Of course it's predictable that Trump would get fooled again.  He doesn't bother to read about Clinton's or Bush's experience.  And even if he did, he wouldn't understand it.  And even if he did understand it, it would only be evidence that they were idiots, and not the greatest negotiators ever.  So Trump stumble-fucks his way into yet another repetition of the same-old North Korea scenario.

    ...

Trump is a walking, breathing Dunning-Kruger effect.

  2. NK had little chance of giving up their nukes anyway, but pulling out of the Iran deal, before the summit, sent the message that the US could not be trusted to honor it's nuclear agreements.  I feel for the SK president Moon Jae-in. He is a legitimately good guy and has led an interesting life.  It must be hard being stuck working with Trump and Kim on a peace agreement. He must feel like Sisyphus.

    From his wiki:

    Quote

Born in Geoje, South Korea during the last year of the Korean War, Moon Jae-in was the second child and oldest son among five children of father Moon Yong-hyung and mother Kang Han-ok. His parents were refugees from South Hamgyeong Province, North Korea who fled their native city of Hungnam during the Hungnam evacuation.[7]

His family eventually settled in Busan. Since his father did not want to become a government employee, as he had been in North Korea, his father started a business selling socks which only left his family in great debt. His mother became the breadwinner by selling clothes received from relief organisations and delivering briquettes. Moon's family became attached to the Catholic church when his mother went to the local cathedral to receive whole milk powder. Moon once said in an interview that he doesn't know how to ride a bike since his family was desperately poor to afford a bike or monthly school tuition.

Moon entered Kyungnam High School at the top of his class.[7][8] He was accepted to study law at Kyunghee University where he met his future wife, Kim Jung-sook, with full scholarships.[9] He was arrested, convicted, and imprisoned and expelled from the university after he organized a student protest against the Yushin Constitution.[7][10][11] Later, he was conscripted into the military and assigned to the South Korean special forces, where he participated in "Operation Paul Bunyan" during the Axe murder incident in Panmunjom.[12][13] He was suggested to build his career in the military due to his outstanding works which was awarded by then-president Chun.

After his discharge, the death of his father influenced him to decide to pass the Bar Exam. He went into Daeheungsa, the Buddhist temple, to study the exam and passed its first of two rounds in 1979. In 1980 he returned to school to complete his remaining year of studies. In 1980 he passed the second round and was admitted to the Judicial Research and Training Institute. He graduated second in his class but was not admitted to become a judge or government prosecutor due to his history of activism against the Yushin dictatorship under Park Chung-hee's rule as a student.[14] Moon chose to become a private lawyer instead.

I tackled the fuck out of Barry Sanders as a skinny 5'10 150 lb free safety my freshman year.

Actually in reality, he caught a pass out of the slot and didn't even see me and ran me over and tripped in the process.

but I tripped the fuck out of him.

We must be from the same area and about the same age. I was a freshman (not on varsity) the year my HS played Barry Sanders in the districts, his senior year, after he moved to running back. We had an all-state player at DB who we thought was fast (ended up going to WSU as a WR a year or two before they dropped the FB program).  Barry went the distance and just smoked our all state player. Guy told me a couple years later he felt like he was running in water chasing after him.

My dad played versus John Riggins the one year he played football. Would have been 1A (smallest 11 man) or even 8 man. He got his clocked cleaned trying to tackle Riggins.  Didn't play the rest of the game. Probably had a concussion.  My dad sad everyone from the area thought John's older brother was a better football player, but his brother gave up college to go home and farm. Guess his older brother's heart was in farming, not football.

Best guy I played with was Jim Hanna. Was a 4 year starter in baseball, basketball and football. All-state in at least 2 (probably all 3) of them. Was a 6'5" man in 8th grade. Was offered by OU among other football offers. Went to an open Royals tryout. Hit a homer in the stadium when the fences were way back and it was very hard to go yard in. The Royals offered him a minor league contract after the tryout. Declined it and ended up going to Kansas to play baseball. But he had a weakness. He was already having knee surgery in middle school. Had to give up baseball at KU. His knees just could not take the sports grind any longer. Pretty sure he could have been a NFL TE if he had good knees.

