I’m kind of in a holding pattern. I’ve got my appointments at MD Anderson, but they aren’t until July. They don’t seem too concerned about mine spreading or they would have moved me up. I have a meeting with a surgeon and an oncologist to discuss treatment paths. Until then, there isn’t too much to say. Every once in a while it does hit me, but it all still seems surreal. I’m sure it will become more real once July rolls around.

If you've seen some of my other posts, you know that I think MD Anderson is the best in the world. Try to not rush it. Take more days off than you may think you will need. Take a "leisurely" walk around the place. Get familiar so you don't add the anxiety of having to find an office at the last minute. IOW make a dry run if possible. Take someone with you to act as a secretary or scribe. You will get hit with much more information than you will be able to remember without someone being with you to take notes. If your initial consultation says, "Get an x-ray tomorrow", go at that moment and see where the x-ray department is. It's a big place. Become at least somewhat familiar. Take a deep breath. There is plenty of art work and other stuff to see which is not sickness related. See the sights. Let some of the tension come out of your shoulders. You are at the right place.

  2. NB, don't sell that 12 string. At some point in your life you will want what it does. Even my nice Martin is a bear to play. The neck is big. Push down the low string of the pair and you still have to push harder to sound the high string of the pair, and you have to do that without pushing so hard that you pull it out of pitch. It is a different animal. I look at as "exercise". My hands are stronger and better on a 6 string because of the strength the 12 string has "forced" me to have. I played with a pick all my life, I still have a drawer full of blue Wabash, but I have started using my bare fingers. Not really finger picking, but sort of using my fingers the same as I would a pick...sort of...I'm still developing my "style". Anyhow, the fleshy part of your finger may calm some of the "noise" as you call it. Let me be redundant...do not sell that Martin. Some day you will want to hear that "Chorus of Angels".

  3. Looking at the Jamie Foxx thread over there. We won't know for sure until if/when they release an autopsy. I wouldn't be surprised if blood pressure is a major culprit. Some folks whistle past the graveyard when it comes to hypertension. Go to the doctor. Take the damn pill. Don't forget, you're not a 6 year old leaving his lunch money on the table. Take the pill. Treat your damn blood pressure. If the pill gives you boner problems, try a different one. There are hundreds of options. Treat your damn blood pressure.

  4. Prostate Cancer is relatively common in men, 13%, and very slow growing. My dad used to say, "We've all got it. It's just a matter of whether or not we live long enough for it to show itself."

I was diagnosed with Polymyalgia Rheumatica yesterday. I have been stiff and sore for 3 weeks but I didn't go to the doc because I knew I had my usual diabetes checkup coming up. That was a mistake on my part. When our pharmacy opens I will get started with Prednisone pills.

    https://www.niams.nih.gov/health-topics/polymyalgia-rheumatica-giant-cell-arteritis

Polymyalgia rheumatica and giant cell arteritis are closely linked inflammatory disorders that almost always occur in people older than age 50. Polymyalgia rheumatica causes muscle pain and stiffness in the shoulders, upper arms, hip area, and sometimes the neck. The ache and stiffness are usually worse in the morning or when you have not been moving for a while. They can sometimes be very debilitating and tend to improve with activity.

People with polymyalgia rheumatica sometimes have another disorder called giant cell arteritis, which is associated with inflammation of arteries, especially those located on each side of the head, scalp, and the aorta (the large artery that carries blood from the heart) and its main branches. Headaches, scalp tenderness, and jaw pain are common features of giant cell arteritis. If the blood vessels that nourish the eyes are affected, there may be visual problems such as fleeting or permanent vision loss or double vision. It is important to seek treatment right away if you have visual symptoms, because if left untreated they may potentially lead to permanent blindness. Giant cell arteritis is also known as temporal arteritis and Horton disease.

Both disorders generally respond well to treatment, although it is common for symptoms to recur after decreasing or stopping therapy.

Additionally, my PSA number spiked and I now have an appointment with a specialist to discuss a prostate biopsy.

Tell me all of your biopsy horror stories, please.

You really want Prostate biopsy horror stories? Really?? OK...so I had 3 before they finally found the Big C. Biopsy is bad but not as bad as you're fearing. For me it was the trocar or whatever they call the instrument that introduces the needle gun that was the most painful part. Must not be much nerve sensitivity in the Prostate cause that part was minimal, but that rod up my ass was not good. Each time I was just about to tell him to abort the procedure when the last needle was shot. Is that what you were wanting? I could talk about the bleeding if you want more. Then I can talk about a catheter hanging out of your dick for two weeks after the surgery. Fucking catheter was my biggest fear, but like the biopsy it wasn't as bad as anticipated. Plus you don't have to get up and pee all the time so there's that. But actually, the worst part was in the hospital trying to get my bowels moving since that's the requirement to go home. Trying to take a shit with a catheter hanging out of your dick and an IV stuck in your hand, and trying to not dip your hospital gown in the toilet, that right there was probably the worst part. Oh, and trying to wipe your ass with IV and catheter and flowing hospital gown. Yeah. Fuck that.

I'm a Rick Steves fan and we have 2 of his travel backpacks. Love them.

I'm a Rick Steves fan, too. I have this back pack and about a dozen of  his packing cubes. In an effort to force myself to "pack light" I used the back pack as my carry on last week. Putting it in the overhead was a hassle. It was like trying to lift a plastic bag full of water. No stability or shape. Love the packing cubes, though.

Email today says tracking number created.

Came last week, signature required, which I suppose is understandable, but I'm never home when the mail is delivered, so it requires a trip to the post office...which makes me cranky.

Looks exactly like the photo on the web page, which is pretty spare. If the wife turns her nose up at birthday time I'll give her some other trinket with a fraction of the gold. At least I'll have another oz.  I'll get out my gram scale at some point and post again.

Lot of truth here, we get lemons with every brand and because models evolve so quickly its hard to product research with any consistency. By the time the gremlins show up they've already modified the appliance and you are at year two with a piece of shit.

Make sure whomever is supplying the appliances has a great install team especially if you are doing inset or cabinet doors on the appliances. I won't use Fergusons in Austin for this. It's a painful disaster

    Generally

Sucks: LG everything, Samsung fridges, anything Jenn Aire, I don't really fuck with lower end. GE Cafe is all over the place on quality and reliability.

    Decent: Kitchenaid.

Usually Awesome: Bosch/ Thermador dish washers. The clean incredibly well and dry better if you open after cycle or have one that opens on its own- which most Miele do, and clean well. Most Miele have been reliable but a few problem models. Sub Zero is usually incredibly reliable. I just serviced a 48" that finally needed a compressor- I installed it in 2004. Bluestar has great customer service and I've had no issues with them so far.

If not Ferguson, who do you recommend for installs?

I'll be the guinea pig on the bullion bracelet. Probably going to be 3-4 weeks before it gets here. If the wife doesn't like the dull color, I'll just throw it in the drawer with the old wedding rings, broken gold glasses frames and pulled crowns.

So far, it's taken them 33 days to cash my check. The waiting continues.
