be allowed.

You're right the minimum wage thing was the important part of my post, not that Amazon has reduced the employer employee relationship down to wage slavery to the point where their employees are literally not allowed to take bathroom breaks.

I don't know what the important part was. You made a few claims. At least one of them was false. When confronted, rather than acknowledge any error, you discarded your false claim as unimportant.

I’m not sure the politicians want to break up the company that offers the best prices, selection and delivery to 75% of its constituents.

I don't get all the animosity towards Bezos in this thread. He's created one of the most iconic companies in the world that has contributed trillions towards global GDP, wealth, and development. I hope he's able to advance space exploration, carbon reduction, or whatever else he's interested in to even a thousandth of his success with Amazon.

The FTC enforcement action is not good. I doubt Bezos was personally involved in the tip structure for flex delivery drivers. If you're operating one of the biggest companies in the world, you're going to have occasional slip-ups, lawsuits, government entanglements, etc. That's part and parcel of operating a multinational.

If you're randomly picking #s, it really shouldn't matter which ones Yotta puts in the pool, and which ones are assigned to you individually. Now obviously if 1 of the pool tickets win the 10m, you will always wonder why you had to split that with us as opposed to winning the whole amount for yourself.

However if you have chosen #s to be used every week, I don't know if they assign that ticket out for your own use.

Yeah, I realize it doesn't matter as I randomly pick every week (except for my one lucky number ticket), but I thought the app would give users the ability to choose which tix to contribute and which tix to keep personal.