Trump quietly proposes slashing billions from children’s health care

    https://thinkprogress.org/trump-quietly-proposes-slashing-billions-from-childrens-health-care-86300b9989c6/

Because ...we need to figure out a way to fuck over those poor sick kids

This is Trump's response to a deficit he exploded with massive corporate tax cuts.

The Trump administration is set to ask Congress to claw back $15 billion in federal spending. If passed, it would be the largest “rescission” package passed in American history.

Nearly half of the cuts — roughly $7 billion — would come from the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), a program many low-income families depend on for coverage. The White House claims the cuts will not have an impact on the program, which currently has an enrollment of about 9 million.

The administration, however, doesn’t appear to believe their own talking point. Notably absent from White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ explainer on the rescission package is any mention of the CHIP cuts.

Once the White House requests the cuts, Congress will have 45 days to act before it expires. During that time, the funding is automatically frozen. The package only requires a simple majority to pass..

Nothing new for Trump.  He is all about himself.  Trump cut off his dead brother's, very sick grandchild's health care, because his nephew disputed his father's will.  If he would do that to his own blood kin, he would not give two shits about some random poor kids.

    Quote

The megabuilder and his siblings Robert and Maryanne terminated their nephew's family medical coverage a week after he challenged the will of their father, Fred Trump.   "This was so shocking, so disappointing and so vindictive," said niece Lisa Trump, whose son, William, was born 18 months ago at Mount Sinai Medical Center with a rare neurological disorder that produces violent seizures, brain damage and medical bills topping $300,000.   The Trump family feud has come to light in recent days as the dispute over Fred Trump's estate is being played out in Queens Surrogate Court. The patriarch left between $100 million and $300 million, according to different family estimates.   A separate case over the denial of medical coverage that Fred Trump freely provided to his family for decades was filed in Nassau Supreme Court.   Both lawsuits were filed by Fred Trump 3rd and Mary Trump, the children of Donald's late brother, Fred Jr.   They offer a rare window into one of New York's most prominent families, a world where alliances and rivalries are magnified by power, money and the tough-nosed tactics of Donald Trump.   "When [Fred 3rd] sued us, we said, 'Why should we give him medical coverage?

'" Donald said in an interview with the Daily News last week.   Asked whether he thought cutting their coverage could appear cold-hearted, given the baby's medical condition, Donald made no apologies.   "I can't help that," he said. "It's cold when someone sues my father. Had he come to see me, things could very possibly have been much different for them.

  5. The Baty stuff actually came out in the fall. So ridiculous.

    Quote

“Average tenure was four years. Four years!” Baty said. “At what point do we put our stake in the ground as a fan base, as a donor base, as an administration, as campus administrators, do we put our foot in the ground and say no more?”

Maybe when we have a coach capable of having a winning season from time to time and can at least flirt with a .500 winning percentage each season. Beaty and his sub .100 winning percentage is not the time to cry for stability. Last season should have seen progress,  but instead we regressed.  It is also hilarious they bring up letting coaches go so fast when Zenger is the one who fired the last 2 coaches after 2 and 2.5 seasons. Sadly, both were better coaches than Beaty. Zenger needs to be gone, not because he is a KSU grad (nobody is tanking their career for school pride), but because he is immensely incompetent and can't be allowed a third FB coach hire.

I am pretty sure we go defeated this year for the 2nd time in four years.

The swastki originally symbolized peace or something like that IIRC

It wasn’t until Hitler came along and gave it the meaning it has today.

The swastki will probably never get that benign symbolism back.

I still see the original symbol around NE Asia frequently. It means good luck and hope I believe. The only problems come from western foreigners who think it is the Nazi symbol, which is a reverse of the original that they see here in Asia.  The original is on the right.

I didnt celebrate that North Korea is denuclearized, I am celebrating an end to a war and renewed diplomacy between North and South Korea. I definitely think it is something to celebrate. Im sorry you dont see it that way, the Koreans sure do.

There as always been diplomacy between them. The DMZ is where they do it. They have a building there specifically for that purpose. The stance of the diplomacy between them would be what changes.

Celebrating the official end of the conflict is great, if it happens. The South Koreans I work with were all excited yesterday when the meetings began for that reason. For the South Koreans it would be like their crazy, sometimes violent brother finally going on meds. They can sleep a little easier at night.

    These.

The entire reason these meetings are happening is because the DPRK finally feels secure enough to meet with outside powers on something of an equal footing.  And the reason they feel that way is because they have functioning and deliverable nukes.  A cornered dog thinks only of how to bite you.  Once he's out of the corner, you can live in peace.  But that dog is not going back to its corner, ever.  And it ain't giving up its teeth.

    My prediction:

    - official state of war ends.

    - DPRK is acknowledged as a nation by South Korea and perhaps others.

    - DPRK keeps its nukes.

    - DPRK uses its new status as "not your enemy" to push and push for the US to leave the Korean peninsula.

    - eventually, they succeed.

    - The winner?  CHINA.

And, in fairness to Trump, based on the DPRK's dedication to developing its nuclear program that preceded him, and continued under him, this was going to be the outcome all along.  He couldn't have stopped it -- not without total war.

China would be a winner except that NK keeping it's nukes will lead to Japan and South Korea developing their own. Some politicians in both countries are already calling for developing their own. China won't want that. If the USA staying in SK/Japan keeps SK and Japan from developing nukes China will live with the USA in SK and Japan.

If we were to pull out of S Korea, I believe the Norks would invade the very next day.

This is wrong. I used to believe this too, before I lived in South Korea. I have talked to U.S. soldiers in SK about this issue. They told me the US remained here to keep South Korea from invading/bombing the North when they provoke the South, which NK is fond of doing from time to time. See here and here as examples. Before they had nukes, North Korea basically admitted that if a war occurred they would do as much artillery damage to Seoul as they could since that is basically all they could do in a conventional conflict. With nukes the best they could do would be mutually assured destruction.

North Korea has little fuel and outdated military equipment. They have troubles even meeting the basic needs of their citizens. They have pretty much zero surpluses of anything.  They have a large army, put how well did that serve Iraq (5th largest army in the world at the time) when they faced a modernized army and Iraq had enough fuel for their vehicles.  South Korea has a modern military. They are one of the 10 biggest military spenders in the world. They can defend themselves. If we leave they will quickly develop their own nukes. Followed by Japan doing so as well.

We remain to try to keep things on an even keel, or at least we did before Trump. NK currently would get crushed in a conventional war with South Korea. It is not 1950 where the North had all the industry. Nukes are a way to ensure NK's survival long-term, as even though they would lose any conflict, they could cause large scale damage to many countries which the US and it's allies would want to avoid (if NK can get their rockets to work correctly). NK won't give them up easily.  The unsaid reason we want NK to drop their program is to keep Asia from a nuclear arms race. If they don't disarm, South Korea and Japan will quickly develop their own. Politicians in both countries are starting to call for their development. This is why China would prefer NK disarm as well. If they don't, China will gain two more countries with nukes on their doorstep.

    Trump fathered a kid supposedly.

    Quote

President Donald Trump had a relationship with a former housekeeper and fathered a child with her, a former Trump World Tower doorman claimed in a statement released Thursday afternoon.

The doorman, Dino Sajudin, spoke out after reports published Thursday morning detailed his agreement with American Media Inc., the publisher of The National Enquirer that included a $30,000 payment for the exclusive rights to the story.

“Today I awoke to learn that a confidential agreement that I had with AMI (The National Inquirer) with regard to a story about President Trump was leaked to the press,” Sajudin statement’s to CNN read. "I can confirm that while working at Trump World Tower I was instructed not to criticize President Trump’s former housekeeper due to a prior relationship she had with President Trump which produced a child.”
